If this is happening to you, don’t stress! This is completely normal, and indicative of great retention and aftercare 😉

When your lashes naturally shed, they take the extension on top along with them. This means that, depending on your lash cycle, you could have 1-5 lashes falling out every day with their attached extensions 💁🏻‍♀️ It is one of the main reasons that infills are so important to keeping that lash line looking voluminous 24/7!

Although we always cleanse your lashes before extension application, you can still save priceless time during your appointment by coming in with clean lashes! 💁🏻‍♀️

That means having your eyes free of makeup – especially mascara ❌ Some mascaras contain oils that can prevent eyelash extensions bonding correctly. Old mascara may have to be removed manually with tweezers, and this takes precious time out of your appointment!

Be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover if removing makeup! 😉

The hybrid difference 😍 No make up? No issues!

This client expressed that she did not want to have her inner corners lashed due to a sensitive monolid crease. Of course, that wasn’t a problem!

Everyone’s lash cycle is different, but it is said that the average person sheds 2-3 lashes a day naturally. That’s around 21 a week, and 42 in a fortnight!

Around 2 to 3 weeks after your initial lash appointment, these lashes will have reached the end of their life cycles and shed. You will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen, with new baby lashes coming through – at this point it’s a good time to get infills, so your lashes always look nice and full. Once a baby lash is mature and strong enough to hold an extension, we can apply a lash there!

During infills, we also remove extensions which have grown out and replace them as to not bend or weigh your natural lashes down.

If you happen to have oily skin, you will need to get infills more regularly.

I always recommend booking right after your appointment to guarantee a spot! 😉💜

The short answer is no 🙅🏻‍♀️

Extensions should not be making your eyes red, watery, irritated or painful! In most cases, irritated eyes which tear up are a result of exposure to lash glue fumes (which is your lash tech’s responsibility to check!).

Symptoms arising from fume exposure should clear up within a few days, but if you’re experiencing symptoms that are more severe and do not clear up, then you may be allergic. In which case, it is our responsibility to remove your extensions and send you away to the doctor.

The biggest myth about eyelash extensions is that they will cause damage to the natural lashes regardless of the technician’s technique or skill level. 😰

In reality, lash application is a lot like cooking! 👩🏻‍🍳 You don’t burn your food or wreck your saucepan every time you step into the kitchen, right? (I hope not!) Just like cooking, lash application can be done well and safely with the proper technique, knowledge and skills.

Lash extensions alone will NOT ruin your lashes. Damage to the natural lashes is the result of improper application, or the stylist not selecting the correct type of lash for an existing natural lash. Inexperienced, uncertified (and perhaps ignorant) lash artists may apply extensions that are too heavy for your natural lash. This will result in premature shedding or a downward growth of your natural lashes.

So when is a lash too heavy? 🧐 When extensions that are too long or too wide in diameter, the weight of the extension can cause the natural lash to be pulled from the follicle before it is ready to shed. Once a follicle is damaged, it will no longer be able to produce hair, thus resulting in more sparse lashes over time. 

That’s why we prefer (and only offer) natural and seamless lash extensions! When things are done correctly, your extensions will fall off as a part of the normal shedding process or rubbing your eyes, which will result in immediate breakage.

The client we saw here had extensive damage from improper lash application by other technicians. She had frequently received lash sets that were too long and thick for her - what we often describe as ‘Instagram lashes’. We recommended that she take a break from extensions, eye curling and frequent strip lash use and these are the results after two months! We can’t wait to give her a light, fluffy set when her lashes are ready 😍
