June is BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and today is Red Apple Day 🍎 an annual giving day to support the work of Bowel Cancer Australia. Following on from Men’s Health Week, we took the opportunity to sit down with our owner, DJ to discuss his experience with Bowel Cancer, the 3rd deadliest cancer in men. This was such an insightful discussion, from identifying his first signs and symptoms and the important role exercise played during and after his diagnosis and treatment. Early detection is key 🔑 and exercise can have such an important positive impact on a patients experience with treatment.

We are back with another mobility Monday move for your thoracic spine! Thread the needle is a great move to create some rotation through your spine while also stretching the chest and shoulder. Starting on all fours, reach one arm towards the ceiling opening your chest to the side wall. Thread the extended arm between your opposite knee and arm, dropping your shoulder towards the floor and feeling the gentle rotational stretch. Repeat 5-6 times on each arm and remember to breath 🌬 #mobilitymonday #threadtheneedle #pilates #yoga #thoracicmobility #moveyourbody #movementismedicine #lowerbackpain #exercisephysiologist
Mobility Monday Here’s a SUPER simple movement for you to help reduce lower back pain and stretch a number of your stabilising muscles through your middle! Lying on the floor, knees bent, let both knees fall to one side while maintaining both shoulder blades flat on the floor. Feel the rotation through your spine and the stretch in to you side body and hip! 🚨 Mobility moves might not be comfortable but they should NOT cause pain! #lowerback #mobilitymonday #moveeveryday #heathyspine #happyspine #exercisephysiology #morethanjustexercise #flexibility
An exercise which targets your glutes, hamstrings, abdominals AND mobilises the spine! Introducing the Pelvic Curl. This simple Pilates exercise gently massages the spine, helps to improve body awareness and develop correct core activation all while promoting mobility in the pelvis and spine! To perform this exercise lay on your back, knees bent with your arms on the floor by your side. For added challenge you can raise your arms to ceiling like Britt. Imagine your spine is a string of pearls and as you exhale, slowly peel one pearl (veterbrae) off the floor at a time. Pause for a moment at the top and inhale before slowly lowering down as you exhale, again one vertebrae at a time. #exercisephysiology #mobilitymonday #pelviccurl #pilates #massage #inhale #exhale #corestrength #movementismedicine
Monday’s back, back again! And so is Lucy with another great mobility exercise to loosen up the spine. Cat cow is a very popular movement which strengthens and stretches the spine, helps improve posture and balance as well as giving your abdominal organs a gentle massage. Starting in a four-point kneeling position, inhale as you lift your sit bones to the ceiling, your eyes and chest forward and let your belly sink towards the floor. Remember to draw your shoulder blades down your back creating space between your ears and shoulders. On your exhale begin to curl the spine lifting it towards the ceiling and looking back towards your thighs. Your spine is designed to move! Jump down now and perform 5-6 rounds of this exercise and we guarantee you’ll feel great and ready to tackle any last minute jobs today 😃 #exercisephysiology #mobilitymonday #catcow #yoga #breath #lowerbackpain #sciatica #movementismedicine
After a simple ear infection spread to the mastoid bone and brain leaving her with right-sided Palsy and associated weakness, this pocket rocket 🚀 first came to us in 2017 as part of her rehabilitation. Chloe began Exercise Physiology sessions with Jess nearly 3 years ago and over the last 18 months has been working really hard - and having a lot of fun - with Britt to improve her strength, balance and coordination. From not being able to stand on one foot for more than half a second, we were all feeling this excited when she managed a near FOUR second balance in her session last week! Chloe continues to go from strength to strength, now mastering bike riding 🚲 and the scooter 🛴 , even performing some neat little jumps tricks. Chloe receives support from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to access our services and it has been a crucial and beneficial part in both her continued childhood development and rehabilitation. If you are an NDIS participant or are searching for some advice in relation to childhood development, give us a call on 6762 3639 and we can discuss how we can help you! #exercisephysiology #paediatrics #childhooddevelopment #rehabilitation #ndis #palsy #balance #strength #coordination #lookathergo #pocketrocket #grossmotorskills #movementismedicine #activekids #exerciserightforkids #tamworthnsw #gunnedahnsw #quirindinsw
Have you been sitting at your desk all day? Starting to feel a little stiff in you back and shoulders? Here’s a couple of simple exercises you can do right now to help mobilise your thoracic spine and open your chest. #1 CACTUS 🌵 Laying comfortably on your back, bring your forearms together over your chest. Tale your fingertips to the floor above your head and slowly open the arms out to a cactus-like position. 🔅 You can intensity the stretch by placing a rolled towel (or even more intense, a foam roller!) lengthways down your spine. Ensure your neck and head are well supported! #exercisephysiology #thoracicmobility #lowerbackpain #mobility #movementisfreedom #exercise #stretch #posture #healthyspine #tamworthnsw #gunnedahnsw #quirindinsw
