I have a special interest in menopause. The cross over in life from reproductive child bearing years to when we stop having a menstrual cycle, run out of eggs, and turn the corner into a whole new world!
Phases of menopause in the Chinese medicine world I focus on include…
The 30’s
The 40’s
Perimenopause
Cessation of periods
The way forward
I have a special way of breaking down your symptoms to see where you’re at. It’s not magic, no. It’s based on the research, TCM knowledge and being aware of the reproductive life of a woman through my training.
So what symptoms do I see most?
Dryness and heat are the two most common complaints in clinic.
With a third being weight gain or inability to shift weight.
Menopausal syndrome may also manifest with emotion changes which might include poor memory, lack of concentration, moodiness.
Sounds fun hey 🙄
There are plenty of ways to PREPARE for menopause and also TRANSITION to menopause with better outcomes.
Even if you’re in your early 30’s and still having babies, you should consider your future.
Food for thought
Come and have a consult to learn why acupuncture and Chinese medicine hold sacred tools for menopause and living a better life ❤️❤️❤️
The sun these last two days has provided beautiful Yang energy. It’s nourished and invigorated even the tired souls out there I’m sure.
Bursts of Yang energy in winter can also disrupt. They can disrupt the Yin months of stillness and preparing for the growth in spring.
Be mindful of these quick changes and prepare for anything. Things can come at you quickly when you’re least expecting it…
On the flip side, I always use warmth during winter treatments (and usually summer too!) for a variety of Chinese medicine imbalances I see in clinic.
If you’ve been in to my treatment room you’ll know how great the heat lamps can be. They’re a Chinese medicine favourite and the warmth of Yang can move deeply both on the surface and interior 🤗
What happens during perimenopause and menopause?
Natural estrogen levels decrease-that’s the most well known and researched aspect.
But how does this change what your body and mind feel like?
I am about to release a series of posts on this topic.
As a woman, the va**na is used for childbirth, s*x, menstruation. It’s a big aspect of being a female from birth, and if you continue your life as a woman it will go through some changes!
Sometimes the gold standard treatment of estrogen hormone therapy doesn’t quite cut it when it comes to the va**na. So here’s some tips to help get through this period of life.
*this is not specific guidance, or medical advice. Your situation must be assessed individually
❤️ use a good water based lubricant during s*x
💧 keep hydrated and minimise alcohol consumption
💓 keep having s*x! Vaginal atrophy from the research available is minimised with keeping up a healthy s*x life
🫙 use a good daily va**nal moisturiser

☯️ get some acupuncture and Chinese medicine in your life!

We’re moving through winter at a rapid pace so now is the time to start prepping for spring and summer.
You better believe it !!
Did you know that s*xual arousal and libido can be enhanced by settling down the autonomic nervous system?
Those who have come in and received acupuncture can likely back me up on the fact that it’s SO relaxing. I love coming back in the room and patients are snoring!
If you’re looking at finding some spice with your s*x life then you must consider settling down your nervous system.
Arousal is something humans don’t usually plan. Nor do humans force desire. It’s either there or it is not.

Would you believe there are many ways you can build up your iron stores, just by eating specific foods?
And here this - that doesn’t mean red meat !!!!
If you, or someone you know have low iron then I’d highly recommend booking an appointment.
Any Chinese medicine practitioner or acupuncturist can help with this, but of course I would like to see you 😜
Acupuncture on the tummy.
Such a relaxing treatment which brings focus on concerns such as…
🩸 period difficulties like irregular periods, heavy flow, painful flow, ovulation pains, missing periods and more
💩bowel concerns and digestion- this can be things like IBS, loose stools, diverticulitis, constipation, bloating, reflux and indigestion and more
As an Acupuncturist I work with the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis but also take into account all your symptoms. Not just what your GP has diagnosed. I work with YOUR body and what it’s showing you.

Thanks for my model for letting me use her belly x
Dysfunctional bleeding is a common reason women seek out acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatment.
As an Acupunturist, my methods are different for diagnosis to those of your GP, Gynaecologist etc. We use Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles to work out your individual concern.
Menstrual cycles are RHYTHMIC changes in the body. Alot of factors influence your cycle like
- poor diet
- stress
- lack of sleep
- trying for a baby (=stress at times!)
- lifestyle in general
- too much exercise
THE AIM - to control the bleeding via the various meridians or channels we have in the body.
TCM shows us that reasons for dysfunctional bleeding include
- heat in the uterus (thick blood)
- stasis in the uterus (missed periods, dark/purple blood, clots)
- damp-heat in the uterus (purple/dark blood, thick and sticky, sudden or profuse bleeding)
- qi deficiency/body can’t hold the blood (irregular bleeds, spotting, light coloured blood, seems watery)
- kidney yin deficiency (irregular bleed, thick and bright red, excessive duration or volume)
- kidney yang deficiency (absent or irregular periods, not ovulating regularly or at all, blood is light and limbs feel cold eg hands and feet)
If you experience any of these, or know someone who does, find a time and book in! Acupuncture has a unique knack for working within the body to regulate and restore balance. Give it a try!
Simple yes. But do we do it?
I know some days I don’t!
Take a look. It might help you re-jig your Friday 😉
Coffee
Addictive like chocolate and good s*x 😆
*(note-this is my barista version and he’s a peanut with arms on a cloud 😆. Enjoy. 😉)
How much is too much?
When is best to drink it?
Would you be better off without it?
All questions that can be answered in a consult to determine what dietetics are right for YOU!
Food makes us feel a certain way. That’s based on how our cells uptake and use the nutrients (or lack of) and how we eliminate what we don’t need as well.
Chinese medicine works on body types, constitutional analysis and working out where your diet may be going a bit haywire. Food can build you up or wreck you 😞
Bookings at Seaford Heights Tues, Wed, Fri and alt Sat.

Do you know when you ovulate?
Are you absolutely sure? 🤨
In my clinical experience I could easily say around half my patients have the timing wrong.
How does this impact trying to conceive (TTC)?
Well…
• ovulation needs to happen to release a follicle/egg
• without it, no chance of conception
• if timing is off the egg expires before fertilisation
• alternatively the s***m deposited expire before the egg can be released
• all this means no conception that month
I have completed postgrad training in many aspects of fertility and s*xual health care. One being helping you determine when you ovulate and supporting correction of that cycle.
When needed I refer you off for further testing or fertility support through various clinics around Adelaide. But sometimes all you need to make a baby is to be absolutely ** certain of timing.
And being in the best of health for your potential new baby 🤗. That goes for BOTH men and women.
I am taking new patients now at Seaford Heights so book your initial consult with me to start the journey!!!
A few spots left this week for acupuncture 🤗
Some peeps I saw last week in clinic came in for…
🐣 IVF prep
😴 sleep issues
😣 itchy skin conditions
🤧 getting over sickness
👃 sinus congestion (but this looks like a p*nis oddly enough !)
🩸 menstrual cycle irregularities
🥱 chronic fatigue
💪exercise recovery and injury
🤰pregnancy and birth prep/induction
🥵 menopause complaints
Gives you insight into the variety of things Chinese medicine might help with 🤗
Many factors can either enhance or restrict the female libido.
Stress is a major factor, let’s be honest, when you’re stressed you’re not turned on.
Other factors that change how women approach s*xuality can include medications, time of life eg menopause, climate, diet, lifestyle, and how much exercise or movement you’re doing each week.
If you want to see changes in your libido then you must do something about it! It won’t change on its own!
Book yourself a consult at www.glowacu.com.au or via the website you can find the link too!

Are you aware of your body?
We are all aware of the mind therapies out there, for instance mindfulness or meditative practices.
But are you tuned in to your body? I guess this is a form of mindfulness all on its own, but it’s very specific.
I suggest starting a diary. Even for only a week.
Each day record what’s happening for you with the five points above.
Observe
Sleep
Move
Nurture
Feel well
At the end of the week…
What did you observe each day?
How much sleep were you getting? Quality of sleep? Broken? Solid? Waking alert or tired?
How did you move? What movement did you do? And this can be as small as how many steps you took.
What nurturing activities did you pursue?
And how do you feel?
Tap into the words of your being and see what comes back for you!
Whether you’re in a partnership or running solo, s*xual health is part of being human.
I have a special focus on s*xual and reproductive health and in my clinical experience I find correlations between emotional states and s*x drive, often. Amongst other things of course.
Chinese medicine, and acupuncture in particular provide a great scope for determining what is the underlying reason for lack of “s*x drive” or libido.
Some reasons can include
❤️ lack of connection with your boys
❤️ recent big events eg post-birth, traumatic events, grief, life changes like moving house, or relationship changes
❤️ stress! In general this is a libido killer
Plus a ton of other reasons you’re feeling the way you do…
My initial consult can provide the space to explore what’s happening for you.
Or, we maybe have been working on treatment for something totally unrelated! But if you’d like support and working towards a healthier s*x life for you, just let me know at your next treatment 👍

Need I say more.
One thing patients often comment on is how “different” they feel when they leave their acupuncture session.
Now, maybe it’s because they’ve actually allowed themselves the down time…or, just maybe, their treatment has helped and realigned their energy.
❓Did you know…
We as humans are made up electrical impulses. Our bodies are energetic!
Our cells are specially made to conduct electrical currents and electricity is required for the nervous system to send all the signals we need through the body.
So it makes sense that if the flow is up the sh***er, we might feel slightly crappy? Yeah?
Get in for an Acupuncture consult with me.

I’m gonna be big on this stuff this year.
Sorting out your head and mind space creates less congestion, less confusion, and less pressure on your poor spleen qi by overthinking!
Your liver and gallbladder qi can then do their thing with making decisions and implement change (the wood element which is about growth essentially!)
If you’d like to know more get your butt in for some acupuncture and gain some clarity. Enhance your qi ☯️
