Everyday Wisdom: Yoga Philosophy in Daily Life

Join Sharon Lea for an insightful lecture on yoga philosophy and Patanjali's 8 limbs of yoga.
Learn how to incorporate these principles into your yoga practice, daily life, and interactions with the world around you. By integrating these principles into daily life, one can achieve greater physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. You will also learn the origin of our beautiful yoga studio's name, Ahimsa.

This is the first of a lecture series from the Ahimsa Hot Yoga Teacher Training.

Carrot Soup 🥕

1 tbsp olive oil

1 large brown onion, halved, chopped

5 large (about 700g) carrots, peeled, chopped

375ml (1 1/2 cups) Massel chicken style liquid stock

60ml (1/4 cup) milk ***can use almond milk here for a fuller finish and nutty flavour.

Salt & freshly ground black pepper

Chopped fresh chives to garnish

Heat the olive oil in a medium sized saucepan over moderate to high heat. Add your onion, cooking until slightly brown and a little caramelized.
*you could add garlic here if you choose*

Add the chopped carrots and cook for a couple of minutes, before adding the stock to the pot. 

Bring to the boil, then simmer until the carrots are tender.  Cool slightly before adding the milk and blending to the desired consistency.

 Pop back onto the heat to warm the soup with the milk added. 

Serve up, garnished with chives, a sprinkle of salt & pepper.   Serve with dinner rolls, naan bread or simply enjoy on its own.  ✨ You kinda need something to clean the bowl to make washing up easier 👌🏽😏

(No chives, no probs. Use parsley or coriander... Something green 💚)

Held in the leafy greens of Samford, 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD, Zen Space Yoga Studio can be found in behind the plant shop in the Lifestyle Centre, 225 Mount Glorious Rd, Samford Valley. This is where your day of caring for the most important person in the world, and that is 'YOU!', begins.

*Being present from 9:30am through to 3:30pm

Breakfast😍🤔👌🏼

Perhaps I have had one of these nourishing pieces of goodness for brekky before. Only because I'm aware of each ingredient contained, pure goodness, and maple syrup for the sweetener.

And I made them myself to share with friends and family, and to have for breakfast 😂

Those of you playing at home may notice a ring in 'shell choc' hiding in the centre. Taking all guesses.👌🏼🤔😍. What flavour hides in the shell ?

Making a difference.... One gathering at a time... We never really know just how much we can change a life by sharing practice and values that ring true...

The last 3 years we've been coming together here in the St Luke's Anglican Church Hall, sharing practice throughout the year, and holding a Christmas Fundraiser class for Families of Domestic Violence.🎄

This December, Saturday the 2nd, we're shaking things up and taking this class over to at Richlands.

'Ahimsa', meaning non-violence from the yoga sutras of Patanjali, an appropriately named place for us to come together this Christmas.🎄 A can be whatever size it needs to be, making life a little easier for those in need.

All profits from this class, aka this yoga go to the families within the Centacare Domestic Violence program, making a difference for their Christmas 🎄

Small gathering of lovers of the practice of yoga, once a month we come together for sharing of class.

This Sunday turns out it'll be Vinyasa we will share, as we meet for the first class back to kick start 2023. ✨✨✨3-4pm✨✨✨
St Luke's Anglican Church Hall, Annerley

Arriving on our mats with no expectations, other than to be present for ourselves, which in turn allows us to be present for those around us.
✨Move, breath, connect and be.✨

Other times we could share in this space, Yin Yoga with singing bowl sound scapes healing our bodies.🎶

We will come together for a full day retreat later in this half of the year, on a date to be confirmed. Music, yoga, breathing, meditation and tasty food... Yes please❤️

We will share practices and time together on Mulgumpin retreat in March this year.

Feel the love from 'inside', where it counts and rings true to you.

✨While the practice on the day pictured was not in the Ashtanga practices, the yogic principals are carried through always.

💚Sealing off our time on the mat today I offered a sharing the Mangala mantra, evoking amazing feelings from within, being chanted after such a physical practice. A peaceful end to practice, sealing in our efforts and offering out to the world.

🕉️A wish for peace , prosperity and happiness to the world. This chant is a dedication to others, offering hope and peace.

❤️I guess that is why it felt so good inside of me, through the sharing and practice of yoga, and watching students evolve in their own time, we shared this space once again.

🎶I'm working on the technicalities of sharing, but for those curious, there are many texts available for more knowledge, or ask me next time we come together for practice.

🍃Three plants🍃
All with different stories of growth and change✨💚✨

🍃✨🍃The first plant pictured is one of my fav home plants. I took it into work to brighten up my desk and it struggled in the environment.. No fresh air, no sunlight, and perhaps a little too much water, as I tried to determine it's needs. Once a thriving plant, turned to sick and almost dead. How could this be?😥. I took it home and it now thrives💚

✨🍃✨The second, in need of a good drink and some sunlight, thriving now with its needs being met, bringing fresh new growth.

✨🍃✨The third, a peace lilly, really struggled in the 40°c heat of a hot room. (I didn't place it there😏). I removed it from that environment, to a new home in a hallway, and before too long, this new growth has begun to shine through.

Why the talk about plants you may ask?
I guess it's because I can draw some similarities between these plants right now and my own life. I've been in some places and around some people who really made me quite unwell, not at all shining or feeling like sharing and embracing all I have to offer this world.

I've had to get really uncomfortable... struggle, be scared, and worried...I've been withdrawn and scared at times to talk or even pick up the phone.

While it's not always possible to remove ourselves from some situations or the pull that some people have on us, we can embrace the positive environments. The practices & the teachings of yoga. Our connection to nature and family ❤️

Never underestimate the importance of a healthy environment. Make subtle changes to your environment, and even with the acknowledgement that change is possible, that positive journey can begin. Shine as we are intended to, just as those three plants have begun shine in their new environment ✨💚✨🍃✨

The dishes are done, the car's unpacked and I've taken the time to read what it is you are grateful for, as I unpack my basket of goodies..🧘‍♀️🙏🏼🥰The practice is high up there👌🏼☺️

Thank you for allowing us to dive into the practices of yoga in a way 60 minutes of class just does not allow... 🕉️ Hold onto your yoga high for as long as you can...

Cup refilled🍳☕🍅

How often do we feel like we're constantly giving, ALL the time.... Well maybe you don't,
but if you're that kind of person, 'a giver,' you can easily overdo the giving and discover that nothing remains in your tank for yourself. I used to be that person... Not any more 😏 Don't get me wrong, I'm still more than generous with sharing my time and talents, but I've found that line of balance.❤️

What relevance is the pic I'm sharing you may ask?🤔. It's my recharge go to meal, taken the time to prepare, and allowed myself time to sit and enjoy.

Food with meaning.. Eggs lovingly hatched and gifted to me (Ty Louise), my fav green for the moment, organic Tuscan kale. Cute lil mushrooms and tomatoes, topped off with a home brewed coffee..

Yoga is a part of everyday life for me, even if I’m not on my mat. Its about a lot more than just a physical practice. It’s how we act and respond to day to day life. I’ve used the practice of different breathing exercises, to help navigate my way through those tricky situations that arise, and look forward to sharing with you all.
