In Australia, women make up just 16% of current working engineers. We are proud to have partnered with Engineers Australiaโs diversity and inclusion program to change those statistics.
With Australia in need of more engineers than ever, Greg Kane, CEO, WSP Australia, says that the pursuit of diversity is imperative across the industry.

When starting his career, Neil Ganju, National Digital Engineering Director - Bridges Maritime & Structures, saw a coworker use a Building Information Model (BIM) to do a job in hours that usually took days. From then, he was hooked on learning digital engineering to allow projects to focus on more complex work. His next big challenge is using BIM to track carbon.

Sydneyโs transport network is predominantly above ground: ferries, trains, buses and light rail. So, how do you transition the movement of people to travel underground? Weโre tackling that question with our work on the new Sydney Metro Waterloo integrated station development (WISD).
Comprised of the Waterloo Station and the over station development buildings, WISD is a state significant project changing how Sydneysiders move.
Overcoming the complexities of designing buildings to be constructed over a station has required substantial coordination with the broader tunnel and station systems design teams, to enable integration of the below ground station interface. From a design perspective, customer experience is everything.

Thanks to Jacqui for her work enabling us to support Tiarna and Meg to attend. The future of engineering is bright with enthusiastic and dedicated with students like Tiarna and Meg interested in the field!
International Women in Engineering Day Breakfast run by Engineers Australia was a real treat for two of our Year 11 students, Tiarna and Meg. The girls were sponsored by WSP in Australia Associate Civil Engineer, Jacqui Berry, following their "pay it forward" philosophy. Jacqui sent through the following message:
"Thank you for allowing us to sponsor two of your outstanding students Meg and Tiarna, to attend the recent Women in Engineering Breakfast. Both students were engaging, and made a great impression on everyone they interacted with."
Meg and Tiarna said..."We got to see an insight into the many different fields of engineering available to us and learnt a lot from breakfast. The event was extremely worthwhile and did a great job educating us on our futures and making us feel welcome. We would like to thank Jacqui so much for this opportunity."
Thanks to Curriculum Leader of Science, Mr Chris Smith nominating the girls - such a wonderful opportunity for our students.
Wildlifeโvehicle collisions are a significant threat to biodiversity, a risk to human safety, and cause animal welfare concerns. With rapid advances in remote sensing, machine learning, artificial intelligence and automation, there is significant potential to leverage technology to reduce Australiaโs animal road toll. ๐ฆ
Rodney van der Ree, Technical Executive โ Ecology, shared his global expertise in wildlife-vehicle interactions at a symposium sponsored by Transport for NSW and presented by WSP, the Australasian Network for Ecology and Transportation, and EIANZ - Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. Across the country, numerous programs are underway to remove level crossings, enhancing safety and efficiency in transport corridors for communities. In Queensland, where rapid population growth coincides with preparations for the 2032 Olympics, there is a heightened focus on designing transport infrastructure that meets the needs of communities both now and in the future.
In this article, our rail experts, Yuyu Zhang, Kieran Cook, Jamie Green and Stephanie Malone discuss how removing level crossings in Queensland can create a safer, more efficient and resilient rail network: https://www.wsp.com/en-au/insights/removing-level-crossings-for-resilient-rail-in-queensland
Over the next five years, Australia is on track to see more than $14 billion per year of rail-related construction activity. One factor critical for success, is the project delivery framework. Our team has developed a framework, which utilises aspects of digital engineering, project management and systems engineering as the backbone to project delivery.
WSPโs Senior Systems Engineer Thomas Wagner, who developed this Integrated Systems Delivery framework, and Associate Systems Engineer Curran Dhaliwal, sat down with us to discuss how it works: https://www.wsp.com/en-au/insights/upgrading-the-project-delivery-model-for-complex-rail-projects

Thanks to Gavin Clark, Samantha Morton, Mrunal Patil and Ivana Dawe for the photos!
Built for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, the heritage listed AIA Centre is the only major stadium left standing from the Games and state's only post-tensioned steel building. Having received upgrades through the decades to maintain and preserve its original unique design, the AIA Centre is now home to the Collingwood Football Club and Netball Club.
