We're so proud of our 2024 Summer Optik Interns, who recently wrapped up their three-month stint at ProtoSpace with a trade show at Tech Lab. This group dove headfirst into the technical processes of our DIY printers by pushing the bounds of the system, honing slicing controls, and printed a huge gamut of very different models to analyse all that our Ultimaker S5s can do. The end result being a super-beefy, extensive design guide for our UTS 3D printing community! This is now available to UTS users on our DIY Printing SharePoint Page!

Well done team!! You've very tangibly added value to ProtoSpace, and we're so excited for your engineering journey ahead.

Okay, by now you know we have 3D printers but did you know that we also have 3D Scanners?! 😮
The team printed their steering wheel using the X7 printer. This is a dual, fibre filament printer that we have running Carbon Fibre and Onyx, a blended of Nylon and chopped Carbon Fibre.
Drivers used clay to moulds their grips, which were scanned using our desktop Solutionix C500. The data was then manipulated using a mesh editor to prepare the model, creating a fully custom and personalised steering experience for each driver!

This yellow section of Chainmail was made on the F270 FDM printer here at UTS ProtoSpace using Yellow ASA.
Thanks to soluble support material, the part was printed in one go with no post assembly required!! This means that you can get print-in-place assemblies or even encapsulated parts! Complex structures aren't a problem with this amazing method of manufacturing!

COVID-19 Operational Changes

ProtoSpace is still here to support your 3d printing needs!

While things are changing rapidly globally and in Sydney with regards to COVID-19, we’ve mandated social-distancing measures such as cancelling all tours and workshops as per Government and UTS guidelines.

The ProtoSpace team are developing and adapting to these changes by building necessary resources so all users can best understand our 3d printing capabilities and materials, as well as moving interaction between our team and users to online interfaces.

ProtoSpace will continue to accept print jobs! If you have any questions or would like to discuss your project, please email us at [email protected]. Our team will also be on Facebook Messenger to answer any questions or queries.
