Throwback to our Wear it Purple Day last week! Wear It Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.
National Child Protection Week 1-7th September
Overarching message: ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’
This year National Child Protection Week will continue to champion the message ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’.
This message captures the essence of National Child Protection Week which aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future.
By wearing purple, Australians demonstrate to rainbow young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging all have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.
Originally founded by students in response to global stories of teenagers taking their own lives due to bullying and harassment, Wear it Purple Day has become an international movement of love and support.
This year’s theme is “Your Passion, Your Pride”, with artwork by Nicky Tsekouras, winner of Wear It Purple’s Youth Action Council (YAC) Design Competition to create a campaign message and artwork in celebration of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly achieving their dreams in sport, art, science and more!
We were out glittering up students cheeks this week! Let your sparkle shine 💜✨🌈🥰💚

International Day of Friendship 💚
The power of friendship is an international one that reaches out to all corners and cultures of the globe. International Day of Friendship is all about promoting togetherness and kindness, bringing people together. Friendship can improve your life in many ways; it can enhance emotional resilience, boost brainpower, may improve sleep and actually make you he althier! Sounds pretty good!
From all of your friends here at headspace Redcliffe, we hope today you can connect with someone you care about 💚
Tomorrow is International Day of Friendship 👫👭👬
Healthy relationships with friends means treating each other as equals as this helps keep your bond strong, safe and supportive. It is important to compromise where appropriate, experience equal give and take, respect each other's ideas (surprise, we all have different opinions!) boundaries and choices.
Boundaries are really important and include emotional, financial, physical/sexual and digital. Essentially, our communication with each other is a key element to honest friendship. Our relationships with friendships can often come like waves in an ocean, sometimes they are massive dumpers, flat as a pancake, or they might have white caps so it is helpful to understand how to resolve this conflict. Top Tips:
- try to see your friends point of view
- be willing to compromise
- admit when you are in the wrong
- if it gets heated, agree to take some time and come back to the discussion later. 💚🫶
Throwback Thursday to 2023!
It only seems like yesterday that we started the renovation of our centre, it was in fact September 2023. The project was internally nicknamed Project Phoenix Blood, yes, we all love Harry Potter, so the idea of our centre being the Phoenix slowly making its way to the burning day made heaps of sense in our minds! This project kept at the fore all of the young people and families who would be accessing our services whilst our premises were under construction. Majority of our team moved offices to the headspace Strathpine centre (we are forever grateful!) and the hallways and lunchtimes had never been louder! We had a skeleton crew at our own centre manning the forte and basically should enter for The Block 2025. Our Youth Reference Group were busy making strategic decisions about room placements, names and colour choices.
We were nominated to be a Finalist in the Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards in the not for profit category! Handball at headspace was a hit during Youth Week and we were the Charity Partner for the first ever Moreton Bay PrideFest!
So much history and we want you to come and celebrate our 10 years and this beautiful renovation that we are very proud of!

Wellness Wednesday
Brain activity fluctuates during sleep, increasing and decreasing during different sleep stages that make up the sleep cycle. Each stage plays a role in brain health, allowing activity in different parts of the brain to ramp up or down and enabling better thinking, learning, and memory. Research has also uncovered that brain activity during sleep has profound effects on emotional and mental health.
Sufficient sleep, especially rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, facilitates the brain’s processing of emotional information. During sleep, the brain works to evaluate and remember thoughts and memories, and it appears that a lack of sleep is especially harmful to the consolidation of positive emotional content. This can influence mood and emotional reactivity and is tied to mental health disorders and their severity, including the risk of suicidal ideas or behaviors.
Examples of steps towards healthier sleep habits include:
💚Having a set bedtime and maintaining a steady sleep schedule
💚Finding ways to wind-down, such as with relaxation techniques, as part of a standard routine before bedtime
💚Avoiding alcohol, to***co, and caffeine in the evening
💚Dimming lights and putting away electronic devices for an hour or more before bed
💚Getting regular exercise and natural light exposure during the daytime
💚Maximizing comfort and support from your mattress, pillows, and bedding
💚Blocking out excess light and sound that could disrupt sleep
