Yesterday we hosted a roundtable with The Hon. Kate Washington MP, Minister for Families and Communities, and Minister for Disability Inclusion and 21 representatives from our organisational members.
Youth Action is grateful to Minister Washington for taking the time to hear from the youth sector. It was a great opportunity for us to talk about the need for a whole of Government response to improve outcomes for young people, especially those in contact with child protection and law and justice systems.
Minister Washington agreed that there is a need for a systemic focus. The Minister reflected on the importance of both early intervention services and targeted supports to address the impacts of trauma that result in many young people doing it tough.
Youth Action will be putting together a brief for the Minister’s office with everything that was shared at the open forums and the Roundtable. We look forward to continuing this important discussion with the Minister.
We would like to thank our incredible representatives of organisational members for joining us for the Roundtable and for highlighting the incredible and diverse work of the youth sector:

That's a wrap for 2023🎁
On behalf of the Visual Dreaming team, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing community and families who have supported our Youth Hub throughout our first year. Your unwavering support and dedication have made a world of difference in the lives of our youth, and we couldn't be more grateful.
From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank you for believing in our mission and being a part of our journey. Your contributions, whether big or small, have helped create a safe and nurturing space for our youth to learn, grow, and thrive.
We want to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas filled with joy, love, and peace. May the warmth of this season bring you closer to your loved ones and fill your hearts with happiness.🤎🤎
Wollundry Dreaming We are thrilled to host Nicho Hynes as a a closed and intimate gathering for our young people that attend the hub and we want to explain the reasons behind this decision. Firstly, by keeping the event small, we can provide a safe and comfortable environment where young people can engage with our special guest on a personal level. This allows for more meaningful interactions, valuable mentorship opportunities, and genuine connections.
Moreover, ensuring the event is closed allows us to prioritize child safety. We have a legal obligation to provide a secure environment for young people, and by keeping the event exclusive, we can control access and closely monitor who attends. This helps us maintain a high standard of safety and ensures that the event is tailored specifically to the needs and well-being of the youth that attend the hub daily.
For any youth between the age of 9 to 12 that would like to come join the hub we will be opening up new enrolments soon for 2024.
How lucky are we to have Greg Inglis and Zac from the Goanna Academy come and spend the afternoon with the hub kids kicking the ball, yarning and sharing all our dreams. Wollundry Dreaming Cheryl Penrith James Ingram Goanna Academy
