Time to get personal…
I don’t do it often here on our page because I’ve always wanted all The Formal Project Inc is to be about the students, the families and our amazing volunteers but today when I gave a member of the public a quick tour of what our students access when they come for their formal bookings she asked me 2 questions.
I answered at the time with a very quick ‘why not’ and ‘not my choice’ but my heart has been hurting all day at the questions and more so at my responses.
I’m not sure any malice was intended by her questions but they have certainly sat heavy and broken with me all day.

Question 1… Why would you go to all this effort for kids who are getting it for free.
In the moment my response was ‘why not’.

Why I really go to all the effort…. Because the broken child in me needed someone’s effort. The child in me that was passed from one carer to the next, from one refuge to another, between one broken system to another broken system needed someone to give me effort.
I desperately sought the effort from others, I constantly tested that effort and in the end everyone gave up.
People who were supposed to give me something instead gave me daily reminders that I was a pay check, nothing more! I won’t go into specifics on what I survived but I was passed around with garbage bags and metal coat hangers and told I was worth nothing more.
For a very very long time I believed it. My self worth is something I still struggle with as an adult but I’m healing.
So when it comes to students accessing The Formal Project Inc I want them to walk away and feel every bit of love we have poured into them. I want every student to know their worth and if ever they question themselves I want them to think back to our space and know that a whole community put all that effort in just for them!!

Question 2…. Why would you not post photos of them.
In the moment my response was ‘not my choice’.

Why I really don’t post photos of students… Because so many photos were shared of me that never should have been shared. I was never given a choice. I was never asked.
My dignity and self respect was taken from me and it’s something I’m still working to rebuild.
We do give students the option to on their special night but it is their choice, it will always be their choice.

As a very young child before I entered the system I remember one family member who made me feel genuinely loved he passed away when I was young but I remember him telling me ‘always look for the Flutterflys that’s where you will find happiness, that’s where your heart will be full’.
That’s how I look at these students, they fly in one by one, get all dolled up and fly out and in each of them I find a little happiness and heal a little more.

Students I want you to know that you are each worth every minute of effort, don’t ever let anyone make you feel otherwise 🥰

It's that time of the year again when we all get together to celebrate another incredible year and support two amazing charities and Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney
Everyone who has attended in the past has had an amazing time, making new friends, enjoying great food and getting to know a little more about the charities we support and what we have achieved this year.
However, get in quick, because it is less then 8 weeks away...yikes
Also keep an eye out for our Christmas raffle....I'll be seeking out anyone who may be able to provide a voucher for a prize 🙂

To all those that participated in our 2024 NRL Tipping comp. I hope you all enjoyed. To those who won and then Paid It Forward when collecting your meal....thank you.
Our final 2 winners have been decided. Congratulations to Stephen Burns who wins a $100 voucher for correctly tipping the NRL Grand Final winner back in Rnd 1.

Last week I had the privilege of visiting The Formal Project Inc , meeting the founder Sam and other amazing volunteers and having a tour of the back area where they outfit young people for their formals (Inc 2 of my staff in the past two years).
I had headed down there to pick up the two NRL Grand Final tickets I had bid on, which in turn I put out for raffle (to support our Pay It Forward program). A couple of the volunteers even paid me for a PIF meal while I was there ❤️
They also have an amazing thrift shop out front with most clothing selling for a couple of dollars (which all goes to supporting The Formal Project). So if you need some new summer clothing for yourself or the kids, head on down. Took me about 40mins to drive from Blacktown but I also stopped at the Darrel Lea outlet store 😋😋
They also accept donations of clothing to sell and formal wear for the project. One thing they really need is socks (new) for the boys for their formal wear.

Big day of catering today.
Proud to have catered for the Yr 12 Final lunch at Tangara School. Met the most polite and beautiful Yr11 girls who were hosting and so excited for the lunch.
Then back to the kitchen to cook dinner for the 200 residents of . Thanks to my staff who helped with these big orders.
Tough start to the day when I rocked up to work to find Veolia have removed our bins one week early 😡
Thanks to Mehreeen up at Baulkham Hills Radiology who is letting me use her bin until my new company can get bins dropped to me.
And thank you to Angus who popped in this afternoon while we were prepping just to pay for 4 Pay It Forward meals.
For all the crappy people out there, there are real gems ❤️

I remember my grandfather taking me shopping for my formal dress. A Mr K design from Noni B's. I know my mum couldn't have afforded it at the time. That is why I love the charity The Formal Project Inc
One of my staff members got outfitted by them last year and one of my staff has a booking with them next weekend.
So, if you have any formal wear, shoes or jewellery that would be suitable and would like to donate, I can arrange for it to be taken down next weekend. You can drop off to the restaurant this week.
My formal dress sat in my cupboard for 30yrs and I donated it last year and I hope whoever chose it had a night to remember ❤️❤️
