Our Sunday waitlists for Love Strong have been a little crazy -so we're bringing forward the start date of our extra Sunday class to this week!

Love Strong will now run at 7am and 9am. The 7am class is a trial (I'm still not convinced that many people will get up early on a Sunday - so feel free to prove me wrong!) and we will reassess at the end of September!

Just a gentle reminder to turn your phone off or to silent during class. We've had some recent instances of people taking phone calls on their phone and watch in class. We really appreciate you being courteous to our teachers and fellow clients and not taking calls in class except if it's an emergency.

A month ago I asked my 11 year old to film me in the studio - she was mortified -"Mum, you're not going to put your stomach on Instagram are you?". Actually I asked her to film me from behind......

But it's lingered at the back of my mind since - so hello 50 (yep, today is the BIG day), my stomach is going on Instagram! I have always been proud of this body that's grown and birthed 3 kids!!! I've got some stretched, loose skin thanks to the three kids, but I've also been working pretty hard on this body the last 2 months! I want this body to keep me moving and doing what I love, well into old age.

What can you change in 9 weeks? Quite a lot it appears........ I've lost 4kg whilst also adding 2.6kg of muscle, lost 6cm off my hips and my body fat percentage has dropped significantly....... My goal was actually to gain muscle, I wasn't really concerned about my body fat.

How??? I've been loading up on the reformer - training the way we will in our Love Strong classes that start later this month. I've been doing 2 x 30 minute strength sessions a week on the reformer plus my usual Pilates class. I am not training around the clock! Am I on a diet? Nope - I've changed the balance of what I eat as I wasn't eating nearly enough protein to build or maintain muscle (I was getting about half of what I need). I'm still eating cheese and plenty of chocolate...... just less bread and pasta.

So if you're perimenopausal or menopausal and think you can't change your body - you can. Join me in class for Love Strong. Starts July 25 - Thursdays 9:30am, Sunday 9am. Can't make those times and interested in joining us? Comment below.

LOVE STRONG, our new reformer strength classes start July 25!

Why are we doing strength classes?

As we age however, we lose muscle mass and bone bass. According to Dr Andy Galpin, you lose about 1% of muscle every year after age 40 – but equally important to consider, you lose about 2-4% of strength and 8-10% of power.

Women will lose up to 10% off their bone density in the 5 years post menopause. One in two women over 60 will experience a fracture due to osteoporosis according to Healthy Bones Australia.

If you're near/over 40 and or peri/menopausal - strength training needs to be on your radar! The research says we need to "lift heavy". I didn't want to go the gym - so I'm doing my "lift heavy" on the reformer.

You don't have to be "older", you don't have to be peri/menopausal (though it's ideal for you if you are). This class is for you if you want to build strength , muscle mass, bone density and see results. I've been training like this for 8 weeks and I can tell you it will change your body.

Are you getting enough? (exercise that is....)

Do you know the Australian guidelines??? Are you moving enough?

We all know that life gets busy and sometimes we all slip in to bad habits (us included!) and don't move as much as we should. So just a gentle reminder about what we should be doing each week for our bodies.

You'll see that it doesn't always have to be structured exercise classes to get you towards that goal. Walking the dog, playing with the kids or grandkids and gardening can all help you meet your goal.

So where does Pilates fit in the mix?
Pilates is a strength based activity, so will help you meet the strength training guidelines.

What about barre?
Barre ticks the box for strength and physical activity (yep we've seen you sweating up a storm and begging for water breaks!).

This week, the weather is going to be chilly and wet! However, inside the studio, it's warm (especially once you start moving!), so there's absolutely no excuse to skip class!

We understand that it can be more challenging to find motivation during the winter, but it's consistency that's going to get you results 💪

When your kids come to work.... 👩‍👩‍👧

My husband dropped the kids off at the studio on Sunday and while I was happy to go straight home, they wanted to do PILATES! (Miss 4 included!)

Some of you may have heard me talk about girls and sport before- but I'm really passionate about getting kids moving and exercise is so important for their mental and physical health. We all know that exercise can help us get fitter and stronger but it can also help with stress management, body positivity and promoting better sleep - all things kids and teens can benefit from (as well as adults.

Girls start to drop out of sport at 10. It's so young! I want my girls to fall in love with movement and keep moving - whether it's running, dancing, ball sports or Pilates! I don't care what they're doing - as long as it's movement.

And while we're here..... did you know the biggest predictor of whether teen girls exercise is whether mum does...... see you in class ladies!

Just a reminder about how waitlists work 🤸🤸🤸🤸🤸🤸
We know for busy classes many of you are anxiously waiting on a last minute spot......

If you are on a waitlist and a spot becomes available you will automatically be added to the class (up to 2 hours beforehand).

If you no longer want a waitlist spot, it is your responsibility to remove yourself from the waitlist.

Depending on your communication preferences you will receive an email and or a text to say you have been added to class. Regardless of whether you respond to the text, you are now in the class.

If you choose to cancel, our cancellation policy still applies and you will be charged if you cancel within 12 hours of a class or 24 hours of a private session booking.

Our waitlist locks 2 hours before class. If you would like to come to class and haven’t received a notification - we recommend checking on the app if a spot becomes available, so you don't miss out on making it to Pilates class!

If you can no longer make your class, we really appreciate you cancelling so that the teacher knows not to expect you and in busy periods someone who is keen to make class can get a spot.
