Yep! Well said..

Things that are hard telling clients:

To not let their two puppies be together the majority of the time.
People get two puppies to keep the other one entertained. But what I've seen and dealt with more times than I can count are two dogs that can't be 4 feet apart without pi***ng themselves or having a panic attack. They rely so heavily on each other that their owners end up being meaningless.
Litter-mate syndrome is a real thing and it doesn't just effect puppies from the same litter. I've seen puppies similar in age have issues. I've seen young dogs attach to an older dog with the same issues.

That their dog needs to lose weight and feeding a good quality food.
Some owners welcome this, but it's never fun to bring up.
I've seen issues that could have been 100% avoided if they never let their dog get overweight/obese in the first place.

That their dog is genetically off. That the dog may never love other people. We can work on the dog tolerating people and learning appropriate behaviours, but it may never be the dog that does great at barbeques. Or the dog doesn't have the genetics to do what the owner wants it to do. Some dogs don't have the right drives for protection work or for agility.

Early spaying and neutering. This is a very personal choice, but I feel owners should be aware of the consequences of doing it too young. There's a ton of research out there explaining why it's better to wait, if you can.

Not taking your 12 week old puppy on a 10 mile hike. Doing any extensive exercising while the puppies bones are growing can be detrimental to their health. The spacing between a puppies growing bones is huge. They need time to fuse together. Too much exercise too young can cause a ray of issues.

Don't expect too much from your puppy or dog/don't compare your puppy or dog to someone else's. Every. Single. Dog. is different. They learn, grow, mature at their own pace. Let them be puppies and help mold them into the dog you want them to be without putting too much pressure on them or yourself.

Hand feeding. I can ALWAYS tell who hand feeds their puppies/dogs and who don't. This helps create a bond and teaches them a work ethic. It helps you dedicate 3 to 8 minutes twice a day to your four legged best friend. If your dog won't work for their food in their living room with you, how do you expect it to work with 4 to 6 other dogs and people?

Crate training. This is the number one way to make sure your dog is SAFE! This is also setting it up for success for potty issues and eating things they shouldn't. Micromanage them so they earn the trust and freedom instead of giving too much freedom and ending up in a situation that was 100% preventable.

A lot of these things aren't fun to bring up, but I do it for the health and benefit of your dog.
It's up to you to take my knowledge and years of experience and utilize it or not.

I will continue having the uncomfortable and hard to have conversations. If it helps or educates or saves one person or dog, it's worth it.

This photograph is of Max von Stephanitz, the creator of the modern German Shepherd dog breed, seen here sitting with one of the iconic dogs. Max von Stephanitz (1864–1936) was a German cavalry officer and dog breeder who is credited with standardizing the German Shepherd breed, which went on to become one of the most popular and versatile dog breeds in the world.
Historical Context:
1. Max von Stephanitz (1864-1936):
💡 Born on December 30, 1864, Max von Stephanitz was a German dog breeder and military officer. His significant contribution to the world of dog breeding came from his desire to create the ideal working dog.
💡 He began his career as a cavalry officer in the German military, which influenced his deep interest in working dogs, particularly those used for herding and guarding livestock. After retiring from the military, he dedicated his life to developing a dog breed that could serve multiple working roles, especially for herding but also for police and military use.
2. Development of the German Shepherd:
💡 In 1899, Max von Stephanitz attended a dog show where he saw a dog named Hektor Linksrhein, which he believed embodied all the qualities of the ideal working dog. Von Stephanitz purchased Hektor and renamed him Horand von Grafrath, declaring him the first registered German Shepherd dog.
💡 Horand became the foundation sire of the German Shepherd breed, and von Stephanitz established the Society for the German Shepherd Dog (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde, SV) to oversee the breed's development.
💡 Von Stephanitz was highly selective in breeding dogs that exhibited intelligence, strength, endurance, and versatility, prioritizing workability over mere appearance.
3. German Shepherd’s Rise to Fame:
💡 Under von Stephanitz’s guidance, the German Shepherd quickly gained popularity as a working dog. By the early 20th century, German Shepherds were being used by the military and police for their intelligence, trainability, and loyalty.
💡 During World War I, German Shepherds were utilized for various purposes, including as messenger dogs, guard dogs, and search-and-rescue animals. Their abilities caught the attention of international audiences, and their popularity spread beyond Germany.
💡 In the post-war period, especially after World War II, the German Shepherd became a beloved companion, guard dog, and working dog around the world.
4. Legacy:
💡 Max von Stephanitz’s work not only influenced the German Shepherd breed but also had a lasting impact on the standards for working dog breeds in general. His emphasis on breeding for performance and working ability over aesthetics became a guiding principle for future breeders.
💡 Today, German Shepherds are one of the most widely recognized and respected breeds globally, used in police work, military service, search-and-rescue operations, and as loyal companions and family pets.
Conclusion:
This photograph is a tribute to Max von Stephanitz’s legacy and his relationship with the German Shepherd breed. It symbolizes the close bond between the breed’s founder and the dog that went on to become one of the most celebrated working dogs in history. Von Stephanitz’s contributions revolutionized the breeding of working dogs, ensuring that the German Shepherd would be an enduring breed recognized for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatility.

⭐ Important information - Hip & Elbow X-Rays⭐
Now that we've gone 'digital' it is important to make sure your x-rays are sent (by you or your vet) via the correct processes. That is via the GSDCA website portal only.
https://www.gsdcouncilaustralia.org/x-ray/
❗️❗️ Do not have them sent to the reader via email or other method. Otherwise:
❌️ Your x-rays will be scored under the CHEDs Scheme
❌ You won't get an AZ stamp certificate from the GSDCA
❌The GSDCA don't get your dogs data for our HDED records/stats
❌You or your breeder don't get the results allocated to the Breeders Hip & Elbow Medal tally
❌And it will cost you MORE MONEY! 😞
Help us to help you. Double check how the x-rays are being submitted. If you're unsure or have questions contact [email protected]

Yep!! 👏👏👏 Socialisation is teaching your dog to be neutral around other dogs, not “play dates” or interacting with other dogs.

Please contact Lettland German Shepherds directly

Thank you everyone, we have enough applications for Risky.

*** AVAILABLE *** to the best of homes - exceptionally bred Main Pedigree male - Lettland Risky Business 'Risky' - 10 months of age.

Sire: VA1 Mongrif Legacy
(Fritz von Oasis x Team Dika's Extra)
Dam: Lettland In It To Win It
(VA1 Willas vom Aurelisbrandt x Lettland Althea Bright Sky)

Risky is one exceptionally bred pedigree puppy, who has absolutely beautiful temperament. He is happy, excitable puppy, always ready for adventure or to just lounge around the house after a hearty walk. He is well adjusted puppy who gets along with other dogs, kids, people and the big wide outside world. A little too curious about the birds and cats.
Risky is in perfect health and is free of testable DNA diseases.

Risky was raised by us following our extensive socialisation and training protocol until 4 months old and then he was raised by our friend at Chewie, Jax and Flint The GSDS (visit Instagram to see more about Risky).
He loves food, toys, training, flirt pole, a good game of tug and chase!
His new family will have to keep on top of the training, otherwise being a typical puppy, he might soon unlearn everything he knows if his training isn't continued and reinforced.

He is life loving, cuddle giving, energetic puppy typical of a german shepherd with a tail that never stops wagging. Loves water and dig a big hearty hole, so if you a neat lawn lover, perhaps a GSD puppy isn't for you 😆

He doesn't have any health issues, has been vaccinated, microchipped and flea and tick treated for next 6 months. He has been fed raw diet (Leading Raw + Antinol, RoseHipVital, probiotics and more) since 3 weeks of age and his new family will have to continue to feed well balanced raw. We believe in healthy diet for healthy dogs for long and happy healthy life!

There is nothing wrong with Risky, we just can't keep them all. Available on main pedigree to only the best of homes and only in 3 hours drive of Gold Coast QLD unless you can come and meet him and us in person from further interstate.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce retired Police Dog (PD) Kaos passed away on Saturday, August 10.

PD Kaos had a legendary career working with the Brisbane Dog Squad, tracking offenders and protecting the community.

During retirement, Kaos made regular visits to the Royal Children’s Hospital where he’d always bring joy to the children there. We take comfort knowing his last years were spent snoozing in the sunshine, enjoying a few snuggles and sharing bacon and egg rolls (his favourite) with his family.

Our thoughts go out to Senior Constable Griffiths and his family during this difficult time.

Rest easy Kaos, thank you for your service. 💙
