Warringah Day Surgery
Warringah Day Surgery is a privately owned day hospital located in Brookvale on Sydney’s beautiful Northern Beaches.
Our hospital is committed to providing patients and their families with quality, respectful, empathetic, and innovative medical care.
🏥 On World Patient Safety Day, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of every patient who walks through our doors. Patient safety is at the heart ❤️ of everything we do, aligning with our core values of patient focus, respect, collaboration, commitment to excellence, and innovation.
👩⚕️ Patient Focus means we prioritise the needs and safety of our patients in every decision we make. We ensure that our processes, procedures, and care environments are designed to provide the highest level of protection and care.
🤝 Respect for our patients and their families guides us to uphold the dignity and trust they place in us. We respect their right to safe, transparent, and effective care.
🔗 Collaboration is essential in maintaining a culture of safety. Our medical and support teams work together seamlessly, sharing knowledge and supporting each other to prevent errors and continuously improve patient outcomes.
🏅 Our commitment to excellence goes beyond the predictable patient experience and drives us to uphold the highest standards in healthcare. We rigorously follow best practices, continually train our staff, and strive for quality in everything we do to ensure patient safety is never compromised.
💡 Finally, innovation plays a crucial role in enhancing patient safety. We embrace new technologies and approaches to better predict, prevent, and respond to potential safety issues, ensuring our patients receive cutting-edge care in a safe environment.
As we observe World Patient Safety Day, we stand proud of the strides we’ve made and remain dedicated to ensuring that safety remains a cornerstone of our patient care 🌟
Today is a powerful reminder to check in on those around us. As healthcare professionals, we know the importance of being present, listening, and offering support, not only for our patients but also for colleagues and friends who may be facing challenges.
This year’s theme ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day’ reinforces the importance of trust, authenticity, and providing a safe space for these conversations, any day of the year.
Our hospital is taking a moment to listen and support each other, and help create a stronger, more connected healthcare community—because sometimes, a simple question can change everything.

Celebrating World Ophthalmology Day! 👁️
Each year on August 8th, we honour Soviet ophthalmologist Svyatoslav Fyodorov, whose ground-breaking contributions to eye surgery have shaped modern ophthalmology 💚
Today, cataract and glaucoma surgeries are among the most successful procedures worldwide, offering immense benefits particularly to Australians. These surgeries are essential in helping our seniors maintain their independence.
Our hospital 🏥 takes immense pride in the work our ophthalmologists perform. Their complex clinical and surgical skills in preserving and restoring vision make a visible difference in the lives of patients every day.
We sincerely thank 🙏 all ophthalmologists for their dedication to this vital field. Let's celebrate the remarkable advancements in ophthalmology and continue supporting efforts to ensure everyone has access to quality 👁️ eye care.
🚨 It's Time Out July at our Hospital! 🚨
Our facility is 100% committed to providing the highest standards of patient safety.
That's why our hospital team participates in an annual Time Out July event as a safety measure to make sure that our patients receive the proper checks before surgery.
A surgical "time-out" is the surgical team's short pause, just before incision, to run through a safety checklist, confirming that they are performing the correct procedure on the correct body part of the correct patient. Following the correct procedures prior to surgery prevents complications. 🏥✅
This simple exercise brings together our valued Doctors and dedicated operating teams. In recognition of their support, all Doctors participating in Time Out July receive a free round of coffee for their entire theatre team! ☕️
Pictured is Chief Medical Officer Dr Anthony Chambers, supporting TIme Out July 2024 for patient safety! 🌟
This week, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of International Men's Health Week and the focus is on the importance of Men's Health Checks this year.
Our Chief Medical Officer Dr Anthony Chambers is encouraging all men to prioritise their health and wellbeing. Here's how:
✅ Routine health checks 🧑⚕️ They're a simple and effective way to ensure you’re in good health and not experiencing abnormalities that may be linked to more serious conditions.
✅ Know your numbers 🩺 including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and body mass index. It's an effective way to take control of your health and make necessary adjustments.
✅ Commit to healthier lifestyle choices 🥗 This means including regular exercise and a balanced diet.
✅ Be proactive and take advantage of the quality healthcare services you can access locally, or at our hospital 🏥
Follow these simple steps towards enhancing Men’s Health. Together, we can reduce the impact of preventable diseases and enhance the quality of life for all men 🙏
Today, on Employee Appreciation Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our doctors and staff 💙 Your dedication, compassion, and hard work make a real difference in our patients’ lives and the culture of our hospital.
Thank you for your commitment to providing exceptional care and supporting our community and each other. You are the heartbeat of our hospital, and we are fortunate to have such a brilliant team 🏥

🌟 Tomorrow is R U OK? Day, and we're joining the movement to inspire and empower meaningful connections.
We all have a role to play in looking out for those we care about at home and in the workplace. By taking a moment to ask, ‘R U OK?’ we can offer crucial support to someone who might be facing difficulties. This connection and support can make all the difference long before a crisis emerges.
Let's make asking R U OK? a part of our everyday relationships with friends, family, teammates, and colleagues, and remember these four simple steps🤝
1️⃣ Ask R U OK?
2️⃣ Listen
3️⃣ Encourage action
4️⃣ Check-in
You never know how impactful your words can be 💙

Cataract Awareness Month 👁️ is here! It’s a startling fact, cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide, and affects about half of all older Australians, impacting their quality of life.
Luckily, in Australia cataract surgery is the most routinely performed elective surgery and a safe and effective means to restore vision. The surgery removes the cloudy lens protein that causes vision loss, replacing it with an artificial lens implant that is inserted into the eye.
The surgery takes approximately 15 minutes and is carried out as a day procedure by one of our Ophthalmologists, all of whom have extensive professional and academic backgrounds. Serious complications are rare, and the surgery has about a 95% success rate.
If you’re experiencing changes in your vision, book an assessment with your GP or optometrist today. The symptoms to look out for include:
〰️ Frequent changes to your contact lens or eye prescriptions
〰️ Fading or yellowing of colours
〰️ Double vision in a single eye
〰️ Cloudy, blurry or dim vision
〰️ Difficulty seeing at night
〰️ Sensitivity to light and glare
〰️ Need for brighter light for reading and other activities
〰️ Seeing "halos" around lights
It’s all eyes on Australia’s second deadliest cancer this month. Bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week (that’s 5,354 people a year 😢). Yet when detected early, more than 90% of cases can be successfully treated.
Bowel screening is so important, because the cancer often develops without any symptoms. The risk also greatly increases in people over 50 or if you have a 👨👩👧 family history of polyps, Bowel Disease, or Type 2 Diabetes.
This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, prioritise your bowel health, and if you’re at a higher risk or experiencing any of the following issues, see your doctor for further advice:
〰️ Any sign of blood after a bowel motion
〰️ A change in bowel habits, such as straining or diarrhoea
〰️ Abdominal pain or bloating
〰️ Weight loss for no apparent reason, or loss of appetite
〰️ Symptoms of anaemia, including unexplained tiredness, weakness or breathlessness.

When done correctly, hand hygiene is the single most important means of preventing infection and can significantly reduce the cross-transmission of infection in 🏥 hospitals.
We’re proud of our hand hygiene, reporting a high 89.5% compliance rate. 🙋♀️ Never be afraid to ask your nurse if they have washed their hands. Clean hands are a sign of respect for our patients and our wonderful staff providing care.
