The Hefeweizen. It's arguably the most controversial pour outside of the Irish Stout. To the untrained drinker, plonking a fresh Hefe on the bar is usually met with cries of heresy, as "no one wants to pay for a beer with that much head on it".

But trust us, the Hefeweizen's distinctively big, beautiful, soft, fluffy head isn't a mistake, a lousy pour, or the barstaff trying to rip you off... it's actually how the style is meant to be served, the idea being to create a long-lasting, pillowy mouthfeel right down to the bottom of the glass. That way, you can enjoy your last sip just as much as your first. That’s what makes it a Hefeweizen.

Enjoy yours now, fresh off tap and right through Oktoberfest at the BLC Public Bar.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡:
With its flavour predominantly coming from the yeast, Hefeweizens produce strong esters of banana, light phenols of clove, and subtle malt sweetness coming from, you guessed it, the malts. Deliberately low in bitterness, which means the Hefe is balanced towards sweetness, accentuating the yeast and malt character.

ABV: 4.7% | IBU: 12

𝐅𝐮𝐧 (𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬) 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭:
German tradition demands that Hefeweizen be made with 50% wheat malt. It's not like Germans to be demanding, is it.

FRESH OFF THE TENNESSEE GRILL!!! From Caboolture via Nashville and now flying direct to Marrickville (via Mascot), Keith Urban is finally coming home. Introducing 'Riding High', a special one-off gig at The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre on Tuesday 3rd September.

Keith will be joining 100 lucky fans, along with a few 'beer board worthy' draw cards from both Sydney and Betoota, for an intimate evening of music, a deep discussion led by Editor-in-Chief, Clancy Overell, and other important Aussie pastimes – like scoffing prawn toast, entering meat & merch tray raffles, raising money for and, if Keith plays his cards right, etching his name on the 'Who We'd Like to Have a Beer With' honour board.

Entry to the gig is through online ballot only. Hit the link in our bio to enter or visit https://link.fans/ridinhigh

Good luck, mates!

THE OXFORD YARD: In 1954, while on a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford University, a 25 year old Bob Hawke is caught without his gown in the prestigious university’s dining hall. A strict clothing requirement of all students.

His penalty, as dictated by Oxford tradition, was to challenge the presiding ‘sconce master’ in a race to drink a yard (1.4L) of beer. If he loses, he must buy a round for all present.

Knowing he can’t afford to buy a round, Bob drains the yard glass in 11 seconds, not only beating the sconce master, but breaking the world record.

Peak beer.
Peak leisure.
The stuff of legend.

Don’t be fooled by its velvety, cream head, this ale swirls with the kind of mischief that can only come with an Irish Red. Nitro poured, this tumultuous brew draws you in with subtle notes of caramel, biscuit and toffee before slapping you silly with a slap of playful bitterness. Enjoy on cool nights.⁣

While it astounds us that Shane Prawn (the largest golden prawn in the Southern Hemisphere) didn't make the cut, we are delighted to announce that The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre has been listed in Australian Traveller magazine's '100 Aussie Wonders'.
