We underestimate the power of eating and drinking in childbirth: keep in mind your uterus is a muscle that is working HARD - give it the energy it needs to do it’s job effectively. BUT - here’s the catch (and this was mine and many other women’s experiences) - you won’t necessarily want to eat or drink in labour 🙈 It’s not exactly your top priority or focus! This is why it’s good to eat when you can / want to in EARLY LABOUR but if labour is long you’ll need extra sustenance later down the road …
Check out this boss birthing mamma letting her support team feed her in between contractions . It might be the smallest of sips or bites, but it will make a difference: especially for longer labours 👍

A big hurdle I personally struggled with on my BF journey was this paradox of the ideal versus the reality. This picture is a great summary of that - it just captures the ideal - it doesn’t show the many, many, many nights of hardship that went into mine and Indie’s breastfeeding journey …
One of the biggest dis-services modern culture and societal messaging does to new mothers is to state that this is a natural process and should therefore come easily. In fact this tends to be the lens that motherhood in general has been portrayed through for many years. But when has anything ‘natural’ been easy?! I grew up on David Attenborough wildlife documentaries and I can confidently state that world of nature is rarely easy (remember the baby lizard and the pit of hungry snakes anyone?!)
BF for many is not easy. It can be physically painful . It can have connotations we are really uncomfortable with (yes I’m talking about the ni**le and its role in s*x). It can be extremely frustrating and anxiety inducing when we are struggling with supply / demand and issues with reflux, colic and latching, to name a few. To go into this experience thinking it ‘should’ feel easy, natural and ‘second nature’ can therefore lead us to a pretty painful experience both mentally and physically. The amount of mother’s that have feelings of failure that I have spoken to in my line of work just saddens me in my heart - they are not failing - they are being failed.
And this is why it is so important that information on BF is out there: women deserve to know all the wonderful benefits: but we also deserve to know the realities of the struggles we might face: and how we might therefore best support ourselves to face these. And ultimately we deserve to feel empowered to make our own choices about what is right for us and our babies based on our own personal circumstances and the support we have. Each breastfeeding journey is unique: even between children. Let’s respect the journey and not hold it up to an ideal.

Hi folks 👋 My new Stress Release Yoga Class starts next Saturday 17th June at Buderim Cricket Club (Ballinger Road) at 8am
This will be a weekly 75 minute stress-release class to restore, revitalise and rejuvenate the body and mind for the weekend ahead. All are welcome : beginner and everyBODY friendly.
Movement is medicine so we will start with various yoga poses and once we are starting to relax the Nervous System, we’ll go deeper with some breath work / visualisation /meditation techniques before finishing with a short 15 minute Yoga Nidra - yum!

Class Benefits
The stress hormone Cortisol is reduced in the body by:
- Physical movement (e.g: yoga postures called “Asanas”)
- Effective breathing to reset the Nervous System (e.g: Yogic breathing techniques called “Pranayama”)

With the incredible love and support of Anne, Lisa and Caz at clmidwifery we got to have our home birth experience and it was everything I had hoped for. Being able to bring life into this world whilst feeling strong, safe and empowered is an experience I will never forget and am one I am truly grateful for 🙏
We used yogic breathing and sounds for the first half of things, as well as JuJu Sundin’s movement and juggling balls techniques; and then as things intensified the wonderful primal sounds emerged to meet the pain.
I just loved the primal magic in those moments that feel like I was stepping into another reality but at the same time I was the most present I’ve ever been for anything in my life. The ultimate in meditative states ! ✨
Lots to reflect upon over the coming weeks and months but once again I find myself in awe of the whole birth experience and a deep curiosity to explore this further…
For now though it’s time to rest, nourish and enjoy the latest addition to our family 🥰
Thank you to the incredibly talented for my amazing pregnancy photos 💝 I can’t more highly recommend working with Tazzie to create memories of your pregnancy that you will cherish - clothes off is optional - she also did some amazing photos of me with clothes on but either way she will make you feel super relaxed and joyful 👍
This was such an empowering experience that made me really appreciate and love my changing body so much more! 💗
And with that in mind, it is time to officially hang up my yoga teaching / therapy hat for a little while as I continue to honour my body and create the space and nourishment it needs as I move into these final weeks of providing this darling girl with a home in my belly.

Recently my regular and perinatal yoga classes and philosophy have been deeply focussed on the reconnection within - we have nothing to achieve, prove or attain. Instead our sense of self worth will come from within 💗
As we peel back those external layers of being we can get lost in operating through, we reveal that a deep sense of joy, peace and love was already there at our very core.
Yoga and it’s practices allow for the space and quietness needed to get back to that inner layer. It’s a practice, a daily, practice but the reward is great - we finally start to believe we are enough just as we are ✨

What a lovely end to 2021 with the birth of two more gorgeous bubs from our pregnancy yoga classes 💙💙
💙 Gorgeous Ruben (pictured) was born on 16th December with mum saying that the birth preparation work she’d done through the classes and course came in helpful and she was able to use some of the tools she had learnt to help support her in a positive childbirth experience .

Want to use the tools and practices of yoga to kick your ASS (anxiety, stress and sleep issues)?!
If you find yourself falling down the rabbit hole of getting lost in your thoughts, (or controlled by them completely) and the idea of getting a full and peaceful nights sleep sounds like something you'd really like to re-introduce to your life then this Friday evening course could be just what you're looking for.
Between the hours of 7pm-9pm, we will explore a range of different yoga tools and practices, including breath-work, visualisations, mudra (hand gestures), mantras, yoga poses and mindfulness based techniques that have all been linked to reducing stress, anxiety and improving sleep. We will also explore some yogic philosophy that will be relevant in helping the mind achieve our goals of more peaceful nights (and days as a result!)
These are tools you can then take home with you and put into practice as part of a regular night-time routine (no it doesn't have to be long!), that over time and practice will help you to better manage stress, anxiety and difficulties with falling or staying asleep.
Drawing on a lot of the tools and practices I learnt directly in my time training and working as a Yoga Therapist, I am always filled with joy when clients report back that these actually make a significant, positive, and lasting difference to their sleep and stress levels.
