Riverway parkrun
Every Saturday, FREE, timed, 5km. www.parkrun.com.au/riverway The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once!
Riverway parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 7am from the Riverway Village Green next to Tony Ireland Stadium at Riverway in Townsville. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for all the
We've heard it's good to have light feet when running but maybe this is a little too light. 😆
We love a good jump shot but Saturday's volunteer photographer, Amanda, added some balloons to take this otherwise awesome pic to the next level. 🎈🎈
Happy parkrunday. It's been a while since we've had to run our alt course but the scenery is still the same.
Congratulations to all our runners, walkers and wheelers for starting your weekend out in the best way.
Thanks again to our vollies, for making sure we could have a lovely morning out.
Pics to come.
Anyone else already feeling tired heading into the weekend? 🙋♀️ We could use a marshal and a barcode scanner if you’re looking for a good excuse to take it easier and/or would like to help!
Photo: Flashback to our ‘PJ’s themed’ 6th Birthday in 2019.
This is how we feel about returning after two weeks off.
Usual course, usual time, usual suspects - don't forget your barcode 🦓
Huge thanks to everyone who volunteered before we even had a chance to do a shout out - you kids are the best.
There's still a marshal spot vacant and if someone wants to take some pics as a volunteer photographer we would be grateful.
See you all bright and early tomorrow morning. ☀️
THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!
The bridge is repaired sooner than expected and we are set for a grand return this weekend, 7th September!
Thanks to the quick workers at TCC for fixing the bridge.
Thanks to North Shore parkrun and Aplins Weir parkrun for accommodating all of you while we were out of action.
We will need a few vollies but we'll do a shout out once I have assessed the roster and furiously folded all the vests.
Reminder that we are cancelled tomorrow, 31st August. Please head on over to Aplins or North Shore parkruns in your looking for a Townsville event to join.
A reminder that Riverway parkrun is cancelled this weekend and the following two weekends due to bridge repairs.
Please visit Aplins Weir or North Shore parkruns for a change of scenery or take this opportunity to get up early and head to one our lovely neighbour events at Charters Towers, Palm Creek (Ingham), Plantation (Ayr) or Bowen.
UPCOMING EVENT CANCELLATION:
It's been a long time coming but it's finally arrived... The turtle bridge is getting a makeover.
The current advice is that the bridge will be closed for up to three weeks from the 19th of August. Taking everything into consideration, the decision was made to cancel Riverway parkrun for the duration of the repair work.
This weekend (17th) will be the last parkrun at Riverway for three weeks.
We understand this might upset a few people, however, keep in mind we do not take cancellations lightly and a lot of things were necessary to consider before making the decision. There are two other parkruns in Townsville City with one just a short journey up the river.
We don't have a direct way of contacting everyone who attends Riverway parkrun so we would appreciate if you would share this news with those you know outside social media to avoid anyone missing this news.
See you all tomorrow!
VOLUNTEERS WANTED: We are after two barcode scanners and a tail walker for this weekend’s parkrun. There’s even an option to run and then scan if you’re super speedy. Let us know if you can help.
I thought I could do a cute time-lapse video of all of you but quickly realised I set the video up wrong after the first few runners bolted past. So here's the front of the pack in 'moving picture' format.

Some dodgy pics of awesome people taken from the turtle bridge - more to come
*Edit to clarify that the person typing this post is the person who took the pics. I'm definitely calling out my own photography skills. I realise now that the post is a bit mean without context. 😂 ::Nic
VOLUNTEER CALL OUT
We're chasing a few more heroes to round out our volunteer roster this weekend.
We're looking for:
Timekeeper (SOLD)
Finish Tokens (SOLD)
Barcode Scanner (SOLD)
Marshals x 2 (SOLD - Pending acceptance 😉confirmation)
Pre-event Course Check (SOLD)
UPDATE: Wheelchair found! ❤️
This is a little different request but fellow parkrunners are visiting Townsville in August and are 'wheely' in need of some help. Mick and Jan are in town for the World Multisport Championships in August, however, recently Jan was in an accident that has left her with multiple fractures making getting around very challenging.
Our local superstar, Julia, has reached out to us on behalf of the couple to see if there is anyone in our community who has a folding wheelchair they aren't currently using that Jan will be able to borrow for a few days from August 14th to 25th.
If you can help, please contact Julia at [email protected] 🙏
Another perfect winter morning for a parkrun. Congratulations to all 279 finishers on starting your weekend in the best way.
Huge thank you to all of our volunteers today, Sue BANTING, Nicole BOON, Andrew CARIS, Tricia CHEESEMAN, Skye C, Dale DONOVAN, Beatrix H, Elouise H, Ross JOHNSTON, Barbara LIGHTFOOT, Alison MAGNER, Ann MARKIE, Lucy ROBINSON, Eric SCHAFER, Kim STEVENSON and Karen THURLOW. As always we're extremely grateful for your help and making another event possible.
A gold chain bracelet was handed in this morning. If you have lost one, please get in touch.
It was a sea of red at Riverway yesterday thanks to the visit by ‘Sullivan’ and the Medibank team. A big thank you to our rain-soaked volunteers and our first timers and congratulations to the 22 people who proved the old adage that ‘red goes faster’ by getting PBs.
The drizzly morning didn't deter many of you - thanks to Zsofia, Krystal and the crew for supplying some much needed wet weather protection.
More pics to come from this morning's "Red parkrun".
Exciting news!! The Medibank team are bring SulliVan back to Riverway parkrun for a visit THIS SATURDAY, 29th June! Don't miss out on getting a free health check, a chance to chat to Medibank staff and possibly gaining a freebie or two in the process.
Medibank is a wonderfully supportive partner of parkrun Australia and we're excited to have them visit.
One more sleep until parkrun and one more sleep until this legend makes her debut as a Run Director! Despite only recently convincing her to add Run Directing to her repertoire, Karen has been a Riverway faithful since mid 2015 and already has 107 parkruns and 71 volunteers under her belt. To put that timeframe into perspective, the tiny child in many of these photos just celebrated her 18th birthday!
Congratulations Karen on stepping up to the challenge, even though you’re going to be a total natural. We have our A-team on deck tomorrow to support Karen but please make sure you’re on your best behaviour, particularly during the briefing, and thank her for her efforts… because we’d really like her to come back 😉
Our parkwalkers today took it one step further than matching blue vests… they decided to coordinate their shoes as well. 👯♀️
Thanks for volunteering Andy and Robert!
It was super chilly this morning but kudos to 283 of you for rolling out of bed and lacing up for a quick 5k as well as our ever wonderful volunteers.
Many of you might have noticed Geraldine up next to RD Nelly during the run brief this morning. Geraldine kindly volunteered her services to sign the run briefing for our deaf participants. We are super grateful to Geraldine for making our event more accessible. ❤️
Thanks to Roy Matthews for taking a pic as well.
Do you love being the centre of attention and want to start off our parkrunners/walkers or make them come to you for their all-important finish tokens?* We’re looking for a time keeper and someone to hand out finish tokens this week. Please let us know if you can help.
*Wallflowers are also encouraged to apply. 🌷
Recognise any faces in this blast from the past? We have space for two more marshals to join our volunteer team tomorrow. Please let us know if you can help.
National Volunteer Week sneaking by without my knowledge again. Thanks to Zsofia, Krystal and the lovely Medibank ladies for coming to visit. We appreciate their continued support of parkrun.
Overwhelmingly huge thank you to everyone who volunteers for us at parkrun. As a volunteer run event, we can only get by with each person doing their part to help out and they are made all the more precious when I see the positives that come from an event like this. Not just the physical benefits but the benefit to people's mental health and lives in general. I see people building relationships, making new friends, finding a new activity to do with old friends, there's a community spirit to be found here and I'm grateful to you all. 🙏❤️
