Stella Maris College, Manly
The official page of Stella Maris College, Manly, Australia; a Catholic secondary college (Year 7 - 12) for girls in the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition.
Our mission is to educate and empower young people to make a positive difference in their world. Established in 1931, Stella Maris College has grown significantly from its first intake of 33 pupils to approximately one thousand students today, large enough to provide a breadth of learning experiences, yet retaining structures to ensure each girl is recognized, supported and valued.
SPANISH LESSON // 🇪🇸 Gastronomy is a significant aspect of Spanish-speaking countries, where flavours, history, colours, and love are shared on a plate. Today, Year 9 students had the opportunity to sample authentic Mexican street food, experiencing the vibrant culinary culture firsthand. We engaged in a Spanish conversation about various foods, discussing likes and dislikes. This "food lesson" was a great success, with the students showing high levels of enthusiasm and engagement.

BUSINESS STUDIES // 👩💼🍪 There were sweet treats aplenty last Thursday when our Year 11 Business Studies students conducted their own small business stalls.
With offerings like Heavenly Bites, Brookie Bliss, and Mars Bar Munchies, it's no surprise the basketball court was packed with students!
Through engaging in market research, product development, manufacturing, and marketing and sales, our students gained valuable insights into the life of a small business owner.
All proceeds were donated to the Good Samaritan Foundation.
✨
Last week was electrifying for our Year 8 Science students! ⚡️👩🔬
Their study of static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator demonstrated the transfer of charge. It was hair-raising at times! Students even performed a little magic (all scientific of course) by lighting a Bunsen burner with built-up charge from their fingers.

2025 COLLEGE CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED // 📣🌟
Stella Maris College is delighted to introduce our 2025 Student Leaders.
After a rigorous selection process involving a written application, nomination, speech, staff and student voting and interviews, the College Captain for 2025 is…......🥁 ….........Róisín T.
Róisín is particularly humbled to be selected as College Captain and her goal is to ensure that “every girl feels safe and loved, and is supported in taking on new opportunities.”
Our sincere congratulations also to Violette R and Destiny J who will support Róisín in their roles as Vice Captains. Violette and Destiny are integral members of the Stella community, being involved in many facets of college life and they both have big ambitions for their year in leadership at Stella.
Stella Maris College is thrilled to have Róisín, Violette and Destiny lead the College in 2025, inspiring our entire community through their outstanding example.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP // 🌟🌟
Today Sami and Annika of Year 12, represented Stella at a Parliament Youth Leadership program.
This civics and citizenship program offers Year 12 student leaders the opportunity to develop their knowledge of our system of government and parliamentary proceedings, and the role of the Governor of NSW which in turn, helps them to become stronger leaders both within their school environment and as they navigate the broader world beyond. Well done girls!

That’s a wrap for Stella Day 2024. It’s safe to say a LOT of fun was had. Amid the amazing costumes, lip sync battles, food trucks, games and activities, Stella Day holds great significance and purpose for the Stella community. It is a day to celebrate our Good Samaritan identity and it is an important fundraising day to support the work of the Sisters in the indigenous community of Santa Teresa and in Kiribati.
Many thanks to the Student Representative Council and staff for their organisation, and to our own Stella families for your generous support.
More photos and lip sync videos to come once we download them all!

DA VINCI DECATHLON // 🌟👩🔬
The results are in and wow, are they impressive!
Last week 40 Stella students from Years 7-11 competed at the NSW Da Vinci Decathlon. The Decathlon is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon. With over 300 teams competing across the different year groups and across ten disciplines: Engineering, Mathematics, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography and Legacy, the Stella students had their work cut out for them but they rose to the challenge and finished with some fantastic results.
🌟 Year 7: 5th in Cartography
🌟 Year 9: 14th overall
🌟 Year 10: 7th in Art and Poetry
🌟 Year 11: 11th in Engineering
Well done to all participating students within the five teams. This competition is incredibly challenging and mentally tough and they were competing against some of the brightest students in NSW. Well done Stella ✨✨✨✨

This photo was shared by our Assistant Principal Amy Smith today at the school assembly. It captures the same tree, but they are 140 years apart! Can you see how much she has grown?!
Ms Smith raised the importance of acknowledging the land we stand on by evoking us with a question “think about what if the two Morten Bay trees were gone when you come in tomorrow morning?” We are truly lucky to be protected by these two trees every single day, and we can’t imagine to live without them.
At the end of the school assembly, students wrote words of reconciliation on a piece of gum leaf to express their understanding.

CREATIVE ARTS CENTRE SOD TURNING AND BLESSING // 🌟🌟
Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Fr Chima Ofar from St Mary's Manly, Stella Board representatives, Company Members, guests from Good Samaritan Education, some Stella staff and students, ex-Stella students, and construction partners along with project stakeholders to the College for the official sod turning and blessing of the site that is soon to be the new Creative Arts Centre.
This marks a significant milestone in the project with demolition now completed and the site handed over to the construction company to begin the new build and we can't wait to see it emerge over the course of the year.
The staff and students are so excited about the new build - none more so than those from our D&T, Food Tech and Textiles, and Visual Arts departments who will take up residence in the Centre on completion.
It was wonderful to host our "most experienced" past student, Margaret Duffy, whose great-niece Greta in Year 9 also joined us for the occasion and Kane's State Manager, Brett Moore, Site Manager, Dennis Farina and their daughters who are all Stella students.
Let the new build begin!

ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION // 🎖️
Today, our first opportunity to commemorate Anzac Day, our very talented Year 10 musicians, our student trumpeter and bag pipe player set the tone for an incredibly meaningful assembly...you could have heard a pin drop!
Year 10 delighted us with the song 'The Green Fields of France', a song that questions the circumstances of Willie McBride’s death and expresses regret that he died so young, never having the chance to fulfil his dreams. It raises broader questions about the human cost of conflict and the enduring impact of war on individuals and communities. It serves as a powerful reminder of the human toll of war and the importance of remembering and honoring those who have sacrificed their lives.
During the ceremony a number of students told moving and heartfelt stories of their relatives who are either currently serving in the Australian Defence Forces or have who have served in the past.
Afterwards the students were invited to honour their relatives by placing their name along with a sprig of rosemary on the Anzac Honour Board so that the College staff and students could pay their respect and gratitude for their service.
Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mothers and mother figures in the Stella community!
Today we celebrate you and thank you for your support, dedication and love, you all make the world a better place. Enjoy your special day! 💐

DUKE OF EDINBURGH MILESTONE 🏅🌟 //
Hannah M (college Duke of Edinburgh 2023 captain) was presented her gold Duke of Edinburgh award today from Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO KC, Governor of New South Wales at Accor stadium 🙌Completing the gold award takes commitment, resilience, perseverance and a certain amount of ‘pushing yourself out of your comfort zone’ and it can play an important role in helping young people find their purpose, passion and place in the world!
Congratulations to Hannah for making it to the highest level of this award, we are so proud!
🌟
HARMONY DAY 🧡🧡 // Yesterday the students wore m***i with a splash of orange to recognise and celebrate Harmony Day.
Harmony Day is a time to celebrate multiculturalism in Australia and the successful integration of migrants into the community.
During assembly we had a number of students and staff tell their story of moving to Australia from other parts of the world and how they were welcomed by the community and feel like they belong here in Australia and at Stella.
Belle, one of the Student Leaders said it perfectly: "it is through peoples differences that we can have a rich community."
The students were treated to a beautiful rendition of the "Good Days' by SZA, from the Stella musicians. Thank you, such talent!
Best wishes to 2023 graduate Shay Hollman and her Young Matildas team who take on Chinese Taipei tonight (livestreamed from 7.00pm on 10Play) in the Under 20 Women’s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan. Shay starred in the Young Matildas 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Thursday where she was awarded Player of the Match. 💪🏻🥇
The team has almost secured their entry into the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup to be held later this year. We are so proud of Shay who has overcome a serious injury last year to rejoin the Australian team.

Thank you to everyone who supported our inaugural International Women's Day Breakfast at the Manly Golf Club this morning.
