Will Skelton Cup - POSTPONED
The Will Skelton Cup that was scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 15 August has been postponed due to wet weather.
All students involved are to attend school as per normal in full school uniform, and with all required equipment for class.
Thank you.
Mr Nelson
It is Public Education Week in Week 3. As well as recognising the achievements of our students and staff, we are also celebrating alumni who benefitted from a public education and went on to find success in their chosen field.
We are celebrating Epping Boys High School alumni, Geoffrey Robertson AO KC, international lawyer and former United Nations judge.
Message from Transport NSW:
From 4 August, we’ll be making changes to bus services as we get ready for Sydney Metro
These bus changes aim to improve connectivity to Sydney Metro services and support integration into the broader public transport network, primarily in Sydney’s North West and North Shore.
Some bus routes in Sydney’s North and North West will have more services, longer operating hours and will soon have improved access to Sydney Metro stations.
While we wait for Sydney Metro, some extra bus services will operate from the North West to help you complete your trip.
The Transport for NSW Trip Planner has been updated and we encourage you to remind your school community to plan ahead at https://transportnsw.info/trip before travelling.
Trip Planner Use the Trip Planner to plan a trip on public transport by metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail, coach or by walking, cycling, taxi or rideshare anywhere in Sydney and NSW, with real-time information where available.
Jono Bailey (PDHPE Teacher) has been in England with the Australian Men's 35s Division Touch Football team competing in the Touch World Cup. They won the Gold Medal Match against New Zealand and have been crowned World Champions. What an achievement. Congratulations!
Michael Tabrett (Music Teacher) and Melissa Kenny (conductor for Senior Vocal Ensemble) recently went to New Zealand to perform at the World Choir Games as part of the Acapella Choir "Soulfood". This choir is an auditioned choir directed by Melissa Kenny and has been running for 20 years. Soulfood were awarded the winners of the Pop Choir section of the competition. Congratulations to both Michael and Melissa.
Congratulations to Harry B from Yr. 7 who won two state championships in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu during the July school holidays.
After winning gold at the Victorian State Championship in May 2024, Harry unfortunately missed the NSW State Championship last month due to illness, but he made up for it during the school holidays winning gold at the Queensland State Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Championship on 13 July and then winning gold at the ACT State Brazilian jiu-jitsu Championship on 20 July.
Harry remains undefeated so far in 2024 for Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (AFBJJ) competitions.
Harry is now training for the AFBJJ Australian National Championship in August and the IFBJJ Pan Pacific Championship later this year. EBHS wishes you all the best!
NAIDOC WEEK 2024//
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The name has become the title for a whole week, not just the day.
The 2024 National NAIDOC Week theme is Keep the Fire Burning.🔥
A Smoking is an important part of any ceremony and can also be performed as its own ceremony. Usually at the beginning of a ceremony it accompanies a Welcome or Acknowledgement to Country and assists in cleansing the area and the people of bad spirits and to promote the protection and well-being of visitors.
For us at Epping Boys High School the Smoking Ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to begin the second semester.
Thank you to all the Fleur Magick & Milan Dhiiyaan, Jayden Beale and Jack Beale.
First Day of School on Tuesday 23 July. We look forward to seeing you all soon 🙂
PREFECTS 2023/2024 ll Breast cancer ranks as Australia's second most prevalent cancer, yet its mortality rates has nearly halved in the past three decades. As breast cancer becomes increasingly treatable thanks to the awareness spread by organisations such as McGrath, the daunting treatment journey remains unceasing truth faced by thousands of Australians every year.
This year the 2023/2024 Prefect body initiated the idea to raise money and donate to the McGrath foundation; by asking students to wear pink m***i, selling the Epping burger and play a cricket match students vs teachers. What a great way to end Term 2!
Well done Prefects!

In 2024, Epping Boys has been invited to compete in the sports high schools rugby program. This program is where the sports high schools in Sydney come together to compete in various formats of Rugby, as they do not have "regular" interschool sport in their respective zones against comprehensive schools. Recently, we played in Round 2 of the Will Skelton Cup at Pittwater Rugby Park.
The Will Skelton Cup is the Sports High Schools Rugby Competition, with an 15 years 10-a-side competition, and an 17 years 12-a-side competition being contested. The EBHS Opens team played in the 17s competition. They played a tough first match against Hills Sports. They were competitive in this match with some moments of brillance, however, Hills proved too strong and took the win. Their second match was against a combined Westfields/Narrabeen team. This match was played in Rugby 7s format due to the limited number of players available in the combined side. As we currently play Rugby 7s in our weekly Zone competition, the boys were well rehearsed and structured, making them a formidable opponent for the sports high hybrid team.
After many tries back and forth, Epping came out on top, taking the win by a try.
A mix of the EBHS 16s and 14s players made up the team that competed in the 15s competition. Despite tough losses in game 1 and 2 to Westfields and Hills Sports High Schools respectively, the boys showed up bigtime in game 3 versus Narrabeen Sports High School and nearly knocked them over! Some of the EBHS stars for the day included Augie R Yr. 9, Denver N Yr. 9, James X Yr. 8 and in particular, our MVP Youjeesoo J, who certainly raised the eye of a number of Sports High School coaches!
There are still two more rounds of the Will Skelton Cup, so we look to build on these efforts moving forward and hopefully be even stronger for round 3.
Mr Nelson, Mr Mathieson & Mr Beale
Last week one of our students, Ivan W, in Year 10 refereed at the School Sport Australia 15 and under Volleyball Championships. He did such a great job that he was awarded the best student referee of the championships.
Across the week Ivan refereed 12 games across the 5 days and 7 of the games went to 5 sets, and took more than 2 hours each, including the Boys Gold medal match last Friday (which went for 2 hours and 25 minutes).
The chief referee and National Sports Organiser for Volleyball said that Ivan has a definite pathway in refereeing and could potentially referee international Volleyball in the future.
Congratulations to Ivan for his great achievement and for receiving his award.
Silver Duke of Edinburgh have successfully completed their Practice Expedition, surviving the cold of Turon National Park, with a smile.
Great work all.
