September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the fact that prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. The good news is that it's often manageable with early detection and proper treatment.

Stay alert for these signs:
• Difficulty urinating or a weak urine stream
• Frequent urges to urinate, especially at night
• A burning sensation during urination
• Pain or discomfort in the pelvic area
• Blood in urine or semen

If you notice any symptoms, schedule a check-up and have an open conversation with your GP.

Did you know that sometimes a simple conversation can make the world of difference?

Today is R U OK Day and we’re encouraging you to ask R U OK? Any Day, because life happens every day. The people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.

Here are the four steps of an R U OK? conversation.

By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on. Your support can be a beacon of hope for someone who might be struggling 🌈

If you find yourself feeling lost, please book in a mental health assessment with your GP. They’re here to help.

3 in 4 Australians are at risk of kidney disease. Are you?

It’s Kidney Action Week, and no better time to find out if you are at risk of getting this incurable disease before symptoms appear. Take the 2-minute online risk test at https://kidney.org.au/kidneyrisktest

Your kidneys keep you alive. They work hard to clean your blood, eliminate waste products via your urine and regulate your blood pressure. Even though 3 in 4 Aussies are at risk of kidney disease, most people never think about kidney disease until it’s too late. Currently, 1.8 million Australian adults have kidney disease and don't even know it. How? Because kidney disease is silent. You can lose 90% of your kidney function with no symptoms, and by that stage, it's too late; your kidneys have failed, and you need dialysis or someone else's kidney to stay alive. The only way to slow down kidney disease is to catch it early before symptoms appear.

Kidney Health Australia is asking all Australians over 18 years of age to complete the online risk test and take kidney disease seriously!

It’s National Diabetes Week!

Do you know someone living with diabetes?

According to the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes, more than 4 in 5 people with diabetes have experienced diabetes stigma at some point in their lives. This means that many people with diabetes feel they have been judged or treated differently because of the disease.

This National Diabetes Week let’s change how we talk about diabetes by showing compassion, respect, and work together to reduce diabetes stigma.

If you’re a person living with diabetes, use this week to book an appointment to talk with your GP about managing your diabetes.
