When it comes to your old retired climbing gear, simply cutting and binning it feels inherently wrong. But what can we do with it? We don’t have a recycling solution in Australia for the majority of this sort of gear, and despite all our best intensions, the creative art project we have planned for the old gear, never really comes into fruition. This is where Send On Upcycling comes in – a small local Meanjin business that breathes new life into retired climbing gear by transforming them into exciting and innovative upcycled products. Tegan skilfully repurposes these materials and offers the revamped gear for purchase through her website.
To learn more or purchase one of her upcycled products, visit the link in our bio.

Member Appreciation: The Mums Gone Climbing group, and founders Nell and Grace 💙
"Hey, my name is Nell and I am the founder of Mums Gone Climbing. Once upon a time in my mid-twenties I was just discovering climbing when I fell pregnant. My climbing community consisted of mostly men, and I didn't know any mothers who climbed. I literally had no role models, so I did what I thought was the right thing and stopped climbing immediately.
Our son was born with a rare genetic syndrome, and motherhood became a series of specialist appointments, therapy sessions, and WTF moments. Five years, and another baby later, I FINALLY stuffed my mama feet back into climbing shoes. It was a pivotal moment.
Climbing seemed like a wonder drug for the challenges of motherhood, and I went on a mission to find other climb mama’s. What I found was a tribe of amazing women. Each with their own story, struggles, limitations, fears.... and every single one had been empowered by climbing.
This is how Mum's Gone Climbing began, and the journey is still unfolding, with Urban supporting us every step of the way. We had our very first local meetup at the UC Newstead gym way back in 2018. Since then, our documentary has travelled the world with film festivals, our podcast has become an incredible resources for mothers who climb, and our crew has spread throughout Australia, to Canada, the US, Europe and the UK. With the dedication of a small group of climbing mums we are continually growing and exploring new ways to help support and inspire our community."
