Last week was electrifying for our Year 8 Science students! ⚡️👩🔬
Their study of static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator demonstrated the transfer of charge. It was hair-raising at times! Students even performed a little magic (all scientific of course) by lighting a Bunsen burner with built-up charge from their fingers.

Recognising the start of National Reconciliation Week, the school assembly today has began by a beautiful performance by our elective music students.
SCIENCE EXPERIMENT // 🧪 🧬 Why do Mentos create a soft drink fountain? ⛲️ Yesterday our Year 7 students were put to task to find the answers to this interesting question. Their findings?? Contrary to what you might think, it’s NOT a chemical reaction! 🤷♀️ The surface of the mentos tablets have a rough texture (like that of sand) which allows a place for air bubbles to form (nucleation sites). The bubbles form quickly and concurrently creating a fountain as the gas rises quickly. The students had the same results when using sand, proving it’s the texture that causes the fountain, not a chemical reaction with sugar as many people think. 🤔 #learningisfunatstella #science #curiousminds #womeninscience #stellamariscollegemanly #goodsamairtaneducation #strongmindsopenhearts

ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION // 🎖️ Today, our first opportunity to commemorate Anzac Day, our very talented Year 10 musicians, our student trumpeter and bag pipe player set the tone for an incredibly meaningful assembly...you could have heard a pin drop! Year 10 delighted us with the song 'The Green Fields of France', a song that questions the circumstances of Willie McBride’s death and expresses regret that he died so young, never having the chance to fulfil his dreams. It raises broader questions about the human cost of conflict and the enduring impact of war on individuals and communities. It serves as a powerful reminder of the human toll of war and the importance of remembering and honoring those who have sacrificed their lives. During the ceremony a number of students told moving and heartfelt stories of their relatives who are either currently serving in the Australian Defence Forces or have who have served in the past. Afterwards the students were invited to honour their relatives by placing their name along with a sprig of rosemary on the Anzac Honour Board so that the College staff and students could pay their respect and gratitude for their service. #anzacday #thankyou #respect #gratitude #stellamariscollege #strongmindsopenhearts #goodsamaritaneducation

INSPIRING ART CAMP // 🎨 🖼️ Our Yr 11 Visual Arts students and accompanying staff are still full of buzz after their camp to Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s property, which overlook’s the Shoalhaven River, ‘Bundanon’ last week. The group delved into a variety of art practices led by the Bundanon Educators and Stella teachers. This experience is fundamental in offering our Visual Arts students an opportunity to really explore their art practice and is often a foundation for inspiration leading to their major works for the HSC. Apart from the educational benefits the camp offers our students, they also experience a wonderful bonding time together, forming new connections with each other and their teachers in a truly inspiring environment. HARMONY DAY 🧡🧡 // Yesterday the students wore mufti with a splash of orange to recognise and celebrate Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a time to celebrate multiculturalism in Australia and the successful integration of migrants into the community. During assembly we had a number of students and staff tell their story of moving to Australia from other parts of the world and how they were welcomed by the community and feel like they belong here in Australia and at Stella. Belle, one of the Student Leaders said it perfectly: "it is through peoples differences that we can have a rich community." The students were treated to a beautiful rendition of the "Good Days' by SZA, from the Stella musicians. 2024 OPEN EVENING // What a night! The ☀️ was shining, our Stella musicians were playing under our beautiful fig trees, and the families arrived en masse to be led on a campus tour by one of our very enthusiastic Tour Guides to see all the subject displays. It really was the perfect evening.
