Baby sleep & settling - Responsive settling
Settling in arms, hands-on settling, and verbal reassurance are ways to settle babies responsively. These options give babies comfort while also helping them settle and sleep.

What a day of we had at the library! This year's title was 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker, so Cat and Peter dressed in blue, visited the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens, and read aloud with kids and grown-ups from the Ashmont Community Resource Centre, who enjoyed their own copies of the book. Then it was time to visit the aviary and see a real bowerbird or two and a definitely-not-rubbish nest of blue.

Community Training: Understanding & Reporting Hate Crimes
Tuesday 11th Jun 2024,
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Wagga Wagga Civic Centre: Council Meeting Room
Hate crime not only harms victims, but it also harms their families and entire communities. Hate crimes are unfortunately underreported across the community, particularly from those vulnerable who may not know how to report the incident or who to report it to.
The NSW Police Force is committed to preventing, disrupting, and reducing hate crime and supporting victims and communities. By spreading awareness of what defines a hate crime, we hope more people will come forward and report it to the NSW Police.
Community, service workers, and interested parties are invited to attend a lunch and learn style workshop on understanding and reporting hate crimes.

"After all, culture is family, and family is what the children in the OurSPACE program need."
This National Reconciliation Week, we're sharing how our NSW OurSPACE program honours the cultural and trauma backgrounds of Aboriginal children in out-of-home care through big and small acts of reconciliation. OurSPACE prioritises a culturally safe and strong approach to support – culture is integral to family, and meeting these needs is essential for children in the program.
In OurSPACE, elevating Aboriginal team members' voices alongside children and families fosters trust and empowerment. Integrating cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care has been essential, achieved by amplifying Aboriginal staff voices, facilitating culture-focused meetings, and fostering mutual respect within the team.
Addressing the specific needs of Aboriginal communities has promoted a broader understanding and respect among all team members, enhancing overall wellbeing. Read our blog to learn more: https://professionals.childhood.org.au/.../creating.../

Child car comfort & safety
When kids are comfortable, it’s easier to drive safely. Keep the car cool, take breaks, and manage boredom.
Child car comfort When children are comfortable and happy in the car, it can be easier to drive safely. Keep the car cool, take breaks and manage children’s boredom.
A FREE child car seat safety check is being held in Wagga on Wednesday, June 5, at Bolton Park Carpark. Bookings for the day are essential.
Research has shown that 2 in 3 child car seats are not properly used. A child who is correctly secured in an approved child car seat is less likely to be injured or killed in a car crash than one who is not.
Safety checks will be conducted by a local Authorised Restraint Fitter who has expert knowledge and experience in fitting and adjusting child car seats, harnesses, and booster seats.
For more information about child car seat safety, see www.childcarseats.com.au

How fathers can positively influence their children’s mental health through play
This resource, developed with Emerging Minds, outlines how fathers can influence their children’s mental health through play. It describes types of father-child play and their association with child mental health. It also provides considerations for practitioners who work with fathers and other caregivers to support positive child development and mental health through encouraging father-child play.

Expressions of interest are now open for a training opportunity in early June 2024 for individuals interested in upskilling and possibly becoming a support person for young people (10-17yrs) who come into Police custody.
One of the Short-Term Remand Pilot elements is strengthening the process for individuals to become Support People and, therefore, strengthening the community options available for vulnerable young people who require a support person but do not have anyone available.
This is a critical component of a young person’s experience throughout this process. The pilot’s Support Person Guidelines are attached for your reference.
If you are interested in undertaking this, please reply to this email, and I will send you further confirmation of dates and times for this upcoming opportunity. Additionally, if you have any further questions about the training opportunity, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
