The Electric Lens Co.
A boutique studio focused on real-time workflows for virtual production, VR and AR projects.
This is NOT how I want to open up my SACD version of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds The Boatman’s Call.
S**t! Where’s the disc?? All I’ve got left is the CD!
Tonight’s 3D film is “Parasite”
It’s fun to watch and imagine what volumetric cinema is going to be like one day….real soon!
Oh and it’s Demi Moore’s first film.
Don’t give up the game until your heart stops beating.
I setup a second Lounge during COVID and, along with my renewed passion for physical media, have finally finished the last movement of the process - all Xbox’s are together now along with the Analogue Pocket to squeeze into the middle. What a place to appreciate decades of video gaming!
Ask me if I thought I’d be standing in a (full size) volumetric capture rig right here in Sydney. Not mine but University of New South Wales new department. Fascinating…
As the Studio approaches the 9th birthday I reflect on the amazing craftsmanship of Adrian from and the lounge he built for us very early on in both our businesses lives. The warmth it brings to a very technical space is incredible…
Picture is blurry and faded to match my energy. These Threadrippers (I now have 11) and their Quad GPU expansions are the circulatory system of ELC. What was once prided on being liquid cooled now becomes air cooled and I like the simplicity! (Template complete now do the other 10 just the same!)
Hello, yes this is your real life boyfriend. All systems are nominal….How are you?
Look! A Mac enters the Studio! A Mac Studio Ultra no-less. This will serve as the Vision Pro workstation but also Resolve, Nuke and other volumetric activities. Perhaps even some machine learning to stretch its legs…
I’m up to the 3D ending…
A quiet Sunday to address a topic of Physical Media and the imminent shut down of the Digital Xbox 360 Store. I’m quickly scanning through all my 360 games for any last DLC to buy before the ability will shut down forever. It wasn’t like this in the 16-bit era (or even up until 360’s generation) but forever is a long time!!
There’s a certain horror that comes with the segmentation and reconstruction of parts for a, hopefully cohesive, virtual human. I continue to endure…

What a great time it was and special thanks to for holding it together!
Happy Thursday! (says my Coffee Tumbler)
8 years entering the translucent divide between analogue and mixed reality. The morning sun careening through the portals and illuminating the blind visual processors within….I catch this act every now and then and it makes me smile.
.posters never fails to surprise with lovely, random Vinyl. And as things are so random these days, it’s a perfect fit this morning!
Playing historical games (Halo) on original hardware, with self-spawn is quite a thing!
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ?
A live mix of instrumental, synthesiser and 4K HDR LED screening of Bladerunner. Special because it only deepens my love for this piece of art that grows in applicability in time…
As the topic of grows more important to me, I go back to my HD-DVD collection for my usual specificities. Bladerunner with the special Rough Cut, Nine Inch Nails “Beside You in Time” concert and hopefully one for the kids…
End of our first shoot day. Some effervescent reality for a sore body!
Our final preparations for a Virtual Production shoot happening at the studio this week. , , and LOTs of .lighting gear coming together for a really cool workflow that we’ve been working on for a while. Combining near-field matched lighting, shadow interactions and 3D Clean Plates to help bring us into mixed reality film making!
A literal cart load of new GPUs to complete the Threadripper-based processing farm. They join another 16 which have been performing rendering and ML duties for the past while. Now quite a battleship of potential as new ML tools come to bear - my favourite is the Distributed CopyCat training in Nuke 14.1+ mmmm!
Velvet lined scanning of an Australian Icon. Ned Kelly’s armour suit was scanned for a fascinating project coming soon. Thankfully another wonderful collaboration with , and
