We are thrilled to announce that Pre-Professional Full-Time student Sophia has been selected as Finalist for The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition 2024, known as The Fonteyn.

We are so proud of Sophia and wish her the best of luck for the finals tonight.

Over 60 candidates from 13 countries took part in The Fonteyn semi-finals this week, with 12 finalists from five countries making it through to compete in The Fonteyn 2024 final today, Sunday 8 September 2024, at His Majesty’s Theatre in London.

A big Chookas to our Classical Ballet group who have been invited to perform today at Sydney Eisteddfod Dance of Champions at the Concourse Theatre Chatswood.

We wish all performers a wonderful experience for this special event.

Introducing our Special Guest at the Tanya Pearson Academy!

We are thrilled that world-renowned Prima Ballerina Margaret Illmann will be our special guest teacher for our ELITE BALLET MASTER CLASSES 2024 – SEP 29 & 30!

Margaret enjoyed a 21 year career as an international Principal ballerina before obtaining her Bachelor of Physiotherapy to focus on Dance/movement Physiotherapy and Performance coaching.
She began her dance training in the Cecchetti method before joining the Australian Ballet Company (Hon.Dip Dance ABS), then becoming Principal dancer with the Canadian, Stuttgart, Berlin and Vienna Ballet Companies. Principal guesting included New York City Ballet, English National Ballet, La Scala Milan, Hamburg Ballet, Dresden Ballet, Bavarian State Ballet Munich and Zurich, dancing the major repertoire.

Coaches included Makarova, Popa, Dowell, Robbins, Haydee, Grant, Golovine, Schaufuss + Verdi. One highlight was representing Australia and dancing Juliet with the Royal Danish Ballet for the Wedding Gala of Mary Donaldson.

Margaret received a number of honours including South Australian Young Achievers Award and a Pommery Scholarship to study with Paris Opera School. Her varied career included published articles, television appearances and the lead role on Broadway as Victoria Page in The Red Shoes (1994-1995). Here she was awarded The Theatre World Award as Best Actress on Broadway, the Fred Astaire Prize as Best Dancer on Broadway and a New York Drama Desk Nomination. Canadian television made specials about her work, and she was presented with main European Critics’ Awards.
Returning to Australia mid-2005 she coordinated/lectured for the Ballet department (West Australian Academy of the Performing Arts), obtained a degree in Teaching/Assessment and Business/Marketing. She then obtained a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Notre Dame University Perth. Now she focuses in Dance Physiotherapy and is a guest adjudicator and performance coach.

She is a member of APA and Honorary Member of Cecchetti Australia. Margaret enjoys sharing her knowledge with the community of her home in the South - West Western Australia.

Our students are progressing well in their weekly Pas de Deux training session with Victor Zarallo (Former Soloist - Scottish Ballet and Sydney Dance Company).

It is an important aspect of our full-time program at TPA to give students the opportunity to have regular training session and performances in pas deux, learning from very experienced expert teachers.

Congratulations to our students for their performances in the Semi-Finals of the Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Ballet Scholarship today.

Maddi, Nicholas, Renee and Abbie have been selected for this prestigious event out of hundreds of applicants across Australia and New Zealand.

We are very proud of you all for this wonderful achievement!

It was wonderful to see the dedication and passion of the talented dancers attending the Winter Senior workshops!

Our special guest Raffaella Renzi and our esteemed TPA Faculty & Guests generously shared their expertise and knowledge with the dancers giving insightful and inspirational workshops in Ballet, Pointe, Boys Coaching, Contemporary Class, Repertoire, Flamenco, Character and Gyrotonic Method.

Working with international high-profile Principal Artists is an invaluable experience and opportunity for all dancers aspiring to enter the professional ballet industry. The Workshop was an incredible experience for all dancers who attended!

As part of the workshops, 6 scholarships have been awarded to dancers from Int. Foundation and above for prestigious International Ballet Workshops in Italy in 2025, which will announce shortly.

Congratulations to our Adult Ballet dancers who have performed with such passion and joy at our Adult Ballet Showcase last Sunday.

It was wonderful that so many friends and family came to watch the performance event at the Tanya Pearson Arts Centre.

Our Adult Ballet Academy facilitates performance opportunities twice a year for all dancers.
