Future's Bright for Solar Batteries Rebate for Solar Batteries announced but beware the 'solar cowboys' touting cheap deals on low capacity batteries that might not meet your energy needs.

One question we get asked is "Can broken panels be repaired?" Solar panels themselves cannot typically be repaired. A solar panel is a homogenous, fully sealed unit, other than a minor defect, maybe on the plug, which could be fixed by replacing the plug, there is not much else available to get access to, to fix. All other parts are laminated together, therefore if a solar panel had an issue, it would need a full replacement panel. Every solar panel has minor differences, even if it’s in the same batch of the same brand.

When installing our systems we highly recommend using a SolarEdge Optimiser System. One of the many benefits of the Optimisers are, if a solar panel has to be replaced, because of the optimised SolarEdge system, the panels operate independently and any differences e.g., voltage mismatch won’t impact the overall performance of the solar system.

Year Round Swimming

A pool is a great addition to a home but running the pool filtration and cleaning pumps for hours a day uses a large amount of energy. Changing pumps to energy efficient models will only reduce the energy consumed by so much. Then, on top of that adding an extra pump for an electric Heat Pump can easily double the amount of energy used in a home and dramatically increase costs, unless it is a solar powered pool heat pump! Solar pool heating can really make a difference.

Pools use energy to run and heat but unfortunately electricity from the grid can be expensive and prices continue to rise. An unheated pool in Sydney will significantly reduce the amount of time the pool is used for most families. We believe pools should be heated and ready to swim in for whichever months of the year you want the pool to be used. After all, your pool is an expensive investment and should be used as often as possible.

All year swimming can be achieved but it’s both expensive to set up and expensive to run so your first job is to decide what months you really want to swim. All year swimming may require two large Heat Pumps where a summer only season may just require a single small one. The second decision is what temperature you want the water to be – 28-30 degrees is common. Another consideration is are you going to use a solar pool blanket. They have many benefits but are useless if you don’t use them. You need to be realistic on who will put it on and roll it up when the swimming is done for the day. Once these considerations are decided we can design a pool heating system for you that will give you what you want in terms of water temperature for the desired swimming season.

The Home Battery Rebate is finally here!
The NSW Government recently released some of the details regarding a rebate for home batteries that will be available from 1st November this year. It seems a long way down the track, but orders are filling fast for those who want an installation this year!
The amount of rebate will depend on the size of the battery and a few other factors, but it will fall somewhere between $1,600 - $2,400. This battery will need to be your home's first battery and you will also need a solar system, new or old. If you are installing a new solar system, you will also be eligible for the solar rebate!
Furthermore, if you connect the battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) you can also claim a further $250 - $400!
We highly recommend you install a correctly sized battery for your needs and not waste the rebate on a battery that is too small for your home. 95% of the customers we have assessed over the last 8 years of home battery sales, require a minimum size of 10kWh's, so don't be left short. The cowboys are already out there with bargain undersized batteries so shop smart.

The recently announced government rebate is a great move to make batteries more affordable. Just a quick word of caution. It starts in November but there are already some cheap deals on very low capacity batteries being advertised. While these are tempting they could be a false economy if they are too small for your needs.

The goal with a battery is to get you through the peak and shoulder periods and into the evening, so when it finally goes flat you are consuming off peak power again. If your battery is too small for your energy needs you won’t get the financial benefits you hoped for.
