PREFECTS 2023/2024 ll Breast cancer ranks as Australia's second most prevalent cancer, yet its mortality rates has nearly halved in the past three decades. As breast cancer becomes increasingly treatable thanks to the awareness spread by organisations such as McGrath, the daunting treatment journey remains unceasing truth faced by thousands of Australians every year.
This year the 2023/2024 Prefect body initiated the idea to raise money and donate to the McGrath foundation; by asking students to wear pink mufti, selling the Epping burger and play a cricket match students vs teachers. What a great way to end Term 2!

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The name has become the title for a whole week, not just the day. The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders. Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones. A Smoking is an important part of any ceremony and can also be performed as its own ceremony. Usually at the beginning of a ceremony it accompanies a Welcome or Acknowledgement to Country and assists in cleansing the area and the people of bad spirits and to promote the protection and well-being of visitors. For us at Epping Boys High School the Smoking Ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to begin the second semester. 2023 Prefect Induction Video A prized possession has mysteriously disappeared at Epping Boys High School, tasking the prefect body to complete a series of tasks within 48 hours to track down the item. Ordered by the “top dog”, a race against the clock ensues and the hunt begins… The prefect body is proud to present the induction video for 2023! The prefect body is a dedicated group of year 12 students who will be assisting, organising and running many key events around the school. Feel free to approach our group of idealistic role models around the school for any solution to a problem. We are extremely excited to be fully up and running to start 2023, and are ready to represent the student body to the best of our abilities at school and in the wider community. Special thanks to the filming and editing genius of Eddie who went to great lengths for our fantastic final product. Additional gratitude is extended to all members of staff and our teachers who aided, starred or facilitated in the induction video. Kevin Yuanfeng W is to be congratulated on the amazing achievement of being accepted into Bachelor of Medicine Degree at the University of Tasmania for 2023, at the conclusion of Year 11, 2022. He is also awaiting additional offers from the University of Queensland and other universities in January. Working independently, Kevin started studying for British A levels from the beginning of Year 10, 2021, and completed a total of 24 papers for 4 subjects across the last two years. Kevin then completed UCAT and ISAT examinations as part of the additional admission requirement in July this year. He has then completed university interviews over the last month. Kevin was Dux of Year 11, 2022 and has been an outstanding School Prefect, being heavily involved in many Epping Boys High School extracurricular activities. We are in awe of this achievement and wish him all the best over the coming years. Kevin provided the following tips for students: #Go outside your comfort zone and go for opportunities that arise. #Don’t be afraid to consider medicine if it is what you are truly interested in. #Make sure to set small goals and keep on track to tackle difficulties and challenges. #Be organised and learn time management skills

Have you got your tickets for the SRC Movie Night this Friday?! Doors open at 6 pm, for a 6:30 pm start, screening Johnny English Reborn (PG). Come early to play MarioKart on the big screen, pictured here with Mr. Tabrett as reference - epic! Hot popcorn, hot chocolates, and lollies will also be for sale at the SRC Candy Bar. You can buy tickets via the online link emailed to parents or can pay on the night, but please be aware that a permission note must be returned in order to attend.
