Spent the final day of 2023 doing simple things that mean the most to me.. church, lunch with family, painting, friends over for dessert & watching fireworks, then ended the evening praying with my family for the year ahead.

I don’t know about you, but my bedroom is my sanctuary. It’s the place that I retreat to after my day, where I can find peace and relaxation for my body and soul. I love to surround myself with things of beauty and things of meaning. The art I choose to surround myself with makes me feel connected. 🤍

This painting ‘Fragrance of my Sacrifice’ was done from a photo of flowers I bought my beautiful Mum. She was in a nursing home for the last few years of her life due to dementia. When her talking became less and less, I always knew flowers would bring a smile to her face. She would take in the flowers, observing the detail on each flower one by one. She seemed to be studying the textures, shapes and colours, giving these flowers far more attention than most of us probably ever would. Another reminder of the awesome power of nature.🤍

When my Mum was in her nursing home with dementia I used to take her flowers pretty regularly. When I was growing up Mum always loved tending her garden. She would pick her roses and arrange them in a vase on the dining table.

Was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Francis Macnab, the former minister of St Michaels Melbourne for 47 years.

Dr Macnab was an internationally renowned public speaker, published more than 25 books and was the founding Executive Director of the Cairnmillar Institute – a unique centre in Australia for the psychological treatment and prevention of emotional and psychological difficulties.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Macnab at the 2016 ‘Compassion’ Exhibition opening at St Michaels gallery where my work was being exhibited. He listened intently as I discussed my art with him and the vision behind the work.

Dr Macnab also had an Order of Australia for his contribution to religion & psychotherapy. Thankyou Dr Macnab for your life’s work to make a difference.

THE STORY BEHIND THE ART ♥️

‘Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.’ Psalm 23:4

This scripture has meant alot to me in my life. We all walk through dark valleys at some point in our lives, but to be walking through the dark valley without fear and a sense of comfort is pretty extraordinary. That kind of peace only comes from God ~ knowing He is with you, has got you, and has gone before you. And it’s the kind of comfort only the Holy Spirit can bring.

Throughout the past 3 years I have walked through quite a few valleys. But, having Him right there walking by my side (carrying me at times) ~ is how I was able to have peace in the storm. This scripture is not just mere words, they are living and breathing Life + Truth, and can be manifest in your life if you let them.

This painting I created is a declaration of this truth. I created it to be a powerful reminder that ‘HE IS WITH YOU’.

Someone asked me the other day why I started painting. For some reason it triggered memories of my Papa and how in his later years began painting.
I began to ponder on what painting means to me.. in my life, and what it must of meant to him. I can only imagine, but I reckon it was a beautiful escape from every day life, and the pressures & worries it brings.

Art is magical and I’m so thankful for it ♥️
