We had our vet visit today - mango’s still very sore in his hip so another 3 months rest before we can do anything but it was unanimous that we all thought he looked stunning! We still have high hopes of him becoming a fancy dressage super star or even as someone’s trophy paddock ornament wouldn’t be so bad!
Pierre has improved heaps! Still a work in progress but some good changes from the last visit!

Finally got all my ducks in a row…..if only for a moment….

12/08/2024

This is a very personal and somewhat difficult post to write but I think it’s important.
Recently I have realised that I have been very much neglecting my own health and well being. So if I want to be around for a while longer than I need to make some hard decisions.
Firstly
1. We are over capacity and can not take anymore animals into care until we find homes for some already in care (hopefully we can get the vet clearance for mango and Pierre and we can get them adopted soon.
2. I will only be responding to messages through the week during business hours.
3. Sundays I will not be contactable and will be putting my phone on do not disturb.
I appreciate everyone’s support and understanding as I embark on my journey to being healthy again.
Picture of the beautiful mango who will be having a vet check next Monday to see if he is sound enough to start work and be put up for adoption or whether he will be just looking for a companion home.

Happy birthday to all the horses! This little one is still cooking but very very active the last few days. It’s cool to see baby foal move around.

We have some exciting news…..who remembers hope our beautiful brumby that arrived at the beginning of the year that Wayne and I personally adopted recently…..well not only did we save hope but we have confirmed she is now heavily pregnant and due soon. She was pregnant when she arrived and managed to carry her baby through all the medications, trauma and injury. We became suspicious she was pregnant and have recently confirmed by Dr Sarah at Equine Vet Services PTY LTD so we decided to do a little photoshoot to announce it.
Thank you Fiona from Majick Moments By Fiona for your amazing skills designing, making and photographing our gorgeous girl!

Meet Mango….
Mango was one of my foster horses for the rspca towards the end of last year. Unfortunately his forever home didn’t work out, no fault of mango’s, just a medical diagnosis for his new owner that meant it was no longer in mango’s best interest to stay. He was the sweetest horse when we initially rehabbed him back to health. We thought we would have no problems finding mango another forever home quickly however, horses will be horses, and while he was being transported to us we got the phone call to advise their was a float accident. Mango, who has floated well previously, decided to have a conniption in the float for whatever reason - thankfully while stationary and dropping off another horse. He certainly did a number on himself and the float. We raced to the property and gave him pain relief and contacted our vet Equine Services PTY LTD who came out first thing the next morning! Forever thankful to Dr Sarah and Jackie who then floated him home that afternoon to our place so we could continue to care for him. (He did well on the float thankfully).
It’s taken a few weeks but his superficial injuries have healed really well. Next step was to get Ali from Ali’s Equine Therapy and Realignment to help realign his pelvis. Hopefully no permanent damage was done and we can get him to the trainers and get him a forever home soon.
We will keep you updated but we are thankful for everyone’s support so we can help horses like mango.

I am back from my little getaway and straight into hosting a vet student for the week. Maddy was lucky to secure a week of placement with me here at the sanctuary where she gets to learn some valuable hands on experience with the animals. All the animals are loving the extra cuddles and pats.

Important!!!!
I will be taking a mini break to visit some dear friends up north who have been so incredibly kind to organise a retreat on Saturday for me. I will be uncontactable from Wednesday (10th July)to Sunday
(14th July)!
I really want to make the most of this break and spend quality time with my friends so I will be turning off my phone as much as possible.
Wayne and Darcy will be looking after all the animals and Helen will be looking after the page for me while I am away so this is my last post until next week!

Some Good news to start the week!
Nova has found her forever family! My heart is full to know this baby girl’s future was only hours from being a very different story! Thank you all who helped with our two Gladstone girls.
To see them both find the most amazing forever homes makes my heart full. ❤️❤️❤️

Happy Sunday everyone! Can’t believe I haven’t posted for a week! We have been super busy here at the sanctuary.
Last weekend Wayne put up another shelter for the horses all by himself, we did a road trip to charters towers to collect some amazing supplements from Karly Stable-Ised Equine (and picked up some local clients orders to bring back for them). Thank you Karly for donating a 5 litre practilax to the sanctuary for the rescue horses!
Some further updates - big Pierre is back still having some hoof issues so we have no option but go down diagnostic pathways.
Thank you Dr Sarah from Equine Vet Services PTY LTD who transported Pierre back to her clinic and did some lameness exams and X-rays. Updates to come about his journey.
I will do some follow ups about our merchandise order this week as it should be here very soon.
Lots more things happening behind the scenes we will hopefully be able to update in the upcoming weeks.

Wishing Nova the best of luck as she leaves today for her two week trial! Fingers crossed she has found her family who can handle her tank of love that is bursting!

We have the best news to start the week off
Daisy is adopted!
What a journey for our beautiful girl! From pound to riches….
It’s moments like these that show us there is good in this world.

17/06/2024

Big P (Pierre) has begun the next stage of his journey/recovery.
I am forever grateful to Rebecca Kakoschke from RK Performance Horse Training & Agistment for taking Pierre on to see if we can get the big boy under saddle again. He is in the best hands and I can’t wait to see how he goes under Becs expertise.

So many people have helped Pierre get this far and I really am grateful for the support. This horse has been let down by humans and now he is being shown love, kindness and care from so many people, and despite his past this boy has remained the sweetest, kindest soul.
We are hoping this will be last piece to his puzzle and can find him the BEST forever home, I haven’t met a horse who deserves it more. ❤️❤️❤️

In honour of hopes adoption, I thought it might be relevant to just take a moment to appreciate how far she has come in our care.

It’s been pretty evident from the beginning that hope and Wayne have a beautiful bond and she has chosen him as her human. So I decided to ask him if he wanted to adopt her and make it official. Fiona from Majick Moments By Fiona came out and we did a photo shoot. I gave him this photo for his bday and his answer was YES…..
So now she is our personal financial responsibility and will join our family and have a safe and forever home here. We couldn’t think of a happier ending for this little brumby.

31/05/2024

If anyone is interested in a meet and greet with Daisy, Nova or Blue we have appointment vacancies tomorrow (Sunday) at the sanctuary in majors creek.
Appointments essential.

Daisy update 5…

So where to now for Daisy?
We believe that this diagnosis does not mean that she can not live a long and happy life, nor does it mean she is any less valuable than she was before her X-rays. So Daisy is still available for adoption…
We are looking for the most amazing home for Daisy - one where she can still be active but also learn to be a snug bug.
One that will accept her for all she is right now and all she will be in the future
One that is prepared to invest in pain relief when and if needed in her future
One who will be prepared to love her wholeheartedly for the rest of her life.
If you tried to tell Daisy right now that she isn’t anatomically perfect she would probably scoff in your face because she is too busy running, having fun, Playing and being the lovely lively Kelpie she is!
So if you think you have room in your life and heart for Daisy, I invite you to come and meet her at the sanctuary this Sunday (by appointment only) or please email your expression of interest to adopt to [email protected] and let us know why you think Daisy will be a good fit for your family.

Thank you for all Wayne’s bday wishes….now back to daisy…. Update 4.

Picking up where we left off, Daisy was showing some very subtle soundness issues. So Liz decided to book her in for X-rays to make an informed decision about whether it would be mild enough to still have a career and be maintained with just physio and strength training.

I have attached the X-rays and vet report here.

Unfortunately both Liz and I were devastated to hear that there was enough of a conformation issue that meant that Daisy would not be able to continue her career in Data collection.

Liz had grown so attached to Daisy and it was a heart breaking decision to no longer proceed with her trial to adopt but it was the best decision for Daisy.

28/05/2024

Wishing the other half of Wyld hearts sanctuary a very happy birthday! Wayne we all love and appreciate you! We could never have saved so many animals with out your support and hard work!
Happy birthday Wayne!

Daisy update part 3

My heart was full getting these amazing updates about Daisy and photos of her on lots of adventures…….
Unfortunately, we then had some updates that threatened to shatter Liz and Daisy’s happy ending together.

Liz wrote….

Daisy is going super, she is doing really well in training and is getting on great with the other dogs here.

Been doing lots of walking and swimming to start building fitness, and had a massage from Lauren (All Body Care) this week just to check overall soundness (she's good, just not very strong, but we'll work on that!).

Daisy is going great training-wise and is an absolute pleasure to have around. However, I am quite concerned about hip dysplasia. She has a very subtle lower back and hindlimb lameness that I initially attributed to a lack of fitness and being a growing puppy. However, it's been ongoing and it's exactly the compensatory pattern we would expect to see with hip problems.

I'd like to have hip x-rays done to confirm and inform decision-making going forward on both our parts

I'm pretty devastated, we love her so much and behaviorally she's everything I could hope for, but I expect she is unlikely to be sound enough to be a working dog in the long run.

Stay tuned for part 4 tomorrow…

Daisy part two

Wayne Darcy and I travelled to Bowen and met Tahlita and Daisy to bring Daisy home. She was even more beautiful in person. She travelled so well in the car and when she got home to our place she just fit right in with our dogs playing and sleeping inside.

Daisy was with us for a couple of days before her meet and greet.

About her potential adopter….

Liz was an experienced kelpie dog owner and dog trainer. Liz runs a business using dogs to scent out different smells for data. They have so many jobs at the moment she was looking for another dog to join the team and Daisy’s adoption ad caught her eye.

Daisy fitted her criteria and Liz fitted our criteria for a home for Daisy. What a great opportunity, thank you universe!

Liz arrived and she met Daisy and we chatted about the trial process being 4 weeks and how during that time we would keep in contact, if things where not working out, Daisy could come back at any time and that the line of communication between us needed to be open and transparent.

Daisy just loves everyone and Liz was no exception. Daisy happily travelled in her car to go home and meet the rest of Liz’s family - she had a few 4 legged friends that looked just like her to play with.

Daisy just fit right in as soon as she got there.

We got amazing updates about Daisy from Liz stating

“It hasn't even been two days with her here, can't believe it, she's been so easy and she's fit right in. She's the most cheerful and enthusiastic dog, we love her so much already.”

My heart swelled knowing how loved Daisy was already and how she was fitting in so well.

Stay tuned for part three tomorrow…..
