Jasper Hill have been making wines in Heathcote since 1982, and have forged an enviable reputation for making wines that stand the test of time. A family affair that was founded by Ron & Elva Laughton, and is now run by daughter Emily and husband Nick.
On hand to take us through a stunning line up including some wines from the museum, is Tony Nowell. Tony has been in the wine industry for over 30 years and has been selling Jasper Hill wines since 1995! He's a great mate of ours, a very good laugh and knows as much about these wines as anyone.
We are thrilled to present these stunning wines for the first time at a masterclass, don't miss this opportunity as it won't roll around again any time soon.

New wines on the shelves to tempt you...
2023 Vivra Verra Riesling - Geelong, Vic
This stunning bone dry Riesling comes from a single vineyard in Curlewis, with less than 600 bottles produced. It's the second release from talented winemaker (and beloved bartender) Elise Bonon. Great citrus fruits and real tension on the palate, balance, structure, and energy. Great on its own, or perfect with fish and chips!
2021 Quealy Ribolla Gialla - Mornington Peninsula, Vic
Kevin and Kathleen from Quealy make some of the best skinsy wines going around. This is made with Ribolla Gialla, one of the OG varieties used in orange wines. This wine spent an extraordinary 30 months on skins before being bottled in early 2024. With only three rows of Ribolla Gialla on their Balnarring vineyard, production is tiny so give this a shot before we drink it all!
2022 Alpha Box & Dice 'Blood of Jupiter' Sangiovese - McLaren Vale, SA
This is a banging example of Sangiovese from our brothers at Alpha Box & Dice in McLaren Vale. Full of sour cherries and dusty baking spices, it's mid weight with incredible freshness and lots of verve and energy. Brimming with fleshy fruits, it has nice tannin and impeccable balance. Juicy & good!
2023 Pool Wines 'Mule' Shiraz/Viognier - Geelong, Vic
This single vineyard Shiraz Viognier is made with fruit from Sutherlands Creek in the Moorabool Valley (Geelong). It's certainly unique, with a real lightness and soft, subtle aromatic profile. The Viognier adds a lift and perfume to the wine, and with zero additions of any kind, not even sulphur, it'll make our fans of natty wines pretty happy. Only three barrels produced, get it while you can.
Father's Day is coming up quickly! This year, it coincides with Feed Me Sunday! We'll be taking table bookings for Father's Day and we will always have walk ins available at the bar!
Sunday 1 September is our next Paella day with Feed Me Surf Coast. They will be preparing hot, fresh Paella from 12.30 till 3pm (or sold out), and we'll provide the venue and the drinks! All proceeds from Paella go straight back to this great local charity.

Lots of great new wines on the shelves this week, including one of the best Langhe Nebbiolo's we've seen for some time.
NV Forest-Marie Brut Tradition - Champagne, France
This non vintage brut is equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Fresh with a fine bead and beautiful notes of pear, citrus and shortbread. A dangerously drinkable wine!
2023 Cloudbreak Pinot Gris - Adelaide Hills, SA
Cloudbreak Wines is a new age producer making hand crafted wines from a softly farmed vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. This Gris is juicy and lively with luscious fruit and exotic spice notes. Great value drinking!
2023 Plantagenet 'Three Lions' Chardonnay - Great Southern, WA Plantagenet Wines
Plantagenet planted their first vines back in 1968, but didn't make wine under that name until 1974. They thrive on making great Cabernet and Chardonnay like many in the Great Southern. This Chardonnay is a solid offering for the money. There's a bit of rockmelon upfront and the backbone is well structured with good acidity bracing the fleshy tropical notes. A crowd-pleasing Chardonnay for sure!
2020 Scarpa 'Casascarpa' Barbera D'Asti - Piedmont, Italy
This is Barbera as it should be, soft on tannin but big on acid making it a really refreshing wine while still being pretty serious. From a single vineyard planted in 2005, 380 meters above sea level, it's all red berries and plums with a midweight frame and impeccable balance.
2021 Scarpa 'Bric Du Nota' Langhe Nebbiolo - Piedmont, Italy
This wine ticks all the boxes for Langhe Nebb; it's light enough on its feet while carrying great tannin and acid structure to make it a very serious wine. Fleshy and punchy, great balance, and racy acidity. Tarry with some rose petals and nice terracotta notes.
2022 Epsilon Shiraz - Barossa Valley, SA
Coming from 5 generations of grape growers before them (Kalleske), Epsilon Wines is the work of Aaron and Julie Southern. They produce a handful of Shiraz from their small, Barossa vineyard. This Shiraz is a bright silky wine with classic characters. Plush and deep with some nice supple, soft tannins, it's mid-weight and a real crowd pleaser.
Lots going on this week… some cracking new wines by the glass from this afternoon, live music on Saturday from 7pm and drinks specials from 3pm Sunday to finish off the weekend. Plus we’ll have the Olympics and footy on in the background all weekend!

Some tempting new wines on the shelves this week...
2022 Te Whare Ra 'Toru' (Gewurz/Riesling/Pinot Gris) - Marlborough, NZ
This is a cracking aromatic white blend from an established star of NZs most famous region. Te Whare Ra was planted in 1979, making them one of the oldest producers in Marlborough. This biodynmaically farmed, single vineyard field blend is made up of Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris. It has beautifully fragrant lifted aromatics of lychee, mango and citrus. It's slatey with great minerality running through its spine with perfect balance; a great match for spicy Asian food.
2022 Hugel Pinot Gris - Alsace, France
This Pinot Gris from its spiritual homeland is what the grape should look like, textural and waxy with nice line and length, crunchy acidity and beautifully lifted aromatics. This will take the top billing location on the Gris shelf as our most serious wine in the category. If you've never had real authentic Pinot Gris, give this a shot.
2022 La Purisima 'Estio' - Yecla, Spain
This wine is from a region called Yecla, which has crazy weather swings - up to 39°C in summer and down as low as -10°C in winter. Made with Macabeo, which is also known as Viura in other parts of the country, it's the most planted white grape in Spain. This wine smacks of fresh-cut fruit: pineapple, apple, grapefruit and a white floral top-note plus a creamy open feel, and a tweak of nutty acid.
Happy Birthday to this legend! 🎉😘🥳
Lots going on this weekend!! Open till late Friday and Saturday nights!
Surf Coast Art Matters Chris Aspland Art .roe.barabara
Feed Me Surf Coast
DJ Wobbly (aka Declan Bedford) returns this Saturday night (3 August) from 7pm.
Expect a mix of Vinyl & Digital House music taking inspiration from Rock, Disco & Electronica. Get ready to boogie down at Torquay Wine Store!!
A few new cracking bottles on the shelf for your drinking pleasures:
2022 Abeica Rosado de Garnacha - Rioja, Spain
Rosado is what our Spanish brothers and sisters call Rosé. Styles can vary but the ones I like the best are generally Grenache based (or Garnacha as it's known there), are bone dry and have that classic spine of minerality running through them. This one ticks all those boxes and is a nice change up from Aussie or French.
2022 Naked 'The First' Riesling - Clare Valley, SA
Naked Run is the brain child of Steven Baraglia (winemaker), Jayme Wood (sales guy), and Brad Currie (Viticulturalist). ‘The First’ Riesling was named such as it was the first wine that the trio ever made. It’s from a single vineyard in Sevenhill in the heart of the Clare. It’s picked at night and processed immediately to minimise skin contact, so the juice is pure and clean and super bright. It’s all lemons and limes, with lovely acidity and decent length.
2023 Heartland Vermentino - Langhorne Creek, SA
We’re seeing some good Aussie examples of Vermentino these days. This comes off a 20-year-old vineyard in Langhorne Creek. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer has given this some extended time on lees and really extracted some texture. It’s got this classic sea spray thing, with some green mango and lemon pith. The acid is there but well balanced and the finish is crisp and dry.
2024 Alpha Box & Dice Italian Plastic 'Super Glou' - Langhorne Creek/McLaren Vale, SA
This wine from Alpha Box & Side's side brand is lots of fun, all crunchy and bright with lovely acidity and lively aromatics. It's funky, but clean and one of those wines that's incredibly easy to drink.
2024 Alpha Box & Dice 'Paté' Trousseau - McLaren Vale, SA
For lovers of light reds like Pinot Noir and Gamay, you really need to try Trousseau. This variety hales from the Jura region in France and is a staple there. It tends to ripen early, and makes elegant, savoury wine with a great approachability and alluring mushroom/forest floor character. There's also some nice wild berry notes and sappy tannins making it a great foil for charcuterie. This is the sort of wine we dreamed about sharing with people when we opened the bar!
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August fifty four venues across the Surf Coast Shire Shire will open their doors to the public. Torquay Wine Store is stop #32 on the trail map.
We are lucky to be hosting 2 talented local artists - and .roe.barbara for the weekend. Head on down to check out their work and maybe sneak in a cheeky refreshment 😊
