yes i can shape boards for big waves. ask Jack or Brent Symes. The roll double concave within vee (RDCV) is the best bottom shape for grip and forgiveness in difficult situations. Jack’s board is from a Midget 10’7 which is a lovely blank. 10’ 22” 3 ⅜” 74.3L
David Scott pics at the Rooster ranch. it’s always a little bit too much fun when I visit my inked up mate! thanks for the pics David. You have found some lovely light and composition and thanks for your masterful glassing mate.
Ronnie Goddard single concave stinger pin from between 74 and 78. This board (in for a repair) is so bloody lovely…I have seen many attempts at full concave in the early decades and nearly always it looks like an afterthought or a blind attempt to try something new but without the graduation in depth from nose to tail that this board has. Love the stinger as well. Well done Ronnie.
i keep getting shown old boards of mine with pointy narrow noses, maybe something is pushing me to make the new Taj model! (and of course one of my regular customers specifically asking for it since I had just had a bit of success with the Trent style concave) and no it’s not that I’m gonna be putting his name on the board (even though I still have some taj logos that I might photograph ) but I think I probably have the right to at most mention a style of shape that I provided for a surfer over a period of years (at 30 boards a year) that some people say helped him to have his best surfing of his career. F**k yeah so I’m doing this model and i’ll call it the JaT model (Taj reversed). if anyone thinks it’s a bad idea i’m totally up for hearing why. First 5 will be $200 off. see how stake knife offers like a set of quads or twins at 30% off. oh yeah the other board to pop up was the 2018 dc that sheldon recently ripped on. tearing turns. so crisp. constant rail burying.
I’ve shaped for some very good surfers over the years, and each one has shown me in different ways what happens to a board (and the wave) when it’s pushed hard in tight spaces. Trent likes using a board to send volumes of water off into the upper atmosphere. Here he is on the new Silk model, a clean and simple single concave, that i modified recently primarily for him to test.
quads in at last!

The original Electra….This is where the new Electra Scoop came from. Electra being the space ship and the Scoop being the sea creature. (now the Creature model will be saying “hey come on now, who gave Greg the DC in the first place!”)
Bruce Raymond and his new Sea of Joy Time tunnel model. 73 22 3 ¼” 54.5L Roll double concave bottom on an early 70’ planshape and rocker from several boards ridden in the SOJ movie.
70 pinny pin pin. how couldn’t this go well at snapper or any piping, folding sandbank. you’d be constantly slotted because the board makes you ride the wave that way. i give in! 70 20 ⅝ 3” and don’t forget it has a double concave nose detail, and so that stringer measurement isn’t that indicative of volume
ten customs, just done the night before christmas. thanks Max and Marta from Eye Sym, Marcus from Weapon and back soon to Rhino to do a few magic tints. Keen as to do some more with The Rooster, oh Ok…thanks too to Aido, Sanctum, Sanded, Bernard’s, Xtra, Keyline, Burford, Rhema, and brother William for also seeing the light of the double concave before most others.
Life can be intense at times but when you stop to chat to an old local like Carl then it all winds down.

me in the late 80’s and my two accidental Honda ads.
jimmy on Sea of Joy board number one. shaping the new version with roll double concave later today. (plus a fish.) check how this board fits into the face. you don’t need to stand back on the tail to turn.
there’s nothing amazing about this post. So what… there are three brand logos nicely aligned. Yes Honda make good cars, yes, I hope webber makes good Surfboards, and I am sure that vintage cellars sells great wine and everything else, and it’s Friday afternoon and I just sculled one of those Korean sweet saki wines after half a day of labouring digging trenches for an ag line. The surfboard industry is in a slump after the mad Covid burst. Now there is an oversupply and we need some swell to create the excitement from the ocean that makes surfers want new boards.

Raphael’s new Electra. Slightly lower rocker than the original version for more flow and a broader sweetspot. thanks Marcus for the impeccable glass job.

Electra
Three young ladies I’m helping to shape boards and surf. Giulia from Italy, (black and white pics, thanks Jonas!) Audrey from Straddie, and 5 year old Aira from India who I’m making a much smaller board for. Of course Rooster, Audrey’s dad, is doing most of Aud’s teaching. What fun!
Nick R. A bit over 50 years of age and a bit over 100kgs in weight. And the Diamond Electra says “no problem mate, you can push it!” This one is 8’0” x 22” x 3” and a lovely 58 litres of paddle power. Just enough rocker to fit in and be free off the top. Just enough volume to still paddle very well. Just enough double concave and low soft rails to grip the face, with Webber flexing quads further forward so you hardly have to move your feet. The less you have to move your feet, the more you get in flow with the wave, . Ride the wave not the board.
Test post
After moving over 80 old boards out of two storage units I found some fancy s**t! See who can guess the rocker measures on this super banana 76. One set of the new flexing twins to whoever first gets to within ⅛” either end. Check the old journal for Cheyne and I back in 1976. The prices!
