Today we farewelled an old friend of the club.
John Finter was a life member of the Apex Club of Townsville.
He will be missed by many.
Rest in peace John.
With the sad news that the Townsville Show has been cancelled, we will not be selling lucky tickets at our show stall this year.
This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the year so it will hurt our efforts to support other charities and community groups.
Apex Australia Bushfire Appeal: Dollar-for-Dollar
Message from National President Michael Godfrey
As the nation tackles one of the worst fire seasons in history, we are saddened to hear of the loss of lives and homes being destroyed. Our hearts go out to all Apexians past and present who have been affected. We thank the many communities that are doing everything they can to assist, day in and day out, with little to no sleep. Many volunteers have given up their income and some have lost their homes while trying to defend others. I would like to pass on my admiration to Members who are not only on the frontline of these fires but also those who are working behind the scenes to ensure that all emergency personnel have food and drinks, as well as those who are assisting families that are displaced by these terrible events. Your hard work and dedication to these communities is simply invaluable and as an Association we are proud of what you are doing. The road to recovery will be long but one thing that can’t be destroyed is the Australian spirit, and rest assured that we will stand beside you, help to rebuild and be there for you when you need us the most.
In response to the bushfire crisis, the Apex Australia National Board has set up a bank account for clubs, members past and present, and community members wishing to donate. Funds raised will be used to support the rebuilding of communities devastated by these tragic events. The Apex Foundation has committed to matching dollar for dollar up to $25,000 for donations made to this appeal.
The Apex Association has a proud history of supporting communities in dire circumstances. From its humble beginnings in the Great Depression to the many natural disasters including Ash Wednesday, Black Saturday, the Queensland Floods as well as the evacuation of Darwin following Cyclone Tracey on Christmas Day 1975, just to name a few, Apexians have shone as a beacon of hope in times of need. Once again, we call upon our remarkable members and communities to support our nation at this time as we look to rebuild after the devastation.
Donations can be made to:
Apex Australia Charitable Fund
Bank: Westpac
BSB: 032-099
ACCOUNT: 138216
All funds will go directly to support families and communities affected by this disaster. Donations are tax deductible.
Keep safe, look out for your mates and we hope for a swift end to these terrible fires.
Thanks in advance for your support.

Happy Birthday to Caleb Vella 🍻
Caleb is a current member, past president and all round trouble maker for the Townsville Apex Club
This year Alex 'Dicko' Dickinson has been aged out of the club. His efforts and contribution to the club have been highly valued and will be missed. Once again he won the The Golden Stirrer Award at this years Handover Dinner. During his time in the Club he has held all board positions apart from Treasurer.
Donnie Harris paid tribute to Dicko’s time in Apex. His speech included many examples of a turbulent year as President. One being the cancellation of the Ewan Races days before the event. Dicko’s legacy to the Club was to help establish and run the Apex/Cure Starts Now Golf Day which continues to this day.
Dicko responded to the Club by saying "Apex has been some of the best days of my life, I have made lifelongfriends who I wouldn't have meet if it wasn't for Apex".
Thanks to Dan Lawson for his leadership as President over the last 12 months. Last night the Club welcomed our new President Ryan Oliver who received Apexian of the Year, Vern Wilkinson Ready willing and able award as well as the Glasgow Almost Memorial Award for most service hours.
Congratulations to Liam Moynihan for New Apexian of the Year.

An idea for a service event.
This photo makes my heart SO happy!! Last night Horan & Bird Energy staff hosted a “Feast With Friends” at Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia 🥰
I have only just recently enquired about hosting one myself, a few friends and I wanted to do it. You go in and cook and help support the families that are staying at Ronald McDonald House! Such a great way for staff to bond, to give back and of course have some fun together! .
If you would love to host one then make contact with the Ronald McDonald House - if you don’t have a enough staff or a big enough group, then make contact with me and you could join us when we host one!! .
Some people wouldn't believe that North Queensland has single digit temperatures. This was the case for the club while parking cars at yesterday Paluma Push.
Well done to Sunrise Rotary Townsville for providing this car which will improve their quality of life.
Another fantastic initiative coordinated by this club.
Thanks to everyone who supported us at the Show

‘I first discovered that I had an interest in helping others in 2008 when I volunteered at a music festival called ‘Easter Fest’ in Toowoomba, selling CDs and books. Up until then, I didn’t realise how much of a buzz I got out of being around so many people, and helping others in the process. However I didn’t join Apex until 2011. I was invited by Tomas Guerin and I decided to go along, not because I really understood what it was all about, but just because I had nothing to lose. I went into it with the attitude that I would just ‘see what happens’ and I ended up becoming a member. The thing that stood out to me during the first service job was that when people spend 8 hours together they develop a deep friendship. That has turned out to be the thing that I enjoy most about Apex; the opportunity to form strong friendships, while helping others who are less fortunate.
Our club is one of the oldest clubs in the Association, chartered in 1940. We have a strong history and follow strict meeting procedure which gives you skills that you wouldn’t get in your normal life. I love that Apex gives you skills that you can take into other areas of life in the future. In addition to my involvement in Apex, I’m also a member of Toastmasters and I’m a committee member on two financial planning industry associations. I have a wife and a daughter who is 18 months old, I love to cook and enjoy road cycling. I like to do landscaping, which is exciting because it is creating something from scratch. I’ve just finished landscaping my garden from an absolute jungle, to a formal manicured garden.’
(To be continued...)
What an amazing effort!!!
Not long until our 1500th meeting at Rydges Townsville. The pictures don't do the renovations justice.
