Change in business, a new CEO, an acquisition, can send ripples of uncertainty through your team. But the challenge lies in unexpected corners and here are some of the ones we come across that might not be on your radar ... 🌐 Cultural Shifts: With new leadership or acquisitions, company culture evolves. It has to change even with an effective succession plan in place and it’s how you support your people on this that matters. Key people will all react differently some straight away and others a bit further down the track but what’s important here is to check in on your people for longer than you think you need to! 🤝 Trust and Leadership: Employees can feel disconnected if communication about changes lacks transparency or if leaders don’t engage. This can sometimes come from the best intentions but showing vulnerability usually helps here. We don’t always have all the answers but letting your key people know that you will work through stuff together is key. 🧩 Role Identity: Changes might blur the lines of who does what. Clarity on roles and expectations is crucial to maintain confidence, however some changes are inevitable and hard conversations might need to be had with those who are struggling with the changes. This is tough but I don’t know a leader who hasn’t been through it. Call on your leadership toolbox and remember to make sure that the people plan stays on the agenda and probably for up to 2 years after the changes.
