Marimo, a Japanese word which literally translates to “seaweed ball” are not moss at all - they’re actually a rare form of spherical algae. There’s no central stone or kernel inside the sphere - it’s solid algae, radiating from the center, growing radially outward at the snail’s pace of just 5mm per year.

Java moss works great in both the low tech and high tech tank. It is beginner friendly, and can tolerate a wide range of parameters and temperatures, ranging from cold-water to tropical tanks.

Ludwigia sp. Mini 'Super Red' requires good lighting to grow well, but otherwise is undemanding. This plant looks similar to Ludwigia "Rubin", but has smaller leaves. Like with most other aquarium plants, Ludwigia sp. 'Super Red' will do best with rich nutrient substrate, high lighting and CO2 injection.

Cholla wood is the skeleton of the cholla plant, its hollow core provides plenty of places for shrimp to hide and is ideal for attaching plants. Cholla driftwood is a great biofilm home and provides a good food source for dwarf cherry aquarium shrimp. Cholla is a soft wood and eventually will break down over a long period of time. It will float initially when added into an aquarium fish tank but will eventually sink.
