Dear Friends,

It's time for Young Lions Cafe to come to a close.

Firstly, we would like to show so much love and gratitude to everyone who has supported us these past 5 and half (amazing) years. Everyday, even in the tough times, was a dream come true. All cherished memories.

Thank you to our family and friends who have supported us and helped us from day one. Thank you for believing in us and fostering our young courage.

To our customers, you will be missed the most. You were the reason we enjoyed going to work every day to serve you coffee and good vibes before/during your work day. Thank you for your friendship.

To all who partnered with us in different ways to give to our community, means so much to work with you.

To all our Young Lions Staff, your names are written in our hearts and prayers. You were the heartbeat of Young Lions and of our little community in Blacktown. Thank you for your kindness, good will, and hearts of service. Thank you for pushing through the early cold mornings, the weather and construction conditions, and especially through days during covid lockdowns. You looked after the shop with so much care, happiness and love - and for that we are so grateful.

Our last days will be from Monday, June 26 to Thursday, June 29. Please come and say see you later!

We will be open this Saturday 11am - 2pm and Sunday 8am-1pm to serve coffee and hangout.

Until we meet again, we'll keep striving to do small things with great love ❤️ Raimie and Qwayne

Fam! Did you know that it's World Refugee Week? This week we highlight the strength and courage of the estimated 100 million people around the world who have had to flee their homes 🙏🏽

For many of us in the area, we've come far and wide to be here and call Western Sydney home.

In honour of our brothers and sisters who have left their own homes from across the seas, we would like to support the work of a local organisation working with refugees and people seeking asylum Western Sydney.

Over the weekend, the coffee shop was broken into and we had a number of our items stolen. If you see us using our phones to calculate your orders, you now know why ✌🏽

We are all safe and we are glad noone was hurt.

The team is a little shaken but after talking with one another (with prayers, humour and tears - our coping mechanisms), we all felt a sense of sadness.

We are sad that there's someone out there who felt that there was no other choice than to do this. That they don't feel they have the support or community where they could ask for help or be shown another way.

We have taken a few extra precautions now, with this upgraded camera installed in the shop. We want you to feel safe when you visit us too.

And so, a message - if for any reason you do feel you need help, please ask us. We are willing to offer what we can or point you in the direction of really solid people, businesses and services. We can't get through this pandemic alone. We can't get through life alone.

We believe kindness can overcome situations such as these. Before we restart our usual content, we want to leave with this.

St Mother Teresa said "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other."

Peace of mind. Peace of heart. Peace in community. May we remember that we belong to each other.

After several nights of discussions taking into account government restrictions, with Blacktown considered a LGA hotspot, significant decline in our revenue over July, and finally the safety of the community and our team, we have decided to close until further notice.

We hope to open again in 2 weeks subject to covid trends and government decisions.

This is probably the hardest decision we've had to make as a team but we are trusting that it's part of the process to getting us back serving you in safer circumstances 🙏🏽

We want to say a massive thank you to you, our community: the ones who encourage us to stay hopeful, remind us that we are connected, and inspire us to have faith. Thank you for your support 😭

Please stay safe during these times. We hear you. It's tough. But, so are you ❤

BUT HEY! We intend to keep you company through our socials. We may not see you face to face for a couple of weeks, but we won't give you a chance to miss us too much haha

Anyone watching right now?

After a moving ZOOM meeting with the team, we are so happy to say that we're staying open ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 We are keen to work together to get through this 🙏🏽

It's going to look different again given the restrictions. We've reduced our hours, and have had to shift a few things around - until 9th July.

We want to be there for you, to serve you and to hopefully offer you some essential food and joy to get through the next two weeks.

We'll be making sure we adhere to measures including masks, social distancing and sanitising regularly. We will only offer take away and our tables and chairs will not be set up.

Our Young Lions Cafe shirts, that we released at the end of last year, will be available to buy too! Both designs have been designed by our long time friend of the shop .

Wowow! A generous donor wants to say thanks to all our first responders and SES teams for all their incredible service last week.

Hi Young Lions friends!

You are all incredible, all the work that you do, the people you choose to wake up 5 days a week for, all of your sacrifices and patience/tolerance (haha). If only you could all see yourselves the way I’ve seen you every day I’ve worked here, would you understand how much of an impact you all have had on me and the way I see humanity.
From talking about setting up a gong at the shop for every time someone reaches their freebie on their loyalty card to talking about the struggles of being a parent/student/full-time worker/social worker/artist, our conversations have helped me become who I am today.
In all of your struggle you showed me what perseverance looks like. And I'm going to struggle not being around you all, but I will try to model what you've shown me in this next step in my life :-)

Young Lions team, thank you all so much, so sosososososoSO much haha I really can’t thank you all enough. I will never stop talking about this experience in life.

When we invited Regine to be part of the team to launch Young Lions Cafe, she enthusiastically said Yes and the last 3 years having her on the team has been such a blessing!

This week is Regine's last week with us. She has accepted a full time role at a community office space in the city.

Regine, thank you for your hard work, commitment, kindness, creativity, enthusiasm and all the good times that you've given to YLC and our community.

We're so proud of you and we can't wait to see where you'll go and grow into the future. Always cheering you on 🙏🏽

A Christmas Note from us to you:

Dear family, friends, community

There are no words that will completely express our gratitude.

2020 was a massive curve ball for the whole world. It will be talked about for many years to come. We were forced to shut down and exist under restrictions our generation has never experienced.

Many things were uncertain and we didn't know where we would be Christmas 2020.

But here we are. A little worn out, a little more vulnerable, a little more honest but a whole lot more resilient, determined, grateful and definitely a ton more convicted to keep striving to be courageous in the little things.

Each of you have taught us what it means to hope, to be creative, to see the light and to 'stick together'. Our hearts are full and are humbled by your generosity, support, rawness and friendship over this year. Thank you ❤

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. May the New Year, whatever may happen, bring us all opportunities to keep growing and to keep doing life, together.
