A popular program that helps low-income Queenslanders living in cyclone-prone coastal communities make older homes stronger and safer has now opened for a fresh phase of funding. The program offers increased grants to assist with cost-of-living pressures.

The fourth phase of the Household Resilience Program is funded through a $20 million commitment from the Australian Government’s flagship Disaster Ready Fund and builds on over $50 million of Queensland Government investment to date.

Cyber Crime Arrest - well done Australian Federal Police

An Australian man and a man based in the US will appear in court, following an international investigation into the creation and sale of a global Remote Access Trojan (RAT).

The RAT was allegedly initially marketed as ‘Firebird’, allowed users to remotely access and control victims’ computer and was sold to thousands of customers, including dozens of Australians.

RATs are one of the most harmful cyber threats in the online environment, once installed onto a device, a RAT can provide criminals with full access to, and control of the device. This could include committing crimes anonymously, watching victims through camera devices, wiping hard drives, or stealing banking details and other sensitive information.

The Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee (RFHBG) is part of the Home Guarantee Scheme (HGS), an Australian Government initiative to support eligible first home buyers purchase a home sooner. It is administered by the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC) on behalf of the Australian Government.

The RFHBG aims to support eligible regional first home buyers to purchase a home in a regional area. From 1 October 2022 – 30 June 2023, 10,000 RFHBG places are available to eligible regional first home buyers.
