Congratulations Sebastian - what an honour!!

Pacific Honours Ensemble Program

A huge congratulations to Jorja (Year 11) and Sebastian (Year 12) who have been offered places at the prestigious Pacific Honours Ensemble Program being held in Seattle USA in November.

The Pacific Honours Ensemble Program is jointly hosted by the Young Conservatorium (the pre-tertiary program of Griffith University) and the Western International Band Clinic. PHEP commenced in 2007, a partnership between Western International Band Clinic held in Seattle, Washington, USA annually during November and the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) held in Brisbane annually during September/October. Every year a group of honour band students from WIBC are selected to participate in the SHEP program in Brisbane. These WIBC students are the only U.S. students to be involved in this prestigious honour band event held at Griffith University. Australia is represented at WIBC through honour band students from the Young Conservatorium Wind Orchestra in Brisbane and students from the following SHEP Programs โ€“ North Queensland, Capricornia, Sunshine Coast and Darling Downs.

Jorja and Sebastian will get to work with the finest High School musicians in the USA and work under some of the worldโ€™s finest music educators. We look forward to keeping up to date with how Jorja and Sebastian are preparing as we continue through 2024.

๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถNATIONALS WRAP UP!!!๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ

What a year so far! What an experience we've just had!

Congratulations to B Grade winners Marlborough Brass from New Zealand who took out the competition this weekend!!! It was such a pleasure to be part of this experience with you!

We are proud to say we got fourth place out of all marching bands in the street march and equal second on the entertainment turn. Thanks to our amazing Drum Major Ben Milne for his amazing efforts with us!

While we did not place on stage, we are so proud of this whole experience. Our young members were the first to jump on stage and assist with pack up while waiting for results. The comradeship was second to none all weekend throughout the band. It has been an absolute blast.

Thank you so much to our MD Dr Mark Smith. Your time, effort, patience and dedication is appreciated by us all more than we can express!!!

To our organising committee and head organising honcho Jen Grant.... to coordinate a group this large for travel, accommodation, rehearsals and just getting us around in one piece... THANK YOU!!!!!! That is a giant job that goes largely unseen. It was thought out and executed impressively.

Congratulations also to our incredible soloists! Alec Pastega took out the Open Low Tuba section and competed with confidence and pride in the Champion of Champions section.

Further congratulations are in order for Alyssa Curtis for her 2nd placing in the Junior Baritone and Alex McLaughlin for his 3rd place for Junior Trombone.

Our other soloists were also amazing to listen to. Congratulations to Mark Smith for outstanding efforts in the Open Cornet and Open Flugel, Jason Curtis and Theo Burnett for incredible interpretations of their Euphonium solos and Sebastian Young-Florence for his gorgeous High Tuba performance.

Congratulations to our amazing tuba soloist Alec Pastega for taking out the Open Low Tuba solos at Nationals on Monday!

Alec played with incredible skill and accuracy and we could not be more proud of him.

This win got him a spot in the Open Champion of Champions where he represented himself and Townsville Brass with pride!

At just 17 he has a huge musical future ahead of him.

Congratulations, legend!

This is it!!! The week of Nationals! Only 3 sleeps to go until we get on a plane to Adelaide to represent Townsville, the great city we call home, with pride. We don't take this responsibility lightly, with so much time and effort dedicated to this contest.

Thank you to all of our supporters (whether our families, friends, other community members or wonderful humans supporting our band from afar). You get to a certain point in preparation and realise the true extent of what it took to get this far. The support we have received both in real life and online has been crucial in driving us forward.

There are many more people to thank but their time will come :)

We can't wait to report in Thursday morning from the airport where we will then continue to virtually bring you on this journey.

You know what they say about 'all work and no play'... the TB contingent of P!nk Parade Brassvillian members have had an absolute 'blast' having a distraction from contest music!

Well done on a superb second night of parading! We can't wait to congratulate our members who were involved tomorrow at rehearsal.

And maybe we need to talk about a new proposal for marching hats... ? ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’—

When P!nk comes to town... Townsvillians go all out! Sebastian and Arthur thought it would be very fitting to join forces with other music and dance groups and be part of the action on the P!nk Parade. Enter: Brassvillians!!!

Congrats to Brassvillians founders Sebastian and Arthur and all our members who joined them to paint the town pink.

You can catch them tomorrow evening also as they parade from town to the stadium. We can guarantee they'll be well warmed up for Sundays band rehearsal!
