Double-glazed windows and doors have two panes of glass instead of one, which can be different thicknesses and different types of glass if needed. Between the two panes is a gap with either air or a specialist gas such as argon. But it’s not simply a case of asking the glazier to put two panes in your normal windows instead of the one. They need to use purpose-made frames to hold the glass.

And with double the amount of glass comes double the weight. So for doors to be made right, they need extra rollers to carry the weight. Shortcutting this step means the few rollers that are there wear out quickly - which means you’ll have to keep dipping into your pocket and paying to get them fixed.

But the best things about double-glazed windows?
☑️ They insulate SO much better than single-glazed. The extreme heat of summer or cold of winter won’t come straight through your windows and make your home uncomfortable; and the heating/cooling you have in your home won’t fly straight out through the windows either. Comfort counts for a lot!
☑️ You’ll save 💲💲💲 on your heating and cooling bill, as you won’t need to use it anywhere near as much. And that is for the life of the home - year after year after year there’ll be less pressure on your wallet (and our environment) for energy to run your home because of the smart choice made at the beginning.
