Gourownway
Our love of good food, wine, beer & the outdoors taking us on an amazing adventure around Australia. Nikia and Aaron here!!
Thankyou for taking a look at our page. We took the plunge to travel fulltime in October 2022 and are planning to be on the road for the next couple of years around this great country of Australia!!!
What better way to prepare for the 2024 adventures than treat ourselves to a wellness float😊🙏
We figure there’s a lot of hikes ahead of us and more amazing experiences to be had, it’s time to reset for a fabulous 2024!
Locking yourself in these float vessels is an experience like no other, totally takes you (and just you!) into the best relaxation space 😎🙏
Think my mind drifted off to Cape Tribulation (rainforest, fresh water, nature), reconnecting some experiences already had 🙏
We both have itchy feet to get moving again after having spent a few weeks catching up with family and pumped for what’s ahead 😃
Bring on the south adventures of WA!!
After 15 months on the road and multiple car convos I FINALLY convinced Aaron for a proper coffee machine! 😍
Yes, it’s all about the space in the caravan that it came down too, and there were some sacrificial other devices that had to leave, but oh my!!
Game changer right here!!! Woohoo 🥳 ☕️
2024 brings morning coffee to a whole new level 🙏💜
Well Happy Nears again!!!
After a very quiet but amazing night with Tegan and Dylan, we’ve had a busy morning at the gym followed up by an Italian lunch and a cheeky beer at Little Creatures in Fremantle….have to say it’s amazing to wake up with a clear head on New Years Day lol.
Here’s to 2024!!!
#2024
Happy New Year!!!!
OMG what a year we have had.
So many bucket list items ticked off.
So many amazing places we’ve visited….and probably the best part…we’ve met so many amazing people driving around this sensational country of ours.
To our beautiful families, thank you for catching up with us as we’ve driven through or flown in, we can’t wait to see more of you in the New Year.
Bring on 2024!!
We can’t wait to see what it brings us.
Merry Christmas to our amazing Family and beautiful friends 🎄
We hope Santa is good to you, and you finish 2023 off with great memories and embrace your time with loved ones ❤️🙏😀
We set out at the start of our trip to reach 4 most Extreme points of Mainland Oz (North, South, East and West) in 12 months.….we missed by 2 months to achieve this….but we did do an extra couple, the extreme south of Tassie and Lamberts Center(the geographical center of Oz)
Today we finished what we set out to do with an amazing trip out to Steep Point!!! What a beautiful place and peninsula!!! (We’ll post some pics of this soon)
So here they are in date order:
Eastern: Byron Bay 11/10/22 (leisurely Latee stroll)
Northern: Cape York 10/11/22 (awesome adventure)
Southern: South Point, Wilson’s Prom 24/1/23 (Shoot me now, 32 klm hike in a day)
Southern(Tassie): South Cape, Cockle Creek 6/3/23 (scenic and 4 seasons in a day!! Tassie through and through)
Lamberts Center: 18/5/23 (most amazing camp!!!)
Western: Steep Point 13/12/23 (long and very unexpectedly beautiful drive)
All I can say is that after 40 odd thousand klms and seeing these amazing places and the places in between…we really haven’t seen as much of Oz as you would think.
This amazing country is HUGE!!!! And beautiful…and it is going to take us a lot longer to see the rest of it!!!!
14 months in and this is our track so far😊
You could do this forever and still find new ground in our amazing country we call home 🇦🇺
Sad to leave Winderabandi tomorrow but thinking we may have timed it right……really not sure how much water we have left lol!!!
Wolfe Creek Crater was a pretty big detour as we were heading south, but we lucked out with the Tanami Road as the first 40klms was being graded and also sealed. This made the drive so much easier.
Unfortunately we missed the sunset, but we did do the walk on Sunrise.
This place needs to be put on your list of to-do's if you like the desert and outback.
The lighting at Sunrise and scenery out here is amazing!!!
Not a bad spot to hang for the next couple of weeks!!!!
Another amazing day in Broome.
Nik went for a massive walk early in the morning which left me to fish Roebuck Bay!!!
I lost a couple of great fish due to being very under gunned in the battle but did manage a great Cobia on one of my Barra rods and a Nomad Vide!!
I’ve now gotten the heavier gear out for a more evenly matched fight tomorrow morning(I hope) as the weather is looking amazing again!!!
Looking back on past pics as we lead upto leaving this gorgeous state, we crossed the border almost five months ago.
What a fabulous state to spend it in🙏🙏
Going to miss this place 🥰
Today was all about chasing a legal Barra for Nik.
We were very fortunate that Mitch who we’d met at donated us some Cherabin, this gave us the best chance to get one….and omg I can’t thank him enough.
We set out early to a random 😜spot in the Daly River. I put the Cherabin on a rod and cast out and started to show Nik how to use the reel as she hadn’t used a bait caster before…and bammm she was on!!! Bait lasted 15 seconds in the water. First legal fish in the boat in under 3 minutes of being anchored😀. This continued on for the next hr, bait in the water, fish on the hook. We lost a couple, one which was well over 80cm (horse of a fish.) But we boated more then we lost. Total for the hr was 7 measured, 5 lost to either a jump, hook pull or being snagged. Nik’s best for the day was 73cm with only 1 fish under 55cm.
We pulled the pin at that and headed home…what a cracking morning. Back at camp in under 2 hrs.
Well done Nik on learning some great technique to land these amazing sportsfish.
Wow, what an epic morning!!!!
I ventured out for a fish with Andrew(who had gathered bait yesterday) and had an amazing couple of hours fishing. We were late getting out due to a water buffalo having to be chased out of the park, but once we got out fishing, it was red hot!!! Hit the water at 8.00, boated the first fish at 8.19 after traveling up the river. And we were all but done but 9.45!!!!
10 fish, 2 undersize 3 around 55-60 the rest through to 73 cm!!!
We came back, cleaned up and then cooked a great lunch of Barra and Broccoli salad (pic included) this follows on from Barra and roasted Couscous from yesterday.
If you have any recipe ideas please send them through. We have a bit of fish to get through 😋
Impromptu two night stay in remote Kakadu 🙏
Planned to visit another place on our way out and stumbled across this late in the afternoon, even had a dip in south alligator river😊
Embraced the serenity and remoteness and enjoyed some Pink Floyd while gazing up at the sky and enjoying this beautiful land we live on 🙏
Super grateful Aaron agreed to come back out to Kakadu for a third time ( just shows you there is plenty to do in this magical part of the NT).
We got here a day early as we had an early start, was even lucky enough to watch the sunset overlooking this beautiful formation .
Our last trip we embarked on the 12km Barrk Sandstone Walk which unfortunately a larger section of it was closed due to fires.
We had unfinished business here and I was very keen to get back to complete it, and we are very grateful we did 🙏
Something about Kakadu National Park resonates with us similarly to the magic of uluru 😊
This late in the season we had a 5:30am start.
Absolutely magical scenery from the climb up the escarpment, to walking across the top and the ridge line, all the way back down and around the loop.
The pictures don’t do this place justice but do yourself a favour if out here in season when it’s not too hot, enjoy this beautiful climb 🧗♀️
This would have to be one
Of my favourite hikes in the NT.
Only thing missing was a waterfall but you can’t have it all, the abundance of scenery made up for it .
Blessed to live in such a beautiful country 🇦🇺 🙏♥️
This week while staying in Darwin, we had friends fly in from Port Macquarie. It was great to catch up with them!!!
While here Troy and I managed to get out on a charter chasing the awesome Barramundi!!!
We fished the Finnis river mouth and a couple of other secret spots that Zac from Barra or Blue had. I have to say he was a wealth of knowledge and taught us both a lot. Let’s hope I can repeat the success we had in the future!!!
Thanks Lee & Jenny's Bush Camp for an amazing week!!! Matt, Jess, Paul and Tegan were able to help us out with fishing tips and info about the river, I don’t think we would have caught the fish we did without their help.
They’ve just done their first dry season and I think have smashed it!!
The property has a very relaxed feel and heaps of green grass which is an absolute luxury up here!!
The pizza on Saturday night was delicious!!
I definitely recommend staying here if you heading to the Daly River for a fish!!
Also a massive shout out to my amazing Sister and Brother in Law for making the effort to share the week with us. Family time is everything, and we love the memories we have created together!!!
Out'N'About Explorin'
Immersing ourselves in Litchfield National Park, embarking on the upper and lower cascade walk, wangi falls loop escarpment walk and Greenant creek walk.
Absolutely stunning views all round 😊
Nice to have the hiking boots back on! 🥾🙏
We have been looking forward to Top End Safari for ages!! Loving our time here!!!
Absolutely loving this gorgeous place, and of course the stunning sunsets 🌅
So we stumbled across a World Record Attempt…..a 7km drive from Mandorah to Mindil Beach….sounds easy but no. They’re driving a Landcruiser 7km under the Harbour to Mindil Beach!!! Crazy bastards!!! The back story is there was an attempt 40 years ago which was so close to being successful but didn’t quite make it…we’ll these guys are 1 hour away from making history. Link for a bit more info on !!

Cooked up a beautiful chilli mud crab 🦀 👌
So fitting for our last night at crab claw island 🏝️
Came across
This pic today while
Siphoning through the last 10
Months..
On the SOT on the way to Tassie, the first part of our journey we thought we could relax ( no more family farewells etc).
This is where it all began 🙏
The state we’d researched of things to do, the excitement was almost overwhelming, not to mention the bottle of red I needed incase of sea sickness 😂
Point being..
I love a good memory, especially this one.
Had smashed a big 12 months of drastic change chasing a dream💗
Love ya babe, glad we made the decision to go our own way 💝
Twin Falls Escarpment walk was so picturesque!!!
We started out a little late for us but managed to beat the heat....just. Thankfully the creek on top of the escarpment that feeds the Twin Falls was flowing and the water was amazing....I would recommend taking swimmers so as not to cause too many surprises for other hikers 😂
The walk was graded difficult and it was for the first kilometre, but after that it was relatively easy. The kilometre past the falls along the creek was beautiful and very worth the extra effort. A great spot for a dip and some lunch.
I hope you enjoy this little snip of the hike.😊
So nice to catch up with these beautiful friends we’ve met along the way 👌🙏
Shady Camp, Northern Territory.......
We decided to head out for 5 nights, this gave us a chance to get the boat off and chase some Barra, which I was very excited about.....unfortunately it took me a few days to work out how to catch them!!!!
Anyway we managed a couple of fish, nothing of size landed, I pulled the hooks on a good fish and straightened a hook on another very good fish (very dumb on my part).
The camp site is very good, very open with new toilets. There is no water available at all so this made us be very careful over the 5 days. The biggest issue we had were the mossies!!!! They were ruthless!!! They settled a bit during the day, but come dusk.....Drakula had nothing on them!!!
Apart from those blood suckers, we saw water Buffalo, a thousand very big crocs, more birdlife then we had seen anywhere on our trip so far plus roos and cattle being mustered by helicopter....and a heap of other things which you will see in the pics(on FB) as we cant get enough up on insta.
Anyway enjoy 😊
What an amazing campground Wilgi Outstation......We loved waking to the sound of the ocean and having a camp fire right on the beach!!!! It was great to share this place with YNOT Travel
