In the beautiful seaside resort of Sopot over the weekend, VENICE MI was in spectacular form with Tom Oben, winning the Senior Mares Section B competition while earning the highest score amongst all senior exhibits (both mares and stallions). In trademark VENICE style, she reminded all those present exactly how an Arabian mare can command the ring, snorting and blowing with her tail over her back, extraordinarily confident and composed while in motion and posed for evaluation.

It is especially rewarding to see VENICE succeed once again Poland, home to so many iconic Arabian mares that have redefined the global standard for decades. Poland is where VENICE achieved her first European Gold Championship back in 2018 with Ryan & Rhodri Jones at AKEAHF, in what would become a prelude to her eventual golden triumph at the All Nations Cup.

We could not be more pleased that VENICE has found such a great home with Obi Training Center and Al Bakhet Stud. We look forward to every amazing moment ahead and welcome every opportunity to showcase VENICE’s classic style and charisma to the international community as a reminder of all the Arabian mare can and should be.

Farewell | OWENDALE LEMON TWIST

One of the most cherished horses at Mulawa was laid to rest on Saturday. OWENDALE LEMON TWIST, beloved throughout the equine community as simply ‘TWISTER’, enjoyed his final afternoon on a wonderfully warm and sunny winter day surrounded by those who loved him most.

Purchased in 2005 for a young Kate Farrell (then 10 years old), TWISTER was already a highly accomplished show horse at the highest level of open competition in Australia at eight years of age. With Kate in the saddle, TWISTER began competing at Arabian events, first as an Arabian Riding Pony, and later as an Arabian Pony, accruing eight Australian National Championships in just two years. In successive years, TWISTER and Kate returned to open competition, winning Show Horse Council Champion Large Hunter Pony Horse of the Year honours. In the pair’s final year of competition in 2010, they were named Champion Large Show Hunter Pony at the Sydney Royal, EFA Champion Large Show Hunter Pony for NSW Horse of the Year, and Runner-up Large Hunter Pony of the Year at the EFA National Championships. Throughout it all, TWISTER became a superlative ambassador for the Arabian Derivative throughout the greater equine community, extolling the virtues of the Arabian breed in the proud ownership of the Farrells.

Upon retirement, TWISTER continued to live a pampered life at both Mulawa & Ambition, serving as a responsible nanny for generations of youngstock and show horses. A beloved fixture of the programme for nearly 18 years, TWISTER never failed to charm everyone who had the privilege of caring for him.

Annette Lowe, who served as intrepid 'show mum' for Kate & TWISTER throughout their years together in the show ring, was also his daily caretaker all through his golden years of retirement. Nettie was the one who made sure that TWISTER never wanted for anything, providing him an impeccable quality of life and an unapologetic 'five diamond' lifestyle no matter the season.

TWISTER's incomparable presence will be immeasurably missed at Mulawa. It remains an immense honour and a privilege for all of us, to have shared in his extraordinary life and to have spent so many unforgettable days with him, from the glory of the winners’ circle to the quiet moments alone at home.

I’m really not sure what words I can write to describe how broken my heart feels not just for myself but for your other mum Katherine, who loved you and spoilt you for the final years of your life from 2014. Your time on this earth left a lasting impression on all who met you, phenomenal show horse, I can’t even remember how many times you were not just a champion but a SUPREME champion and not to mention showing your socks off to be a Supreme of all breeds multiple times not easy to do but even harder to beat breeding stock and do it as a gelding. You also proved that you weren’t just a pretty halter horse but an outstanding saddle horse too proving Arabians really can do it all at the highest of levels and still be an absolute joy to jump on and take for a stroll even if you hadn’t had a saddle on for 2 years.
MAGNATE you were all class, my heart horse and I will be forever thankful to Katherine who I know is absolutely devastated by your loss.

Rest easy our main man and forever snort and blow to let everyone know you have arrived and they are in the presence of greatness. Thankyou for the memories 💙💔

Celebrating the Mulawa Community Worldwide

Part of the magic of Menton is catching up with members of the Mulawa Community we do not get to see as often as we like. Any opportunity to spend time in the company of HRH Prince Abdulmajeed and Fahad AlGhofaily of Akmal Stud is always a privilege.

While the inspiring list of horses in Akmal’s consummate care includes World Champions ANOOD AL NASSER and BAZ AL JASSIMYA as well as perpetual favourite PEPITA, we are immensely proud that three precious Mulawa-bred females call Akmal home. Chief among these is the venerable VENECIA MI (Allegiance MI x Valentine MI by DA Valentino), full sister to multi-international champions VENICE MI and ADVANTAGE MI. Only the second female in breed history to win all three titles of Australian National Gold Champion Yearling Filly, Junior Filly and Senior Mare, VENECIA holds the record of doing so in the shortest possible time frame, winning successive honours at age one, two and four, respectively, with an undefeated show record.
