Our Name and Logo
"Zenadth Kes" (pronounced zen-ath kes) is a term that was created by the late Mr Ephraim Bani, a Torres Strait Elder and linguist who sought to redefine the European name for the region (the Torres Strait) which was named after the Spanish navigator Luis Vaez de Torres who sailed through the area in 1606. The term ‘Zenadth Kes’ is an amalgamation of Torres Strait language names for the four winds that pass through the region.(1) We have received permission from Uncle Gabriel Bani to use the term in our business name.
Our logo uses the two first letters of this term to make a ZK shape. The colours align with those on the Torres Strait Islander Flag. This flag's design is attributed to the late Bernard Namok of Thursday Island. The flag features a white Dhari (traditional headdress), with a five-pointed white star beneath it. The white five-pointed star symbolises peace and also represents the five distinct language and cultural groups of the region. The deep green stripe represents the land, the black stripe is for the people, and the blue is the colour of our seas. (2)

OUR STORY
Zenadth Kes Physiotherapy opened in January 2023 and is based from Thursday Island (Waibene), in the beautiful Torres Strait Islands.
In starting this mobile physiotherapy service, we identified the need for improved access to physiotherapy and rehabilitation for the local residents, and to provide a private alternative to the public system.
With this new service, locals can receive the benefits of physiotherapy conveniently from the comfort of their own home, and will not have their treatment delayed by a lengthy referral process.
We look forward to serving you and helping you achieve your goals - whether it be to overcome pain, improve your strength, or get back to your normal function at home or at work.
We currently provide services predominantly on Thursday Island. We plan to eventually extend our reach to the inner and outer islands of Zenadth Kes (NDIS only).
