Most Frequently Asked Laser Hair Removal Questions:

1. Is laser hair removal permanent?
It is a long-term solution to reduce unwanted hair. While it permanently reduces hair growth, some hair follicles that were damaged but not destroyed during treatment may regrow. After ONLY 4-6 treatments, you can expect a marked reduction in hair. Any regrowth will be lighter and less noticeable and can be managed with touch-up treatments every 6 -12 months.

2. Is laser hair removal painful?
Patients can expect a quick “Snap” that is considered more of a mild discomfort than pain. Some areas can be more sensitive, but this is a very mild discomfort. Most clients consider this treatment painless.

3. Will laser hair removal get rid of ingrown hairs?
Yes! Laser hair removal clears away ingrown hairs by destroying the hair follicle and prevents the hair from coiling under.

4. Does laser hair removal work on blonde hair?
Blondes don’t have all the fun. Unfortunately, white, blonde, red, or grey hair do not respond to treatment because there is not enough melanin.
Melanin is the pigment found in skin and hair color. Even if you are not naturally any of those colors, but dye your hair on the outside, the treatment still won’t work.
The laser energy goes below the top layer and affects the stem cells adjacent to the hair shaft. There needs to be color all the way down the hair shaft to attract light and destroy the follicle.

5. Can laser hair removal cause cancer?
No! The treatment doesn’t cause skin cancer. This is another type of radiation that does not cause harm to the skin.

6. How does laser hair removal work?
Light is used to target and destroy hair follicles responsible for hair growth without harming surrounding tissue.

7. How many laser hair removal sessions do I need?

The time between laser hair removal treatments depends on the area you are treating.
Four weeks is recommended between laser hair removal sessions on the face, 4-6 weeks between treatments on the underarms or bikini, and 8-10 weeks between treatments on the legs or back.

What Is a Skin Barrier?

Your skin barrier is the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis) and contains your stratum corneum, which is made of skin cells, lipids, oils and our bodies' natural moisturising factors like amino acids and fatty acids.

Short version of what a skin barrier is:

The skin barrier is the first line of defence between you and the outside world... and the last line of defence for keeping your body hydrated by slowing down water evaporation or transepidermal water loss.

Impaired Skin Barrier.

When your skin barrier is compromised, your skin will feel sensitised.
When your skin is sensitised, things that shouldn't sting do, and you may experience redness, inflammation, uneven texture and dullness.

How to Know If Your Skin Barrier Is Damaged?

Generally speaking, there are seven damaged skin barrier signs to look for:

1. Dehydrated, dry and/or flaky skin.

2. Redness or rosacea flare ups.

3. Rough texture to touch.

4. Stinging, burning, itchiness or sensitivity to things that shouldn't irritate skin (like water).

5. Flare ups of inflammatory skin conditions like acne, eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.

6. Increased oiliness and breakouts.

7. Skin that looks dull, or duller than usual.

Whether you notice one or all of these signs can depend on your skin type.

If you have an oily skin, you might produce more oil. But a damaged dry skin can become rough or flaky.
