What do these pics all have in common? Not one was ground back... they had Acid washing.... acid washing is a cheap and nasty incorrect way to prep a slab for epoxy. Acid washing leaves oils, moisture and chemicals in the concrete no matter how thorough the company doing acid washing before laying epoxy says they are.

Why are some epoxy flooring companies more expensive than others? Happy you asked :)

Simply put it.. the CHEAP 🤢 companies acid wash to cut corners and just slap it down and get out to the next job... they don't use grinding equipment to do the job the correct way.. then in 6 months when the epoxy is peeling up because of bad incorrect prep the client has to have it done again..

The EXPENSIVE companies use grinding equipment 😎 to grind down the concrete taking a good layer off the concrete surface which removes ALL oils, chemicals and dirts. Also by removing the surface it brings it back to a raw thirsty state for when epoxy is applied the concrete absorbs the epoxy making it impossible to fail.

When it comes to epoxy flooring CHEAP is exactly what you'll get when you want a CHEAP job...

Avoid any company that does acid washing... ONLY GO WITH COMPANIES THAT GRIND THE CONCRETE.

Avoid companies that do acid washing instead of concrete grinding. Acid washing is nasty and does not prep the concrete the correct way and is inferior to concrete grinding. Why? Because concrete grinding removes a layer of concrete bringing it back to a raw and absorbent state absorbing the epoxy making the epoxy become part of the concrete

Acid washing leaves chemicals in the surface, does not remove a layer of the concrete and also does not remove grime from pockets and holes in the concrete causing moisture to build up making the epoxy lift up and fail. DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU PRIME AFTER ACID WASHING... the end result is the same

Epoxy is only as good as the surface it's bonding to.

Being 2024, it still amazes me that there are people looking to cut corners with their balconies, verandas, warehouses, garages, sheds, shops, pool areas, driveways and outdoor areas by choosing to acid washing instead of grinding the concrete surface...

Acid washing then throwing a primer down is just asking for the product to lift and fail causing all kinds of issues, as acid washing is a nasty, cheap way to prep the concrete. Why? Because is doesn't remove all oils/dirt and contamination from the concrete.. it also doesn't allow for the correct bonding from epoxy to concrete as acid washed concrete doesn't bring the concrete back to a raw state. Companies that acid wash will beg to differ, but honestly, it's lazy, nasty and you're asking for trouble.

Grinding though 💪 is the only correct way to apply epoxy. Yes that means big machines & expensive gear, but this is why you get the professionals in to do the job. A thorough concrete surface grind means the concrete absorbs the epoxy, so your brand new epoxy surface becomes one with the concrete. So a Calypso Flooring Epoxy Floor will stay forever - no bubbling, lifting, peeling, fading or tearing, and certainly not having to pay again to have it removed and redone.

👀Don’t accept a two coat epoxy floor either, 5 coats including your choice of flake colour is industry professional standard to prevent that cheap & nasty failing epoxy coating.

AND we guarantee our work for 10years (we can do that confidently, because we know how to do it right the first time!)😎

How do you tell if a company does acid washing over grinding?? Their quotes will always be 50-60% cheaper than the professionals.

Don't cheap out on your property... the poor man always pays twice. Do it right the first time because you'll have to do it again if you go down the cheap and nasty route. That means the 2nd time around will be EVEN MORE expensive because now the professionals will have to grind off the cheap and nasty acid washed 2 coat systems... you really do get what you pay for.

Just some helpful advice to you home & business owners that are new to the epoxy scene and don't want to get ripped off.

Below are images of stencil-crete that was acid washed and is failing and was only done only 4 months ago!! The exact same effect happens when you acid wash to apply epoxy.... be careful guys with who you choose!
