Each group presented a fantastic performance, showcasing the talents and musicality of our students. Bands were adjudicated on technical aspects of musicality, ensemble playing and stylistic understanding of the test pieces.
I'm thrilled to report that the GRC Combined Concert Band were awarded GOLD in their division of Intermediate Secondary Concert Band, competing against much bigger ensembles from some prestigious schools!
The GRC Stage Band were awarded SILVER in the difficult division of Secondary School Open Big Band. When delivering his competition notes to the audience, the adjudicator made special mention of the quality of GRC's vocalists and singled out our instrumental piece Bye Bye Blackbird as being an excellent example of nuanced playing.
Many thanks must go to the team of parents who attended throughout the day to support our students, Assistant Musical Director Mr Tim Payne and Musical Director Angela Pryce for their efforts in preparing the bands.

In a solemn and heartfelt tribute to the heroes of war, Georges River College Peakhurst Campus, observed ANZAC Day with a poignant ceremony, commemorating the sacrifices of those who served and honouring the enduring spirit of courage and mateship. Students and staff gathered in the school hall on Friday, where the school leadership team (Avinash B, Abbie C, Alan T, Dane M, Johnathon M) led the proceedings, with guest speaker Mr Gordon Blair representing South Hurstville RSL. With reverence and respect, students listened attentively as Mr Gordon Blair, a decorated veteran and esteemed member of the community, shared insights into the ANZAC legacy. The ceremony included Prayer of Remembrance, a video created by Avinash B and Johnathan M, that paid tribute to the ANZACs, In Flanders Fields, a symbolic laying of the wreath, The Ode, The Last Post, a minute silence, The Rouse and The Australian National Anthem. The ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who served their country, and a sense of gratitude and reverence filled the air where our school community had gathered to remember them, Lest we Forget.
