Aluminium is one of the most widely used materials for food packaging. Whether it's instant beverages, canned fish, chocolate, snacks, or frozen foods, aluminium is ideal for wrapping and storing. It preserves quality, is lightweight, and effectively keeps out air and micro-organisms that can lead to food spoilage.

We're pleased to announce that the final recipient of this year's Workplace Giving Fund is Fight for Connar, which has received a generous donation of $16,000 from our Tomago Aluminium employees.

This incredible local charity, founded by neighbours and friends of Connar, supports families of terminally ill children, ensuring they can cherish every precious moment together. Though Connar sadly did not survive, his wish was for leftover funds to help others facing similar challenges.

Our $16,000 donation will support a local boy who is sadly nearing the end of his life. Monica Halliday, Director of Fight for Connar, expressed her heartfelt gratitude: "Please let your team know that this funding has come at a crucial time in supporting this beautiful family so they can focus on building some memories. Thank you so much for supporting our charity."

A huge thank you to all our Workplace Giving members for your generosity and support, and special thanks to operator Darren Dunning for nominating such a worthy cause.

This year, we raised an amazing $144,000 through our Workplace Giving Fund! Of this, $64,000 was distributed among four employee-selected charities: Emma’s Warriors, Dog Rescue Newcastle, Talk2MeBro, and Fight for Connar. We also proudly presented $80,000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

Our Story

Tomago Aluminium is one of Australasia’s largest aluminium smelters and has been operating 24 hours a day since 1983. The company contributes $1.5 billion annually to the Australian economy, of which $800 million is spent locally. The smelter produces 580,000 tonnes of aluminium every year, which is 25% of Australia’s primary aluminium. 90% of the product made at Tomago is exported to the Asia-Pacific region.

Tomago Aluminium is an independently managed joint venture. Joint Venture partners are Rio Tinto Alcan, CSR and Hydro Aluminium. The owners provide raw materials to Tomago that are converted to aluminium at the Tomago plant. The product is supplied back to the owners who then take it to market.

Tomago employs 950 staff (full time equivalent) as well as 190 contractors. Our staff are drawn from a significant geographic area throughout the Hunter Valley and Central Coast travelling from as far as 100km south, 80km north and 50km west of the plant. Ensuring that our people are safe while they are at work is one of the main drivers of our business. Our safety record is impressive, with our most recent milestone 1 million hours without a serious or significant injury on site.
