Having too much chlorine in your pool water can be dangerous☠️ ☠️☠️

Exposure to high levels of chlorine can cause lung irritation, skin and eye damage, and provoke asthma. Not only is it bad for your health, but it can be bad for your pool due to the increase in chlorine.

High chlorine levels decrease the pH of your pool’s water, making it more acidic. The more acidic the water, the higher the likelihood of corrosion. This corrosion can affect metal piping, equipment, and the surface of your pool (tiles, liners, concrete, etc.). It can also damage pool accessories and anything else that goes into your swimming pool.

While many people think they can smell or “feel” when their pool has too much chlorine, the only way to know if you have high levels of chlorine is by running a test🤩🧪 We are open today if you need your water tested!! Here is a salt cell being forced out of its case as it’s too dirty!! In this case it’s not just dirty but it has been overloaded by copper algaecide in such a way that the wires have burned out. Dead cell! ☠️

Cracked skimmer box from being overloaded with debris=green pool 💚😬The blocked skimmer basket stopped flow so the chlorinator couldn’t keep up and the pool started to go green!😢 Remeber to regularly clear your skimmer box as a green pool is nobody’s friend and can be a costly exercise to return to its former glory!☀️

If you own a pool just keep an eye on your water levels as evaporation could prove to be a problem if left unattended. Top up your pool and regularly check your equipment!

Remember!🥸 It’s super important to regularly empty your skimmer box!😱
Although we can definitely take care of it at your maintenance appointments, often it needs some extra attention in between our visits🧐
Clearing the skimmer box at least once per week is generally a good guide to follow🥰Unless you have messy shrubbery or trees nearby then it might pay to check the skimmer box more regularly🌳
After a storm or heavy rain it’s also reccommended that you remove all the excess debris that’s probably stuck in there...

The more often you empty out the debris caught by the basket, the better your pump filtration will be!!🤩👍🏼

Tips for maintaining your pool after heavy rain💙☔️

When heavy rain and strong winds hit, your pool needs extra care to ensure it’s safe and healthy🧡

Generally after heavy rainfall, a pool will require flocs, phosphate removers and adjuster chemicals, but always start with the basics after bad weather strikes and check these things first:

🌧 Rain heavily dilutes chemicals, especially chlorine and salt. Add extra chlorine, even if you have a salt system, to prevent the levels dropping too low and minimise the time for algae to bloom.

💡 Check that none of your electrical equipment (pump, chlorinator) have been damaged by the weather and that no puddles have formed around them. If a safety issue has been presented, contact a professional right away.

👁 If you are aware of heavy winds, make sure all equipment and accessories are secure so that nothing can be damaged by the wind or transported by it
