In 2022, Karakan Ltd (a not-for-profit mental health and disability support services provider) engaged Studious to look into their brand as it stood and see how a refresh might better represent their vision, growth and trajectory as an innovative leader in their space.
Studious developed a system that included:
👉 a new to represent the coming together of people in support of each other
👉 an expanded and modified palette meeting standards to ensure everyone is included when communicating
👉 new branded typeface and system to provide better legibility and engagement with the brand in written form
👉 tone-of-voice to better represent how Karakan employees engage with their clients and their faimilies to take advantage of the authenticity they had already instilled in their team
👉 and last, but not least, a new tagline (you can. we can.) that almost acts as a direct message to their clients and goes to the heart of their brand approach and service offer… to help individuals build resilience and live life better together, via unwavering support.
The team at Karakan were a pleasure to work with, and it’s wonderful to see them grow their brand and really live out their brand promise.
Inspiration from all corners of the globe. 📚🌏.
It’s the simplest way I’ve been able to explain the difference between brand identity and brand, for years.
A brand is not a logo, typeface, or colour scheme. These elements are brand identity and great brand identity design can create a vessel for a brand to thrive. But that’s all it is. It’s nothing if the brand’s business doesn’t fill that vessel. A business needs to define its purpose and delve deeper into who they are, how they operate, how they treat employees, how they interact with their customer and affect how people feel about them. That is brand.
Brand success comes when identity and brand go together seamlessly in form and function… just like a perfectly weighted glass and single malt. 😉🥃.
[Throwback] to the deadliest Sloth 🦥 you’ve ever seen… and back to Chris’ roots.
was what drove him towards as a kid. He’s been designing logos commercially ever since he was 14 years old and he hasn’t looked back.
Graphic design, logos and have been a life long passion. Although this particular cricket team doesn’t take themselves too seriously, the thought process, the craft and the care behind this 2012 design (and subsequent 2017 refresh) is serious business.
We take this passion into every single project we take on.
Who doesn’t love a custom t-shirt design x play on words x nerdy designer reference x catchy tune lyric. 😂🤓.
Thanks to for producing our little experiment (it had been burning a hole in Chris’ head for too long and needed to be put on cloth). A quality T, super fast, arriving in some thoughtful/ sustainable packaging 🙌🌿♻️.
Reckon we might be repping this one and maybe a couple of other designs at our next conference.

[New work] Vivify brand identity design.
The aspect of growth, from the ground up, from the earth, putting in the time to grow something substantial the right way, is what we wanted to convey in our brand identity design.
Through the
— evident visual notes in our brand mark design, depicting people/communities (the two ‘i’s) growing and connecting with each other,
— the typographical use of underlining in feature text which ‘grounds’ and emphasises the content while tying in with the brand mark, and
— the earth tones of rich soil, deep forest, mountain mist and tropical sand in our chosen colour palette,
it’s all designed specifically to portray a sense of growth for yourself and others and responsibility towards making choices that help shape a more environmentally sustainable future for everyone.
