Matraville Veterinary Practice is seeking an experienced veterinary nurse to join our team. Located in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney, we are a busy small animal clinic. We require a nurse with at least two years of experience and a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing qualification.

𝐅𝐀𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭?

𝐀: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞, 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

🐾 Male and female puppy dogs can be neutered any time after 8 weeks unless the pooch weighs less than 1kg. However, we usually recommend waiting until 5-6 months as the anaesthetic is safer when puppies are around this age.

🐾 For large and giant breed dogs recent research has shown there are some benefits in waiting until over 12 months of age for des*xing.

🐾 Female dogs should not get spayed if they are on heat because of much higher risk of bleeding during surgery. We recommend to wait at least 4-8 weeks before booking in to allow the uterus to return to its usual size.

🐾 It is not recommended to de s*x pets which have experienced a recent and severe injury or illness.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: While it's true that tick activity may decrease in colder months, they don't disappear entirely. Ticks are resilient and can still pose a threat to your pets, even in winter. Some species are active at lower temperatures.

Our cute patient of the day is “Zanzee”.
A 2.7kg Brussels Griffon who was in for a dental check today.
Zanzee is a qualified Delta dog which means she has undergone training and assessments and she now visits patients at the Children’s Hospital.
We all fell in love with her for obvious reasons.

Blood tests are like a secret code that helps us understand your pet's health. Since our furry friends can't talk, these tests give us important clues about how they're doing inside🩸🏥

We can check things like their blood cells, immune system, and even look for signs of injuries or sickness. Plus, we can see if everything is working properly in their body, like their sugar levels, enzymes, and hormones. It's like a sneak p*ek into their health to make sure they're feeling their best 💯
