Lane Cove Labor is committed to working with the Federal Government to address gender-based violence.
We believe the steps needed to address the shocking rise in women killed by intimate partners requires engagement at all levels of government.
Our policy includes:
• campaigning for the provision of qualified caseworkers trained to support children from families fleeing abuse;
• a program to access existing short and intermediate term emergency accommodation; and
• over the next term, advocate to keep women and children in their home and shift the burden to leave from victim-survivor to abuser.
According to the North Sydney Police Area Command up to 70% of domestic violence/abuse goes unreported on the North Shore.
Working together, we can make the change that is so desperately needed.

I am at the Lane Cove Council civic centre with Katie M Little and Ken Quail - Labor for Central Ward, Lane Cove for prepoll.
We are all so proud of Lane Cove Labor practical and sustainable policies, and we look forward to representing our community on Lane Cove Council.
Please stop and say hi; we're here to answer your questions.
Lane Cove Labor is committed to working with all levels of government to end the epidemic of domestic abuse and violence.
We are proud of our policies that will ensure that every level of government takes the issue of domestic abuse seriously.
We believe everyone deserves to be safe and we are committed to helping make that happen.
Thank you Anthony Albanese for taking the lead.
On Wednesday Night at the Meet the Candidates Event at the Greenwich Sailing Club I was asked the question 'Does the proposed offleash dog park encroach into the C2 zoned area?' I incorrectly answered NO and need to correct the record. I enquired today and received the following response from Council:
"A portion of the northern end of Bob Campbell Oval has a zoning of C2 – Environmental Conservation (shaded in yellow in the below plan). This area was a grassed area and had a portion of the old playground in it. It was not bushland before the upgrade works commenced and our historical photos show that it has never been bushland.
Council is aware of the concerns being raised regarding the plans for the C2 zoned area within the Bob Campbell Oval Masterplan. There are no changes to the plans for this area; Council remains committed to restoring the existing bushland in the local area, including at BCO. Please refer below to some clarification to assist in improving awareness as to how the Masterplan is being implemented:
• The Masterplan reflects Council’s commitment to ‘restore existing bushland in C2 zoned area and create vegetation buffer between two zoned areas’
• There are no changes to the above commitment
• The existing bushland in the C2 zoned area which is marked on all maps within the Masterplan will be regenerated
• A bushland interface with the grassed area within C2 zone will be created, this process has already commenced and is not part of the scope of the current Tendered works
• There was never any intention by Council’s plans to create bushland over the existing grassed area. The grassed area and the existing park benches are being retained as they are used for bushcare related activities.
• Within the Masterplan the number 5 appears indicatively well away from the interface with the other zone (see image further below); there is no indication as to where the buffer starts or stops
• It is clear on the Masterplan that the new tree planting area does not fall within the C2 zone
Council is also aware of commentary around the interface with the off-leash dog area.
• Bob Campbell Oval is currently entirely off-leash
• Upon completion only the northern portion of Bob Campbell Oval will be a fenced off-leashed dog area
• This fence will prevent off-leash dogs from entering the bushland
• The off-leash dog area will replace the existing playground which will be removed and the disturbed area will be turfed as it is located within the new dog off-leash area
For ease of use, the map and key on the public signage does not include all details contained within the Masterplan, Tender etc. This is consistent with other public signage installed for our Major Projects. The sign therefore will not be updated with additional figures and notes regarding specific demarcation lines – the image used is consistently sourced from the Masterplan. However, Council will update the project image on the website to indicate the location of the new off-leash area."
I hope this now provides clarity.
Last night I had the great pleasure to meet Daniel Mookhey, MLC, NSW Treasurer at a community event hosted by Lane Cove Labor.
He discussed toll roads and motorways, processes for state grants for projects and the role of Councils in providing sporting facilities.
Did you know that up to 70% of domestic abuse experienced by women on the Lower North Shore goes unreported?* Just because you haven't seen it or personally experienced it, doesn't mean it's not happening in our community.
People working with victim-survivors recognise the impact of domestic abuse on women and children.
Domestic abuse is an on-going repeated pattern of escalating behaviour.
It can include physical violence, psychological manipulation, coercive control or a lack of financial freedom. Domestic abuse affects both physical and mental health of the whole family , work productivity, friendships, and school attendance.
Lane Cove Labor is proud of our headline commitment to support a range of strategies for women and children at risk.
We believe the steps needed to address the shocking rise in women killed by intimate partners requires engagement at all levels of government.
Our policy includes:
• campaigning for the provision of qualified caseworkers trained to support children from families fleeing abuse;
• a program to access existing short and intermediate term emergency accommodation; and
• over the next term, advocate to keep women and children in their home and shift the burden to leave from victim-survivor to abuser.

The best prime minister we never had.
It was a pleasure to meet with quite a few residents at the Meet the Candidates event at the Greenwich Sailing Club last nIght. There appeared to be some at the event that believed that the public forum meeting being changed to a Monday night was permanent. As you can see from the resolution adopted at the Extra-ordinary Council Meeting on 26th February 2024, the policy was only a trial until being reviewed in September 2024.
Prepoll for the 2024 Local Government Election is now open.
If you need to vote before election day on the Saturday 14 September, head over to the Cove Room at the Lane Cove Council building and vote.
Say Hi to our candidates on the way in and make sure you stop and chat if you have any questions.

Lane Cove Labor is committed go providing better shops and services in Lane Cove North, and advocating for a small grocery store in the social housing redevelopment on Mindarie Street.
Without an appropriate neighbourhood centre, the rapidly growing community of the Mowbray Road Precinct are forced to drive to the village for basic services, increasing traffic and reducing incidental activity.
Mindarie Park is a wonderful space; ideal for families with children. However there is an opportunity to provide more community-minded public spaces and cater to the broader needs of the entire community.
Lane Cove Labor will continue to advocate for this, to the NSW Government, on behalf of our community.
