Qualified Automotive Mechanic / Workshop Foreman Job in Slacks Creek, Brisbane QLD Are you a qualified Automotive Mechanic / Workshop Foreman? This full time position is for you!

Are you an experienced machinist/engine rebuilder?

UMR Engines has a full-time position available for you!

You will have experience in:

- Machining - bore and honing, milling block decks, con rod restoration, etc.
- Using a Sunnen rod hone, semi-automatic hydraulic cylinder hone, and Rottler air float boring bar is an advantage.
- All reconditioning processes.
- Reconditioning and rebuilding all makes and models of passenger cars with petrol and diesel engines.

Selected training will be available to the successful applicant, along with complete access to UMR Engines air-conditioned engine assembly room. Potential weekly performance bonuses (once the probation period is complete), short working day each Friday, and above award remuneration.

We are looking for a fully qualified mechanic to join our workshop, starting as soon as possible. We are offering a casual position with an hourly rate of $30, plus performance bonuses. This position may be offered on a full-time basis, upon completion of a probation period.

The right candidate will have knowledge in general mechanics and engine repairs for all types of petrol, 4WD, and diesel vehicles; they will also be familiar with head gaskets, and new cylinder head replacements.

We will take into consideration an experienced third or fourth year apprentice, offering the right candidate an above award wage, depending on their experience and skills.

UMR ENGINE’S CYLINDER HEAD RECONDITIONING SECTION
UMR Engines has a vacancy for an experienced MOTOR MECHANIC.
This is a permanent full-time position.
TRANING PROVIDED IF REQUIRED.
UMR’s generous wages are paid weekly on Friday.
UMR’s work times are very family friendly and an early finish on Friday is mandatory.
The valve seat equipment in this section is a Serdi 60 and a Serdi 100.
The surface mill is a Berko, using CBN tooling and fitted with a Windfield Jig.
The cylinder head cleaning is centred around a rather large air-hydraulic loading ultrasonic machine, a hot tank, dry bead blaster and hot spin wash.
The cylinder head assembly area is airconditioned and has an air float assembly machine.
The alloy welding is carried out with 2 tig welders, and any steel fabrication with a mig-welder.
The valve facer is a Rottler valve grinding machine, backed up by Warren and Brown for tipping.
Flywheel grinding machine is a Comec using a diamond-impregnated cone wheel, and manifolds are machined on an easy to operate Kwik-way surfacer.

As you would be aware we have been advertising for a young employee for our cylinder head section for a few months now. It was a hard task as the attitudes of some of the applicants were well below what is required to become a competent trade qualified employee. We love training employees who can achieve a very high standard of knowledge and workmanship.
The poor work ethics displayed by most applicants is what inhibited the opportunity for permanent employment at UMR Engines. I needed a young person who wanted to learn and was also willing to work hard to achieve above average results. After offering the job to some applicants who let me down even prior to their starting date, I settled on a young man I know reasonably well. His name is Luca and comes from a family background where both sides of his family have always been involved in small business, hard work and personal achievement. It has proved to me that a strong hard working family develops offspring that are bound for success.
Luca has been employed for a couple of weeks now. As an experienced employer of apprentices for over 45 years I already see great potential in this young man to achieve top honors in his chosen trade. I have observed Luca and the highly experienced senior tradesman in deep conversation about procedures and theory. Luca was also asking questions which is very encouraging for Lindsay and myself, as it shows he is very interested to gain as much knowledge as possible. Level 5 is starting pay for evaluation over 5 weeks.
Level 6 is subject to evaluation at 5 weeks and monthly thereafter.
