A new batch of cake toppers ready to go! It’s always fun to play with new colour combos.
I haven’t done much crafting this year, and I forgot how therapeutic it is to sit down and be creative. Sometimes it’s good to take a break if doing what you love starts to lose the enjoyment you get out of it!

Who’s enjoying the warmer weather??
Anyone else find their mood improves when the sun is out and it’s a beautiful day? I know I do!!
HOT TIP! 🪡
When it comes time to turn your sewing right side out, especially with narrow tubes, find something with a soft point (like a paintbrush) to use to poke the corners out.
Also be careful when working with delicate fabrics not to push too hard on the paintbrush or it will poke a hole through the fabric!

Recently I’ve had quite a lot of requests for bow headbands for babies….and I’m happy to announce that they will be available on my website in the next couple of weeks!

So I decided to compare using gladwrap vs foil to create my marbled cake toppers. I much prefer the foil method for a couple of reasons…
I found the gladwrap was hard to separate after folding in half to mix the paint.
The paint didn’t mix very nicely - it was more blended than I like it to be. Maybe there’s a trick to it I don’t know about yet!!

I hand stitch the center of my bows to prevent little hands from untying them.
I’ve seen other crafters use glue to secure their bows, but although it takes a little longer, I prefer this method.

Add a little something extra to your Christmas tree with these super cute ornaments.
👉🏼 3 helpful cricut project tips 👈🏼
1. Keep your design open on design space until you have completed your project in case you need to redo part of it
2. If using transfer tape with grid lines on it, try to line it up with any font so it’s straight. This makes it easier to tell if straight when applying to acrylic.
3. Try not to touch the surface of the acrylic after removing the protective backing so you don’t have to clean off fingerprints when you’re done, especially with mirrored acrylic.

🌙 Fabric from Spotlight
Here’s a few helpful hints!
🌙 Using high quality vinyl when working with thin lines or font makes it easier to work with. I use the cricut brand for projects like this.
🌙Baking paper stuck between the transfer tape and the acrylic makes it easier to line up the design without it sticking.
🌙 I find a little masking tape to stick down the acrylic to your work surface prevents it moving while trying to transfer the vinyl. I know a lot of crafters use their cricut mat to do this instead of masking tape, but use whatever works for you!

So I’ve been making these cake toppers for a little while now, and what you don’t see in the reels is the many I’ve redone over and over again!
Each one I make is an opportunity to improve my technique.
Here’s a few tips I’ve learnt through trial and error and from watching other crafters…
🌙 Be generous with the amount of paint you’re using. A thick layer prevents the paint looking ‘streaky’ or patchy and a little transparent when dried
🌙 Allow the paint to dry for at least 24hours before packaging
🌙 Don’t overthink the outcome too much. What might not seem perfect to you will be perfect to someone else.
🌙 Use a good quality thick vinyl when working with thin fonts. I find it cuts and weeds better than thinner vinyls.
