Seaside Ceramics Studio - Art by Tahlz
Hi! I’m Tahli, a ceramic artist living on Sydney's Northern Beaches. My love of the environment, the ocean and illustration inspire my creations. Hello!
I’m Tahli, a ceramic artist based on Sydney's Northern Beaches. My clay journey started in 2022 - it’s been incredible so far and I’m thrilled to share my creations with you, showcasing my passion for ocean animals and illustration. In my studio, you’ll find a variety of functional ceramics—from bowls and plates to mugs and vases—each piece infused with my background in graphic arts & my love for
Some more pieces I made at TAFE. People voted for white with speckles AND the blue & white glaze colours, so I’ve got a couple of blue & white cups coming soon. I stuffed up the layering, so they’re not ready yet 😅
These will be with me at Palm Beach market tomorrow, 9am-3pm 😊😁
Some cute little wave cups I made at TAFE are finally out & will be coming to Palm Beach Market with me on Sunday 😊.
When I’m at Tafe, class always seems to go too quickly & I always want to do more! Same goes with making at home…
A lovely family (who’ve visited my stall before) asked for a custom turtle bowl – I ended up making four, and they happily took home three! 🐢🐢
Busy day of trimming & attaching handles!! Argh, now time to vote & then get ready for market at Mona Vale tomorrow!!
Excited to see this for NSW!! A plan to reduce plastics in our environment!
NSW Plastics: The Way Forward We are seeking your feedback on the proposed actions and timeframes in the action paper, NSW Plastics: The Way Forward.
I’ve got a busy few weeks coming up, so sorry for the late organising!
>I’ll be at my usual Mona Vale market this coming Sunday (watch out for some new products late Saturday arvo 😉).
>Then I’ll be at the Palm Beach market the weekend after - yay!!!
>Sad news though, I can’t make the Avalon spring market on 29th ☹️
>Then the next week I’ll be away & having a break from making.
:)
Broke my mug, but really wanted to fire the clay… So I made some chopstick/spoon rests out of the broken pieces 😊
Next pieces almost ready for bisque firing. These ones now have turtles inscribed on them 😊🐢.
--> Swipe right & you’ll find some little cups & more bowls. I’ve also got some plates on their way!
Friday failures… Not everything turns out well in pottery & there’s lots of failures! Here’s some, but not all of them, as many get destroyed whilst still wet on the wheel.
However it’s all better than not trying at all & if at first you don’t succeed, try & try again 😊
This morning’s finds - a large piece of foam, some glass bottles (which I didn’t collect due to safety) & about 20pcs of small foam, plastic, cigarette butts & a foil wrapper.
Forgot to post these new plates!! I got so much love for the last ones i made for home use, thought I’d make some to sell. One cracked during the making, so there’s 3 available.
They’ll be available tomorrow, at ’s Spring Artisan Market!
📌9am-3pm in Waverton, Sunday 1st September, the first day of spring! I’ll have plenty more things, too! Looking forward to it 😃
For this collection, I dug up some local clay and mixed it with white stoneware—about 15% of the clay is from my local area! My love for the bush runs deep; years ago, I volunteered in bush regeneration and even studied horticulture. So, it felt good to incorporate elements like Grevillea and Gum leaves into these pieces.
I’ve added a touch of green to these designs, capturing the essence of our native flora, and perhaps the start of some Christmas colours.
2 plates. Inspired by my Dad, who likes surfing more than turtles & whales! But I also love the ocean, walking along the beach & admiring all the surfers.
Looking for a special way to celebrate Father's Day this Sunday? Join us for a stroll through the market, featuring over 50 sustainable stalls. From what I've seen, they're all worth checking out!
The venue is beautiful, with wide open spaces and stunning harbor views—perfect for a leisurely wander. Hope to see you there!
Had a fun morning at Mona Vale yesterday 😃☀️, thanks for visiting everyone!! The feedback I receive is always so kind, so I love sharing my art with others.
Good news, I’ll have lots of pieces for the Coal Loader Market next Sunday - it’s 9am-3pm in Waverton, at .
Look out for some new pieces in the next few days 😃😃, I’m off to do some glazing & start some new pieces!!
Wave cups🌊
5 more turtle mugs!!!🐢 Whew, I think that's enough turtles for a while...
Don't forget I'm at Mona Vale Markets tomorrow, Sunday 25th August :). If you want a hand-made piece of ceramics for your own, then come & visit!
Some turtle cups, these are my fave ones out of this lot! 🐢. Baby turtles always make me hopeful - they’re so cute, but so tiny in such a large world.
I've got a bunch of new ceramics to share with you! First up are these whale bowls. I'm really happy with the colors and details. They’re quite time-consuming to make, so there won't be any more for a while... I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
🌊 Whenever I visit the beach or a public space, I make it a habit to pick up three pieces of rubbish. It’s a small act, but it adds up to a big difference! 🌍💙
Plastic pollution is a serious threat to our oceans and wildlife & I’m proud to support . They encourage everyone to take 3 pieces of rubbish with them when they leave any public place. Let’s all do our part to protect our planet!
My Artistic Journey and Passion for the Ocean
As a child, I loved dolphins and beach days. Growing up, I explored many creative paths & discovered watercolour painting along the way. Whilst it seemed like the perfect, eco-friendly choice, I found ceramics to be a more meaningful art form—something you can hold and use.
Moving closer to the coast deepened my connection to the ocean and heightened my awareness of its threats. Learning about issues like plastic pollution and turtles ingesting plastic has fuelled my passion for conservation. 🌊
The ceramics I create are inspired by marine life, with the hope of raising awareness and inspiring others to protect our planet. 🌍
The pics are of my watercolour paintings, the whale was sold at an exhibition!
Sorry guys, I’m sick this week and won’t make my market date on Sunday 🤧🥴😷. I’ll be there on the 25th instead 😃.
Last for this week is 3 bowls, a very kind customer asked me to make soup bowls for her & her family.
These ones got fired twice and came out much better the next time :D The colours changed quite a bit, a little more yellow, the pitting holes are completely gone!
Today is a set of different pieces: 2 round plates, 3 small rectangular platters, and one slightly larger rectangular platter. These are made from darker clay with a white glaze on top, allowing the clay colour to peek through.
These ones have a more rustic, hand-made feel compared to my usual work—thicker clay with an imperfect finish. These ones have a more rustic, hand-made feel compared to my usual work—thicker clay with an imperfect finish. They remind me (and maybe you!) that it's okay not to be perfect all the time and to embrace imperfection.
Today, I’m excited to share these small dishes!
They’re versatile and full of character. I’m using one at home, for melting chocolate and for dipping sauce (they’re dishwasher & microwave safe like most of my pieces).
I was experimenting with a new glaze and am pleased with the light turquoise —it doesn’t turn green (light my usual Norse blue) and looks great at both high-fire and mid-fire! 🎨👍😃
Check them out & let me know how you'd use them!!
Next up, I’ve got some sand-inspired pieces: two cozy mugs, a generous soup bowl, and a wide, shallow bowl.
Walking barefoot on the beach is one of my favourite things, and I wanted to capture that feeling by recreating the soothing sand colours in these pieces. 🏝️👣 ✨
Yesterday’s market in Mona Vale was a blast with so many kind visitors—thanks for your support! 🥰🌟
Here’s a glimpse of the pieces I had on display, each featuring a whale design. I’m excited to share that most have already sold, with just one left!
I've got lots to share with you this week, so stay tuned for more pottery :)

Pieces from the wood kiln - the ash turned them all much darker than I was expecting, but there’s some really cool colours 😃
Pieces:
1, Vase- glazed inside & on the rim, the glaze has run down one side, l the other side got lots of ash & turned dark brown
2 & 3, cups - glazed inside & rim, with a turtle on either side, scraping textures & dark brown stain
4 & 5, cups - glazed inside & rim, turtles & lines carved & glazed light blue. The right one stuck to another piece, so has a small chip 😕
I’ll be at this market on Sunday!! Swipe right to see the location. It’s a beautiful spot to explore & hang out, so come for a drive if you’re looking for something to do. North Sydney Art Prize will be open, too!
